September 2, 20205 yr Checked the box score and saw we're up 6-0 in the 6th. Took a guess that Nola was pitching and was right. Bohm with his 2nd dinger. Hoskins 2-3 now up to .272. Nola's only thrown 78 pitches, let him go out there for the 7th.

If you cant cover 2 innings with a 6 run lead then you shouldnt even stretch your starter because you're not going to win anything anyway

No, I don't trust this bullpen to hold a 6 run lead. Anyways, apparently Girardi agrees with me because he is back out there.

I'm saying if you cant hold a 6 run lead with 2 innings left then what's the point of stretching your young ace. But I get why hes out there.

Yeah I hear you but also don't forget, the bullpen has thrown a lot of innings the past couple of days, especially with that cluster ef of a game that Arrieta threw. It would be nice to keep the bp usage down to 1 inning tonight.

Man despite the bullpen being absolute poop this has been such a fun season to watch for the first time in a very long time

Its unfortunate they didn't have a competent bp to start the season because they would be atleast 4 games better than what they are now.
September 2, 20205 yr Nola with 8 IP, only 2 hits allowed and 9 Ks, though he did walk 3. Finished with 112 pitches. After 6 he only had 78 pitches so 34 pitches the last 2 innings for him. If we had a decent BP he should have been done after the 7th and most BPs can get 6 outs before giving up 6 runs. But, this is our BP we're talking about so it was 50/50 at best.

It reminds me a lot of Hamels where he struggled the year after he had a big-time year and then he regained his form

September 2, 20205 yr If the Phillies could just get average bullpen and have Nola/wheeler pitch like they are and the offense to hit like this then they have a punchers chance if they get into the playoffs.
September 2, 20205 yr We did it. We did it! The bullpen didn’t give up a run and we are a game over 500.... where’s the trophy?!
September 2, 20205 yr Phillies are now a playoff team at the halfway point; they’re not going far with their terrible pitching, but it’d be great to see them take out the Braves. Andrew McCutchen with 23 RBI in 31 games — hitting out of the lead off spot, yet.

Damn, that's a lot of RBIs for a leadoff guy, even if they are using a DH in the NL this shortened season. Makes one wonder what his BA is with RISP.

September 2, 20205 yr @iladelphxx Thanks for the stats graph. So with RISP Cutch is batting .360 with a .640 slugging (plus 18 of his 23 RBIs) as opposed to only hitting .215 with a .316 slugging (his BA with RISP is higher than his slugging with nobody on base) with the bases empty. Seems he best with runners on bases and less than 2 outs. He's batting .300 (27 for 90) and slugging .500 with less than 2 outs and runners on base, whether in scoring position or not. With 2 outs, either bases empty or runners on, he's only hitting .160 (4 for 25) and slugging a measly .200.
