October 25, 20232 yr Reminds me of the Phillies teams in the late 70's. Very talented but couldn't make it over the hump in the playoffs till they brought in Rose and made Green the manager.
October 25, 20232 yr this is what gets me when people are defending rob thompson, if managers get no blame for anything then what's the point of having a manager then?
October 25, 20232 yr I look at Thompson and Sirianni the same way. Both in over their heads and they get away with it most of the time because of the insane level of talent on their rosters. When it comes down to coaching/managing in the playoffs they lose. This isn't 100% on Thompson but a lot of it is. Our lineup has never made any sense. Its why we hit so many solo homeruns and leave RISP so GD always. His mismanagement of the bull pen is well documented. I'll never forgive him for leaving Rojas in with the bases loaded when we've been struggling to score runs most of the time since game 2.

I'm not exactly sure why you lump Sirianni in there. What exactly has he done in the playoffs that shows he's in way over his head?
October 25, 20232 yr Maybe Casty and Turner can star in a buddy movie called "Down and Away". Which one is which?
October 25, 20232 yr 5 hours ago, mikemack8 said: That's the thing - the Phillies were better than them in every statistical category on offense this year (except maybe SB - not sure on that). They still lost - they got full of themselves and like you said, they all wanted to just hit homeruns. The Arizona pitchers adjusted, and our hitters didn't. Garrett Stubbs running his stupid mouth didn't help. The dodgers were grossly better than the dbacks and the Phillies offensively. Yet lost to the dbacks. The dbacks bullpen that had largely been a bad down the stretch and good portion of the season found themselves in the playoffs. Seward and ginkel have been great for them. Makes it basically a 7 inning game. Betts and freeman combined for 1-21 in the nlds vs. dbacks. Similar to the Phillies in game 6 and 7. Won’t be talked about but the dbacks were really good first 2.5 months. Were tied with the Braves for best record mid way through June. So they were always capable of playing this way. The Phillies got full of themselves after game 2 beat down and really hard to turn the focus back to where they were after just assuming the dbacks would roll over and die. Credit to the dbacks they played better after game 3 and grinded through games even after a deflating game 5.

Had Pederson been coaching the team last year we would be celebrating our Second Super Bowl win. He can't manage the clock, and has no feel for the game in tight moments against good coaches. His offense lacks any imagination. It's a glorified high school offense that works because of how athletic the QB is. One only had to look at how the team looked with Minchew as the starter to see that.

Oh, it had nothing to do with the fact that Mahomes only had one incompletion in the second half? This is the first time I've ever heard someone say we'd have won the SB last year if Nick wasn't the coach. The team scored 35 points with that high school offense.

Yeah generally when you are playing a HoF QB while you have the best o line in football, running the ball to grind the tempo of the game way down to keep said QB off the field is a good strategy. This doofus hasn't figured that out yet.

The funny thing about the "If Doug Pederson was coaching we'd have won that SB' argument is that the only thing that saved us from choking that game away was a huge defensive play that we couldn't make even once in the second half of last year's SB
October 26, 20232 yr Who would have thought this time last week that a few days later the season would be over
October 26, 20232 yr Presser at 4pm Will go down as another great Philly meltdown. You had to win 1 game of 2 in your house after a disaster of game 4 and they couldn't do it. That is the fault of every last one of them! I took my lights down yesterday and worked off some of my frustration washing some windows.
October 26, 20232 yr This team reminds me of the late seventies........ Bunch of stars that can perform and a manager that just couldn't help them get organized.......... They bring in Pete Rose and Dallas Green and what happened was an incredible experience.
