October 29, 20223 yr Well the good news is Alvarado didn’t have to work for his three outs tonight. Bad news is I really don’t trust Eflin.
October 29, 20223 yr The moron who didn't know the words to our National Anthem surely has to help the Phillies.

Yeah I’m surprised with Alvarado only throwing 7 pitches that they didnt let him go to gurriel and Mancini (who’s really struggling) even though they are righties.
October 29, 20223 yr My HS coach always obsessed over first pitch strikes. It’s one thing to miss a bit out of the strike zone when you are dancing around a dangerous hitter. I struggled to understand how these guys get behind in the count against the back end of the order.
October 29, 20223 yr Just in general I really hate when managers go so over the top about righty on righty and Lefty on lefty. If your right handed pitcher isn’t a very good then it makes no real difference. The Astros have zero left handers in their bullpen. And yet they are one of the best pens in the league. I think if you have a stud lefty or righty he’s likely great against both. And Alvarado has been that.

He’s been great fielding since about mid May. Stott and bohm have both grown leaps and bounds from where they were in May til now.
October 29, 20223 yr While I agreee it would have been more comfortable to keep Alvarado in, I think it’s more about trying to balance going for the win here and not hamstringing themselves for tomorrow. Don’t want Alvarado’s pitch count to skyrocket then he can’t go again tomorrow. It was a calculated risk.
October 29, 20223 yr 2 minutes ago, Blazehound said: can someone explain why Alvarado was pulled? Eflin continues to look terrible. They were worried that the Astros had four consecutive righties in the lineup. This goes back to what I said a couple post back. If your right hander is going against righty but he’s just isn’t very good and doesn’t have very good stuff that match up really doesn’t make a difference. Alvarado with how great he is pitching is a mismatch whether you’re left-handed or right handed. And he only had seven pitches. I’m guessing it was partially the right handed thing and also the bottom of the lineup which isn’t that good for the Astros that they thought they could get one inning out of eflin doing such. Plus wanting him for tomorrow

Players who have an anxiety-producing deficit in their game and successfully overcome it in the highest pressure situations are the ones you want to keep around. It’s great that he’s been fielding so well in October.

I don’t think he ever is a 30 homerun type hitter but i can see him eventually getting to 20-25 but hitting 280-290 which can make up for some lack of hrs

And if he’s going to be an average fielding 3rd baseman or eventually 1b/DH, he’s going to have to increase the power.

He went from terrible to pretty solid over the course of one season and he’s plenty young. No reason to believe he can’t improve even more.
