Close.... a**hole for life.

Not going to lie, actually love this

Kind of obvious cause they waited on his TJ surgery. Might have had a shot at the end of the year if he did it around ST instead of waiting

I wonder how he'd do as a closer

The "Buzz" is Scott Boras

Actually think the Phillies would jump in Montgomery at the right price. Feels like that would be a Castellanos type decision. They’ve been interested in Montgomery in the past at different trade deadlines. I don’t think they’d just sign him but if it was right price and years i think they would.

I just don't see him taking a short term deal.

I'm not saying it can't happen, but there's no way I'm investing a ton of money in either of those guys if they're just going to be a marginal improvement.

I'd rather save the payroll flexibility to extend Wheeler and go after someone at the deadline or next offseason

I’d argue Jordan Montgomery on a 3-4 year deal at the right money would be a good upgrade to the staff. Last 3 years he’s had a 3.83, 3.48 and 3.20 era. And last year when he got to the rangers a 2.79 ERA and was dominant in the postseason. His 2019 and 2020 were deceiving cause he only started 11 games (2019 he started 1). And 2020 was a weird year for baseball in general so hard to rely on that data when he’s been good the last 3 years.

Not sure what the Phillies would need at the deadline besides maybe a bench bat and bullpen arm at the deadline if you get someone like Montgomery cause you have depth and quality in the rotation. But frankly if you have wheeler, Montgomery, Ranger and nola then that rotation in the playoffs is pretty nasty if nola pitches like he did most of the postseason last year. And you can also do things with Suarez like in 2022 pitches some out of the pen.

the problem with waiting til 2025 offseason is you don’t know who is exactly going to be available. Altuve is already off the board. Good chance new orioles ownership spends to keep burnes. Soto is likely not leaving the Yankees as they’ll write him a blank check. I am fine if Jordan Montgomery is somebody they pick up on like a four-year contract like they did with Castellanos. I think he is good enough at 30 to potentially take another step up and be really good for you. I don’t think it prohibits them from going and re-signing Zach Wheeler next off-season. Also gives them some backup if he does want too much and leaves

Jordan Montgomery has good stuff - early on he had health problems but seems maybe he's settled in now.

Now this makes sense if you're trading Walker

Not really Jansen had the same issues that kimbrel did second half of last year. He had a 4.61 era the second half of the year and he’s making 16 mil. So $2 mil less this year for a guy who’s basically kimbrel and you can have Walker for $2 mil more that’s at least an innings ester. Add on the Phillies when they traded for lorenzen wanted a 6 man rotation so guys didn’t get tired at the end of the year and had depth in their rotation as painter was done for and they really didn’t have anyone ready in the minors.

Walker doesn’t precluded me from Montgomery. Who knows what Sanchez is after pitching a career high and Walker is at worse a viable 4th starter. I can sign Montgomery and have wheeler, nola, Montgomery, Ranger and Walker and have Sanchez out of the pen and go to 6th man rotation later in the year or if Walker struggles in the second half like he always does.

Only positive is Jansen is on the last year of the deal whereas Walker has another year. But frankly when Walker has 1 year left he’s easier to deal him to a team needing to fill an innings eater for a year and a 3-4th guy in a rotation that can have solid upside.

Walker has 2 years left on his contract after this year. Im not a big fan of him or his pitching style so if DD trades him, hopefully it would be an upgrade for the team but I don't see anyone taking on his contract. In regards to Jansen, no thanks. Isn't he like 80 years old anyway?

I forgot they gave him a 4 year deal. I thought it was a 3. I still rather not take on jansen. He is basically kimbrel. He was great in April. 9 appearances and had a 1.04 ERA. Then May to September 4.25 ERA. Second half of the year he basically was kimbrel with a 4.61 era.

im fine trading Walker. I wasn’t in love with that signing. However, the only thing you’re getting out of that trade is the fact that you get out of that contract two years early. Because Jansen was bad outside of April. So you’re spending $16 million this year on a guy that you’re probably gonna get a month or two out of. And then you’re gonna fall off and you’re still gonna need a bullpen arm and you’re still paying 16 million. This only helps you future.

Which, frankly, I think Walker has the potential to bounce back and be a solid starter whereas i think Jansen is done. I much rather have depth in my starting rotation when I know painter is not coming back this year. You don’t have anybody in your minors that’s ready to make the jump yet. And who knows what Sanchez is this year. He might fall off because of the innings he had to pitch last year that he’s never pitched that many innings before. So you might need a starter even if you signed Jordan Montgomery and trade Walker cause Sanchez may or may not see a regression after last year. And Suarez never stays healthy all year.

imo i rather have 6 starters in my pocket (wheeler, nola, Montgomery, ranger, walker and Sanchez) and then look to trade walker next offseason (hoping he bounces back) when painter is ready. I think walker is just as moveable next year in a deal like what we are talking about. Probably more options as he has only 2 years left unless he just gets hurt or is worse than 2022 (i kind of think he’s better this year)

They haven’t been released yet. I’m assuming Fanatics but they haven’t given a date.
