June 25, 20232 yr Would have been nice if they’d earned the win by hitting instead of the other pitcher imploding, but I’ll take it
June 25, 20232 yr I turned it off, fell asleep and wake up to find out they won..unless this is a dream

June 26, 20232 yr Yup - they need to change up their approach. Everyone is trying to hit homeruns all the time. The game against the Braves in extras, the one that was tied 0-0 after 9, you could see how all the Braves hitters changed their approach. They had a runner on second, and step one was to get him over, so they hit a grounder to the right side of the infield. Everyone is choking up, trying to put the ball in play, not trying to hit bombs to the second deck.
June 26, 20232 yr I disagree that all Phillies hitters are looking to hit home runs all the time. Schwarber does, and Harper sometimes does. But Castellanos and Bohm are line drive type hitters. Realmuto seems to have a pretty good approach too.
June 26, 20232 yr Forgot to mention Turner. Yeah, he’s pretty much swinging for the fences all the time.
June 27, 20232 yr Eh the two worst everyday starters right now might be schwarber and realmuto. Turner seems to have turned the corner. Realmuto since middle of May (19th) is hitting .185 and .285 OBP (32 games). Also hitting .182 with RISP. Schwarber has 20 HRs and a negative war. And even though June has been his best month he’s still not been great like last year. Hitting .218 with obp .340 and 7 HRs and 15 RBIs. Last year hit .272 with .385 OBP and 12 Hrs and 27 RBIs so he’d have to get hot

Maybe I'm being too harsh but he's been really sucking this year. Aside of the HRs, I can't say anything good about him. Oh sorry, his OBP is .324. I guess I should be excited.

Thing is, he's pretty much been that guy his entire career. He gets super hot for stretches and can hit a bunch of homers, but other than that he doesn't bring anything of real value on the field. Tremendous clubhouse guy though.

I am probably not the person to ask about Kyle Schwarber. I brought up when they signed him i didn’t love him as a player. My reasoning is because if he’s not hitting home runs, he really doesn’t do anything else at a good level to make up for it. My biggest worry was he’d have seasons like this year. Where he hurt you defensively, isn’t doing a whole lot of else elsewhere but he hit you home runs in bunches. It would be fine if you could use him as a DH because he’s not killing you in the field. But he is so bad in the field this year. This was like when they had Rhys Hoskins out there, who was terrible as an outfielder. Like I said in a previous post I was more high on the Nick Castellanos signing. Because I thought with the lineup they would have around him he would be hitting closer to 275 to 290 consistently and have more production RBI wise just because of the lineup. And he wasn’t a great fielder, but he was at least competent. The Phillies really need Bryce harper to be able to play first base so that they could move Schwarber to DH and then either have pass left field or they can make a trade at the deadline for a right handed power outfield bat who is at least decent as a fielder. I do think some of Schwarber‘s problems is he’s getting run down by having to play the outfield so much. I think ideally if Harper could play the field he would be your DH and only the outfield occassionaly.

I’d frankly rather pay him $60-65 mil a year than nola and hoskins combining for 45-50 guessing what the numbers would’ve been before the year when neogtiating. I get a better pitcher and a better hitter.

June 28, 20232 yr Turner gets thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double and the next inning, he commits another error. 😒
