August 23, 20232 yr This team and its ineptitude to hit with RISP... 1-9 tonight. i swear Alvarado is always up 0-2 then gets himself into 3-2 counts.
August 23, 20232 yr Idk what the F castellanos is swinging at. both strikeouts tonight the ball is a mile outside of the zone and he’s swinging

It shows that last at bat he has no idea the release point

August 23, 20232 yr imagine if we could play Rhys every day and not have to go sosa or cave in the lineup

The infield would have the perfect mix of power, speed and pure hitting on offense with Bohm, Turner, Stott and Hoskins. But can we afford him to a long term deal?

Usually that injury guys don’t start looking like themselves until the second season back from the injury. I’m guessing Rhys signs a 1 year deal with a player option for a second. They’d have to move harper back to the outfield if they want to bring Rhys back. I don’t see how you play schwarber everyday in the OF and have Rhys at first. So an outfield of castellanos, Rojas/marsh and harper. Frankly Rhys and schwarber are better off being DH. If harper is permanently moved to first then you are playing hoskins at DH and schwarber in the field. another issue is rojas, marsh and harper is your best outfield defensively. Which means schwarber and castellanos are both DH so one would need to be moved to first or one dealt if you brought hoskins back. So if harper stays at first permanently and they go Rojas, marsh and castellanos in the OF then schwarber is your daily DH. Which means really no spot for hoskins to play or be DH.

Well lets hope there is a miracle and he can come off the bench for us in the playoffs with some pop. He obviously got stronger but no idea how is lower half with hold up. And yeah, I know its nearly impossible to come back without any reps into a playoff atmosphere but just keeping my fingers crossed.

Schwarber actually did it when the cubs won their World Series a couple years ago. He basically only played when they were in Cleveland and the DH was available. Wih the full time DH can do harper at 1b and schwarber in the OF. It’s doable but I’m not sure you are gonna get the best of Rhys and exposing yourself to having schwarber in the OF who’s as bad as it gets defensively.

August 23, 20232 yr I don’t think you can have Hoskins and Schwarber together going forward. You’d have to pick one of them to move forward with as a DH. You could likely dump Schwarber for nothing and give Rhys a 2-3 year deal, paying him essentially what Schwarber is currently making. To me, Harper has shown he can more than adequately play 1st. I’d like to leave him there and have a trio of Rojas, Marsh and Castellanos in the OF moving forward.

Obviously the ACL sucks, but I’m not sure how much that impacts Hoskins as a hitter moving forward. At the end of the day, whose bat is more valuable to the line up, all things equal?

I'm taking the 40 homerun guy even though his batting average is a lot worse, now that Stott and Bohm have advanced.

At the end of the day, whose bat is more valuable to the line up, all things equal? I think rhys’ approach at the plate sets up other guys better. Because he sees more pitches and makes the pitchers work more by seeing top 5 pitches in baseball pretty consistently. So guys hitting behind are more likely to get a mistake than Schwarber. However, Kyle Schwarber can hit your 40 home runs pretty consistently and think his personality and leadership in the clubhouse is something the Phillies and Dombrowski love. I think the issue with Rhys Hoskins is, I don’t know what he’s gonna be coming off that he’s acl at 31. If I knew he was gonna be the same player he was before I think it’s easier to say you would go Rhys Hoskins. But at 31 and coming off that type of injury, he might not get the best of Rhys Hoskins until he’s 32 and at that point he might already be starting to decline even if he didn’t have the injury.
