The veterans have been inconsistent or just bad most of the year in the case of realmuto, schwarber and Turner. another thing to piss us all off is coming into the game josh bell was hitting .233 on the season. He went 4-5 tonight and reached base 5 times. Burger who was hitting .214 and obp .279 coming into the game. He went 2-4 and reached base 3 times.
August 3, 20232 yr Sometimes I wonder how this team is above .500, with only a few people who play pretty well on a consistent basis.

Honestly for everyday players only stott and bohm are consistent. Turner has been a disaster and seemingly always has the same issue. He’s struggling. Then he will have a brief 8-10 at bats where he looks like he’s turning the corner. Then reverts right back to struggling and then makes a defensive gaff with it. He’s unlikely turning it around this year. you hope like heyman said that he figures it out and bounces back next year castellanos went 2-5 today so hopefully he’s breaking out of his slump. Last two games he’s 3-9. The problem is he still has the same approach. He still chasing pitches out of the zone. Only difference right now is his last 6 at bats he’s done a better job of making contact with the pitches in the zone. His first 2.5 months he was good cause he wasn’t swinging and missing at stuff in the zone. Late June he was swinging at everything and missing. Zone and outside of the zone As much as i love harper, his lack of power really hurts cause they don’t have Rhys hoskins who would normally give them 25-30 HRs. They need his power. It’s nice he has been clutch late in games but his power is sorely missed. Schwarber has been walking a ton lately. However he can’t hit the ball. Since the Milwaukee series he’s got a .103 average and a .417 OBP. So he’s getting walked. Problem is the Phillies need his power cause no one else really has it. Has 2 extra based hits over those 13 games and 4 hits total. I think some of this is teams realize even if he walks he can’t beat them with the long ball and since turner and castellanos for a lot of those games couldn’t hit crap batting behind him they’d just not give him great pitches to hit and he just took the walks. They need his power like harper. As great as getting on base is, only bohm is hitting well with RISP so he’s getting stranded. Realmuto’s biggest issue is RISP. Has been all year. His numbers are ok with no runners on. Has a .270 avg and .309 OBP (would like that to be higher). Not great but he’s not awful like with Risp where he’s .195. Unfortunately i just think realmuto is on the decline. The Phillies have run him into the ground cause the first 2 full years he was here they had Knapp as the backup. Knapp was awful so you basically were forced to play relamuto more innings. It’s why losing in that trade O’hoppe (unfortunate injury) hurts even though they got marsh back. Cause if he was good then you don’t have to have JT catching as much and play some first base and DH. It’s why I’m surprised the Phillies didnt look to draft and developing a catcher high in the last two drafts knowing that O’hoppe was a trade chip in a deal at the 2022 deadline As for pitching, Nola is what he is. He’s worse this year but we all know he’s a 3 that sometimes can be a really good no. 2 when he’s on. He’s not an ace. This year he’s having a 2009 hamels. hopefully the bp isn’t wearing out. Particularly kimbrel. Been used a ton cause dominguez and Alvarado missed a ton of time. and he’s tipping pitches. Strahm is likely in fumes cause they used him as a starter early in the year. He wasn’t supposed to be that but they had too with painter and refusing to go get or use Sanchez for longer. Have to hope dominguez and Alvarado come on strong going forward and are fresher since they missed time and don’t have the innings on them
August 3, 20232 yr Turner down to 8th in the order today. Imagine making nearly 30 million and being relegated to the spot in the lineup that was reserved for the worst hitter in the lineup (minus the pitcher) prior to the universal DH. Add to that his inability to field a ground ball, and he's nearly unplayable.

I get manager wanting him back out there so he doesn’t let it fester and potentially lose whatever confidence he has left but he could use the day off anyway. If we are worried about giving stott being tired and days off then you should be fine with Turner getting one here. Especially with a righty on the mound. Plus think time off let him try to see the game from a different perspective before playing the royals and nats. Those two series guys should be able to feast on some mediocre to bad pitching.
August 3, 20232 yr If the Phillies manage to lose this game today they’ve done so with the ability to also ruin the rest of the day by the 9 am start time on the west coast. What a time to be alive.

Why isn’t Rojas playing over Cave? More lefty righty BS from Thomson? Rojas hits righties just as well as Cave, is better on the bases, in the field, etc.

August 3, 20232 yr Just now, Blazehound said: Naturally JT and Turner flame out. At least marsh got the clutch hit. Realmuto has been somehow worse than Turner with Risp. He’s hitting .192 and Turner is .221. Both are brutal.
August 3, 20232 yr Turner just looks disinterested. Lazy swings, sad stupid face. If 4x4 were still here he’d call him emo
August 3, 20232 yr The most schwarber stat: Last 15 games .106 avg and a .382 obp. Only has 2 extra base hits

August 3, 20232 yr I couldn't watch the game, but it looks like that new pitcher they picked up pitched a gem. That could be one of those under the radar trades that turns out bigger than what people originally thought.
August 3, 20232 yr There's not much left to be said for Turner. He's so horrible maybe he should go down to the minors for a bit to get himself right. Schwarber with another O fer now hitting .180 yet he's SO valuable in that leadoff spot. I know they won, but this team this whole season has been beyond frustrating and flat out exhausting to watch. I'm so glad the NFL season is back.
