At least the bullpen looked good. Everything else was horrible

The Phillies really should consider skipping ranger Suarez’s next start on Friday. Think he needs some time off. He’s been walker type bad over the last 3 outings. If you do that he could pitch the last game of the opening series after the all star break vs. the pirates which is 15 days from now. You could use Mercado on that Friday start. And you could take Walker off IL vs. A’s and start him on Saturday. And wheeler gets Sunday. It’s not ideal to have Walker as starter but right now ranger has looked like Walker and I kind of think he needs time off. Plus you’re facing the Oakland A’s so Walker should theoretically be good enough to be able to win that start if he is just average.

Why I’d do what i laid out

This team gives me a headache

New bridge to cross today. Going 3-3 would still be getting the job done but a W today to win both series and go 4-2 despite all the injuries would be the stuff of a championship team.

As for Ranger, I’d sit him for three starts and roll the dice with a callup. 1-2 in those three would be worth it.

Baseball is a loooooong...too long regular season.  Suarez had an incredible start and is going through a dip right now.  He was never a 100 MPH pitcher with a 10-0 record nor is he a 10 plus ERA 0-2 pitcher.

Don’t really need to sit him for 3 starts with the all star break coming up. If you skip his next start (Friday) and don’t start him til the last game of the pirates series that’s 15 days off between starts. Feels like that’s plenty of time off so he isn’t tired. Based of what Thomson said last night feels like he’s hit a wall and is tired

Great, same basic result. Do it.

I like his bat but his fielding is not good. Essentially like putting a slightly better Kyle schwarber or another Castellanos in LF. The reason we moved schwarber to DH was to upgrade defensively in LF. I would be fine with it but i think there’s a hitter out there that’s better defensively so you get both aspects.

Think it’s a massive mistake if they give up Aiden miller for any of those 3. Particularly Chisholm

Out of those 3, I would prefer Bellinger. He has 2 opt out years after this one but if he enjoys playing here, especially if they are hoisting the world series trophy at the end of the year, I can see him opting in for at least 1 more season. DD will need to be fired into the sun if he gives up Aiden Miller for any of those guys though.

In my mind, Painter and Miller are untouchable. Period.

The more irritating part of this is how many times this off-season did we say go sign Cody Bellinger because you need another bat? So you could’ve signed him for pretty much nothing but just money. But now you realize that you need it and you’re gonna give up one of your best prospects? To me, that’s the most irritating part. He was out there all winter. You could’ve gotten him. Frankly his contract isn’t even a bad contract for the fact he’s a good defensive player and a good hitter. And can play multiple positions.

What’s even more irritating is they believed Whit Merrifield would be the guy and Rojas adding muscle was going to improve our outfield. Yikes

It’s not just that. They also thought Castellanos was going to change his approach in his 30s. That was never gonna happen. He was always going to be the same type of player where he was extremely hot and cold and swings away at Crap. That hasn’t changed. The whole high chase rate and we are gonna change that discussion after they lost to the dbacks didn’t happen for our outfield

They also thought that Brandon marsh would take another step and start hitting left-handed pitching. Meanwhile, they worked with him for a year and a half and he still wasn’t great against left-handed pitching. We’re now at the two-year mark and he still can’t hit left-handed pitching. So at some point, you gotta say to yourself he’s just a platoon player. So realistically, they missed on four things. Whit was always supposed to be a bench player utility player. It didn’t address the need for a full time starting OF

i was saying this since the beginning, records dont mean squat if you cant beat the playoff teams means there's big flaws. failure to address them you will be knocked out of the playoffs.
