Giving the QO to Nola and not giving one to Hoskins was expected. It'll be interesting to see where Rhys goes. Still a chance he comes back but if there's a team out there that needs a RH power bat who can play the occasional 1st base, he's probably gone.

Been rumors about boras having him take a 1 year contract to prove his knee is fine and cash in next offseason. Frankly if harper tells Dombrowski I’ll move back to OF so Rhys can play first i think he stays. also harper is really good friends with him and called him the heart of the team. I tend to think there’s a better chance he comes backs then nola

Normally I’d say eskin is an idiot but i tend to agree with him. I feel someone will pay him 7 years and the Phillies aren’t going to do that.

Good. He can take his weak mental ass elsewhere. SOB couldn't get it done at home.

The bigger issue is fixing the hole he leaves behind. If they go after Blake Snell, which has been rumored, that’s fine depending on the contract. You don’t wanna get into a contract with Blake Snell that is over four years. Because I’m not sure he holds up and at that point it’s potentially a bad contract. But the other issue with Blake Snell is he’s only pitched 180 innings or more twice in his career. The two years he’s won the Cy Young (I’m assuming he wins it this year). The rest of the time he hasn’t. That’s an issue because Aaron Nola from all his flaws is an innings eater. Which you need in the regular season to get to the postseason.

If I was going to sign Blake Snell, I also consider going after Jordan Montgomery. And just going with a six man rotation of wheeler, snell, Montgomery, Ranger, walker and Sanchez. That way you keep your arms fresh and you have enough arms to sustain an injury. Plus you would have another guy in Jordan Montgomery who last 2 years has gotten to 180 and pitched well in the postseason.

that said, I don’t think they’re gonna go after both. If that is the case, I am actually going to the trade market and trying to get Corbin Burnes. Because I think the Brewers are about to tear everything down as Craig counsel left and burnes wants out anyways. He is a workhorse and an cy young candidate type guy every time he takes the mound. You’re gonna need that as wheeler turns 34. So he is the successor to Wheeler as the ace as wheelers starts falling back to a number two or number three.

some morons on twitter are saying that phillies are done if nola leaves like our hitters can hit more than nola can pitch. heck we can have the cheapest version of randy wolf on this roster and it wont stop the phillies from hitting.

Yeah, the who takes his spot is an issue, but we just saw two years in a row of him not getting it done when it mattered the most in the WS and game freaking 6 at home. Hell, he folded in the SD game as well. That's not a guy you sink 200+ million to.

for that kind of production, it's better to get a cheaper pitcher and get another bat.

Just looking at FA in 2025 there’s a boatload of pitchers that are gonna be available. Have burnes, cole, peralta, woodruff, glasnow, Bieber, Walker buehler, Robbie ray and max fried.

I might actually go get jordan Montgomery on a 4 year deal with a mutual option on a 5th. Then also sign sonny gray who’s supposedly good friends with our pitching coach to a 3 year deal. Give myself a 6 man rotation of: wheeler, Montgomery, gray, ranger, walker and Sanchez. Keeps guys fresh. Then trade castellanos away, move harper to RF and have Rhys here under a 1 year contract which boras wants anyway so he can hit the market healthy in 2025. (Add bench bats and bullpen arm)

then in 2025 i make two splashes. Go after someone in that pitching group (prefer burnes) and go sign Juan soto and move harper back to first

The only way I would consider Trout would be for Anaheim to eat half his contract and even then, I'd still have major reservations.

Yup. His contract is what makes that trade not doable and I’m doubting the angels want to eat any part of it unless you are willing to give up even better prospects. He has 7 years left. If it was 4 years left I’d say do it cause you’d likely get at least 3 prime year. Even if you got only 2 high level years, it’s only 2 left of the contract. However he has 7 years left. Theres a high chance last 4 years of that contract there’s likely decline. there’s a risk he doesn’t stay healthy cause the last 3 years he hasn’t and the last 5 years where there’s been 162 games he’s been injured in 4 of the 5.

We’ll get the arm and the bat when the Ohtani deal goes down.

wow shocking!!

Pretty cool photo. This is the location of the current Citizens Bank Park in 1926. All pig farms down in that area then.

Part of the offseason i wanted to do that i listed above. If they get Montgomery and gray that’s 2 good pitching additions.

If that’s the case they should go get another corner outfielder like bellinger (highly doubt they get him) or a one year stop gap til they go after soto

Thanks, Rhys

Nah, the need isnt in the outfield...... they need a frontline sp and a true closer. Plus you need to find the C of the very soon future..... Marchan keeps getting injured.

There’s one good closer on the market. It’s hader. I’d bet a lot of money they aren’t going to spend the money and years it costs to get him here. You’d need to trade for one and I’m guessing they aren’t willing to do that with Alvarado, dominguez, soto, Hoffman and Orion back next year. Also have McGarry might become a back end of the bullpen guy. has been talks about it. I have a feeling his best role might be a late inning guy

here’s your FA closers list

Wheeler

Snell /Nola/Gray /Trade

Suarez

Walker

Abel /McGarry /Sanchez

Hader

Alvarado

Dominguez

Soto

Hoffman

Veteran Free Agent

Kerkering

Long man/6th starter (Sanchez)

"he ranked in the bottom 2% of the league in chase percentage, the bottom 5% in whiff percentage and the bottom 12% in walk rate. He finished the NLCS hitless in his final 23 at-bats, striking out 11 times while chasing more than 50% of pitches out of the zone.”

I mentioned they should do this. His slashes from July onward were not very good and his chase rate was really not good. However has value with just 3 years left on the deal to a team that wants some leadership and just a complimentary hitter. Frankly if this is true then you definitely need another corner outfielder via trade or FA or like the article says Dombrowski might pivot back to Rhys and move harper back out to RF. That makes the most sense as hoskins approach is vastly different. He sees a ton of pitches (2nd most in NL IN 2022) and he takes a lot of walks. Even when he struggles he gives you professional at bats. Whereas castellanos when he struggles just swings and hacks at everything

I'd rather have Rhys than Castellanos.
