They need him either 4 hole or 3rd. If bohm and stott get on like they have all he needs is to just connect with a ball and it’s a 3 run or 2 run shot. The issue is when he hits homers since he’s leadoff it tends to be solo shots

Thomson refuses to change the top of the order. Change something to spark them during the WS to protect Harper? Hell no. Change the top spot now? Hell no.

All he needs is to not have anyone on base. I feel like that’s the story of the 2023 Phillies besides bohm, castellanos and marsh

Be a nice time for harper to hit a 3 run bomb

Or they just let Kimbrel go for a 6 out save, since they're off tomorrow anyway.

What a dumb team destined to be losers forever

It was huge to take 2 of 3 from a really good Orioles team.

The Angels want to keep Ohtani. The only way they can do that is to make the playoffs and go on a run.

They are 4 out of the wildcard and also trailing NY and Boston. Its well within reach with 61 games to play.

They are also only 7 out of the division with the Rangers sputtering into the All-Star break (but playing better since then)

Trout should be back in two or three weeks as well.

Baseball prospects are iffy at best. Even if you do wind up with a great pitching prospect the next thing you know its Tommy John time.

Hunter Brown looked like he had this year's AL rookie of the year wrapped up after an 0.89 regular season ERA and a 0.00 postseason ERA last year as a September call up.

He's 6-7 with a 4.19 ERA this year. How many Hunter Browns are worth ending any shot of keeping the best player in baseball?

I think a huge haul in a trade was the best statistical play for future success but I understand why they went the other way.

Yeah, but at the same time they could get a haul that could set them up for the future by trading a guy who is all but gone to LAD or NYY.

The issue with the deal they just made is gilito is a FA at the end of the year. Good chance Ohtani and giolito both leave and they lost their top 2 prospects. And trout cause he keeps getting hurt and has a ton of years left at 32 isn’t bringing as much back as you’d think

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Phillies are one of five teams said to be scouting Detroit Tigers LHP Eduardo Rodríguez. Among the other contenders interested in Rodríguez, per Feinsand, are the Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds and Tampa Bay Rays.

In 15 starts this season, Rodríguez is 6-5 with a 2.95 ERA, 3.18 FIP and 2.1 WAR over 88 1/3 innings pitched. It’s a nice rebound from a disappointing first season in Detroit, enough that Rodríguez will have to decide this winter if he wants to opt out of the remaining three seasons of a five-year/$77 million contract and return to the free-agent market.

The problem with Rodriguez is you may or may not have control for the next 3 years. He has an opt out at the end of this year. The fact that he’s gonna be 31 and having a really good year tends to make me think he’s going to opt out to cash in and get a better contract. Likely figured he wants one last big contract especially coming off the year he’s having.

So if you trade for him you’re going to have to do something like the angels in terms of prospects. They did it for a guy who’s not pitched nearly as well as Rodriguez this year and considered to be a front line starter. not sure you want to give up the prospects it would take for a 2 month rental as he’s very likely to opt out.

Really not many rumors out there involving the Phillies.  I wouldn’t expect any huge move…maybe a right handed bench player or a depth starter.

Package deal: Nola and Covey for Snell and Hader. We can throw in Turner as a sweetener.

Only issue with getting rid of turner is have to have someone playing SS. Stott is better at second. He’s really not an SS anns you’d then create another hole at 2b. And sosa the more he plays the worse he looks. Him playing sporadically is better as when he begins to play more often his flaws get exposed.

tbh none of the 4 big time SS on the market last offseason have lived up to what they got. Swanson might wind up being the best and statistically not vastly better than bogaerts and Turner
