Harper should be in right field, he is not good at first and it is a more demanding position for his back

He’s been an upgrade at first defensively to Rhys. But the issue is Rhys is a significantly better hitter than Castellanos. Castellanos is either super hot or ice cold. And when he’s ice cold gives you absolutely nothing in terms of quality at bat or grinding at bats to get himself out of it. At least with Rhys when he was ice cold he’d grind through at bats. It’s why he usually was one of the top guys in pitches seen per at bat. I much rather eaten money on Castellanos to just move off of him and keep Rhys. It’s much easier to find a replacement for Castellanos than what Rhys provided production and approach at the plate which helps grind pitches down.

Wheeler is garbage today

Yikes, not a good time for Wheeler to have a meltdown game

He hasn’t been sharp but i give the orioles credit. Today and yesterday, they really grinded through at bats. Even against Ranger they didn’t have great success but that was the only game they didn’t and they were much better after he left the game. The biggest problem with the Phillies lineup is that they’re slumping but also when they slump, they just go back to what killed them in the NLCS. They’re a high chase rate team. And when things aren’t going well, many become even worse and start chasing even worse pitches. Their approach at the plate is bad. like you should have the same approach whether you’re hot or cold. They don’t.

lol casty got a pitch right down the middle (a mistake) and grounds out. That either has to be in the bleachers or a base hit. Not a ground out.

Bring on the robo-umps already. This is pathetic. Strike zone has an extra 6 inches around the entire perimeter today.

Sosa swinging at dirt 🙄

I love Stott but he’s been absolutely brutal outside of a 3 week stretch this year. He might be one of the few Phillies. I actually think needs to start swinging at the first pitch. Because teams are picking up on the fact that he’s not going to so he’s already gonna be down 0-1 if you just get it over the plate.

Stott:

March/april: .225/.311/.682

may 1-19: .383/.523/1.140

may 20-June 15: .169/.235/.456

And of course wheeler gives it right back. Him and nola giving up 16 ERs between them on Thursday and Sunday.

Woof. Time to watch the US Open and Euro Cup.

Wheeler is horrible

Makes this worse is the Braves look like they are gonna sweep the rays and picked up 2 games. people seem to think the Braves can’t catch them is laughable. They caught the Mets a couple years back with a similar type of lead. And the Phillies July through mid August schedule is brutal.

Way too early for people to be assuming the Phillies have the division locked. Don’t think those people know that baseball is played for 162 games. This is what we all knew would happen with our Phils, struggles will happen to good teams it’s not how do they respond once they get back home and get healthy guys back. Losing JT is a serious impact and people also blowing him off saying he’s not a superstar we’ll be fine don’t know that a catcher is a lot more than bat and glove. Probably the most important player on the field besides the pitcher. The dark days have begun it’s just how long are we gonna be in the dark for?

At least the rays didn’t completely meltdown and lose today. Saving grace of todays awful performance.

let me point out with the whole Jt realmuto issue, I said when they traded for Brandon marsh it didn’t love it because o’happe is a good hitting catcher prospect with solid defensive upside. It is hard to trade away a young catcher who was a top 100 prospect for an outfielder. It is much easier to find outfielders than good hitting catchers. It’s a coveted position. O’happe is having a very good year. He’s hitting .284/.335/.811 with 9 HRS and 31 RBIs.

I like marsh. He’s a solid OF but i don’t think marsh has nearly the value a good catcher prospect had. Frankly think O’hoppe had higher upside as he’s a good hitting catcher and controllable for many years and JT was getting older. meanwhile they should’ve kept him or drafted and developed a catcher and tried to decrease JT’s innings caught instead of Stubbs who was never going to do that.

It's no coincidence things started going to crap with JT out.

I said when they made that marsh trade, you’re gonna need a better backup catcher because JT was not getting any younger. And he had the most innings caught of any catcher by a lot. there was the thought that by the time he got to the second last year that contract, he could really be declined and not be able to play as many games as you want him too as his body is breaking down. So you better have a competent backup or a young kid like O’hoppe that you platoon with him so he could stay fresher as he got older.

I argued then and I’d argue now O’hoppe was a more valuable prospect due to position than marsh and with how marsh showed at the MLB level. The fact the Phillies won’t just let marsh be a full time player and they don’t play him with certain matchups is an issue. Cause he’s either a platoon player cause they don’t trust him or he’s not good enough to be an everyday hitter. Add on jt getting older could’ve used O’hoppe to keep him fresh so he doesn’t breakdown as fast.

This isn’t to just bash marsh. I think he solid. I just think it is a bad move to trade away a promising good hitting catcher for an outfielder that the angels were down on because of what his career looked like early on. I thought they made a poor value trade. And I do believe as the years go on it is going to play out that o’hope is just a better player at a more coveted position than Brandon marsh.

2028 Phillies will lose 130 games

He will finish with a close to 4 ERA this year, he has lost velocity and he is not the same pitcher

How comes they don't play match ups with Rojas but they do Marsh? Makes no sense

They do with Rojas. They haven’t as much cause marsh got hurt and Turner was out. they were really limited with LH outfielders. It was pache, Whit, Rojas, Dahl and Castellanos. Dahl was the only lefty. So essentially it was play Rojas or pache or whit. I figure they rather play Rojas to give him the at bats then whit with how he was hitting and pache who’s not long term option.
