Just once, I'd like to see a player absolutely demolish one of these a-hole umpires.  Like choke slam them through the bottom of the stadium  It would have to be an older player soon retiring though, cause they would definitely be banned for life.  But man it would be fun to see.

It’s definitely gotten worse over the years. A lot of them think they are invincible and just make it about them. I’m fine keeping umps around bases and even behind home plate to make calls on if a runner is safe or out at home but the balls and strikes they need to remove them. There’s way too much inconsistency from one ump to the next and there’s some god awful once like Bucknor who shouldn’t be calling them

I love how he tried to sue mlb. And they proved how bad he was at umpiring. But at the same time they had all this proof that he was a bad ump, they kept them around as long as they did.  just speaks to the stupidity of Angel Hernandez and MLB.

It's not the inconsistency from one ump to the next -- it's the fact that umps will call the same pitch a strike one time, then a ball then next time. Back in the 80s/90s/00s, you had umpires who all had different zones but were consistent. One guy gave a couple inches off the corner, one guy gave the high strike, etc. Pitchers and hitters could adapt. Now I see guys call the same pitch differently in the same at bat -- it's bananas.

there’s a bunch of umpires that you’re talking about that shouldn’t be umpires where zone changes depending on pitch. That part of the issue is that you have these guys like CB Bucknor and the guy who threw out Alec Bohm, who shouldn’t be umpires as they are just bad.

When I watch other games that aren’t the Phillies and I see umps over the course of the series, there’s a lot of them that are just OK or slightly below average. But the bigger issue creating the different strike zone game to game and it becomes frustrating on the players and the manager that it continuously keeps changing. If you would just put one guy behind home plate for the entire series likely get more consistency in the calls and guys would adapt better as long as it’s not one of those umps like Hernandez and Bucknor or just go robot umps.

I don't know. He's had several swings like that this year, including the plate appearance before that one. Either he's going up there with no plan and guessing, or he's blind.

He has similar issues to castellanos. When he’s not hitting the ball in the zone it makes his swings out of the zone magnified and he looks worse. I’m pretty positive he and castellanos go up there and make decisions to swing before the pitch is even thrown. It’s what gets them in trouble like the swings you saw yesterday.

I have been watching clips from the 80s and the home plate umpiring was brutal, here is an example Luzinski should have been struck out looking, I counted 3 missed calls

Yup Phillies down 2-0 in the first. Literally the only two guys you have to worry about are goldschmidt and arenado. JFC

Is this 4 or 5 straight games where the starting pitchers put the Phillies in an early hole? <_<

Don’t worry I’m sure this guy with a 4.50 era will go 7 innings giving up like 3 hits and 1 run

Looking at the WC standings, i think the team you’d least like to see in the best of 3 series is likely the diamondbacks. They have two legit front of the rotation guys. Merrill Kelly has been really good this year. 2.97 ERA. Last night vs. reds he went 7 with 1 hit and 12Ks. Gallen might be the best pitcher in the NL and if he’s not he’s top 3. Their lineup is young and inconsistent but they can hit. Their biggest weakness is the bullpen. The other teams like SF, cubs, marlins and reds don’t have nearly the starting pitching 1-2 that can steal you 2 games with just dominant pitching.

Sanchez has settled in nicely after a tough first inning.

No reason to take Sanchez out now

It’s the Thomson way. If his pitcher is cruising, gotta take him out.
