Seems like a lot for Robertson

Tbh Robertson saved us a couple times but at his age he was always a risk on back to back days. And in the postseason he was wild and nearly imploded. I could see him just falling off a cliff sometime in the next 2 years.

Yeah, no thanks. Guy was clearly out of gas last year. Couldn’t throw strikes. Don’t see that getting better at age 38.

The irony is that they had a pretty "bad” reputation, especially during the latter years.   A lot of the media, etc were pretty harsh on the "blue away jerseys”.   Amazing how opinions can change over the course of a couple of decades.

I am concerned about putting a 20 year old flame thrower in the regular April rotation and then asking him to make starts in October.

It makes me worry about the quality of those October starts and his TJ risk.

May be controversial, but I’d start his year a couple months late, get him a few starts in Lehigh, and then bring him up to the big club comfortably after the All Star break.  Then, come playoff time, you’ve got a kid with elite stuff that hitters haven’t seen.

Similar thoughts.  Keep his workload relatively light in AA or AAA (No less than 5 days rest between starts, 4-6 innings max, lower pitch count etc)   Then bring him up as a mid-season call up if he looks good.

Just realized the real impact of Justin Verlander on the Mets.

Kate Upton is going to have way more opportunities to flick off Phillies fans

The thing is, he isn't a "flamethrower"

He has advanced control and 2 plus secondary pitches.

Even though he throws 99-100, he doesn't have a violent delivery and has enough pitches in his arsenel that he doesn't have to over-rely on his 4 seam fastball

He's 6'7" with great mechanics and an effortless delivery.  That's why Dombrowski and Thomson said he's ahead of Abel and McGarry.

Just noticed the thread title change. LMAO. Awesome.

Was that you, Procus??

That trade is bizarre

I dont follow closely enough. Explain to me how this team who struggled with pitching for a few years now loses Syndergaard, Eflin, and Robertson, and is getting better.

I know about Trae Turner signing. Im talking about pitching. How are they going to fix pitching while they are losing guys?

Are the being replaced with better? I think I saw 1 picther sign. And 3 leave. Is that right?

They signed Tijuan Walker who was an All Star in 2020 and had a good year with the Mets last season.

They also have the #1 Pitching Prospect in baseball who probably break camp with the team.

They signed Matt Strahm to replace Brad Hand and will probably make a few more veteran bullpen signings or trades.

Robertson... is 38.... and his first stint here was like throwing $$$ out a window. Clock is ticking on his final pitch

Elfin....... bad knees.... been injured a lot. He got a ton of cash for a spotty record. Decent #4 at best due to these issues.

Thor..... he may rebound but he was mostly a flame thrower....... he's now having to learn how to pitch.

The 1st mentioned was a pen arm..... and the last 2 were used pretty much the same way by post season due to health and durability issues they had.

As mentioned above...... we have some talented arms on the way in Painter, Able, and McGarry.....one unexpected arrival was in Falter...... he didn't do well in the post season but should be more mature and prepared next year.....plus the GM is not done yet....... he's a wheeler and dealer.

What a difference with Dombrowski, rather than Klentak, making the decisions.

Since the beginning of the year, he's been working for the Brewers as a special assistant- whatever that means. Although a disaster for the Phillies, I wonder how long before he gets another shot with a team. Does he even get another shot? But yeah, it's nice to have a grownup making decisions.

The Scott Kingery contract is probably a death knell to any future personnel decision making role in a front office.
