It’s just going all over the place. And when he doesn’t throw it as hard, he has better control, but it’s hittable as the movement isn’t as great. He needs to figure out his command cause if he’s throwing low and mid 90s he’s much more hittable. That inning looking at espn he hit 97+ 6 times. 5 were balls and the one strike he left in a sweet spot that went for a double As a former pitcher, I struggle to accept (but need to) that MLB relievers who generate the forces necessary to throw 97+ probably have to make some concessions in control. If they didn’t, they aren’t in the bullpen in the first place. But there are competitive HS pitchers that throw strikes and hit spots more reliably than some of these MLB bullpen arms. At these velocities, with these spine rates…I just think it’s easy for some of these guys to lose control.

It’s why the rays gave up on him and we sent him to the minors two years ago. Also i wouldn’t be shocked if he’s got some fatigue. We rode him hard down the stretch in 2022 and the playoffs then again last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Phillies clinch somewhat early or it’s looking like that if he doesn’t get like a 10 day IL just to rest.

It’s tough to manage. The Braves came out flat after their bye while the Phillies were rolling in. But it’s so tempting to put these arms on ice whenever possible. I worry about the mileage on all of them. I feel like early Sept is the best time to rest. Still leaves time to get everyone innings late in the season. before the real fun starts.

We forget but in 2022 he missed 2 weeks in beginning of July. Then another 10 days between starts in middle of July. had 1 start from June 30 to July 24. last year he missed the first 1.5 months and then missed about 2.5-3 weeks from middle of August to beginning of September. I think part of the reason why he is struggling right now is because he has a dead arm. He has pitched 108 this is the most he’s had in a first half of the season in his career. He only pitched 125 last year and in 2022 he got to 155. He’s on pace to shatter his innings mark. I wouldnt be surprised if he also gets a two week off period as well as they consider going to a six man rotation at some point when they get walker back up and Turnbull.

Yeah I think Ranger is the biggest priority to cut back on injuries. His regular season may be a revelation, but he’s usually rock solid in the playoffs. It would be devastatingly cruel if his huge net positive this regular season translated into a net negative compared to the post-seasons. They’ve got to make sure he’s ready to rock for October.
July 11, 20241 yr @e-a-g-l-e-s eagles!…you’ll hate this, but I wonder how creative and disruptive the Phillies would be willing to get to add another big bat to the lineup. We know we aren’t on the same page with regards to disruption of the farm system, but what about disruption of the outfield? Does it have to be a neat fit as a CF? Remember, the Phillies almost won the WS with a Schwarber/Marsh/Castellanos OF. What about adding a corner OF and sliding Marsh to CF? Heck, what about adding a DH and sucking it up with Schwarber in LF? What about a 1B and Harper in the OF for the playoffs? Varying degrees of crazy, but there are some interesting bats that could theoretically be trade targets at corner OF/1B/DH, including some really heavy bats that might come as cheap rentals for the run. Some shuffling in the field that you might look down on, but the same lineup upgrade might come a lot cheaper that way instead of overpaying for a bigger CF bat.

I really don’t think marsh is nearly as good in centerfielder. He is much better in left field. However, if you’re going to do it, the guy to go after is Vladimir Guerrero jr. because he is available and he has a year left on his contract. So you could move Bryce Harper to left field and move Brandon marsh to CF in a platoon with Rojas. And the best bat that you’ll likely get in this market is Vladimir Guerrero jr. He would be a guy I’d be willing to pay the price for. He’s 25 years old and an all star player. And when Kyle Schwarber’s contracts up at the end of 2025 you can move Vladimir Guerrero Jr into the DH and Harper back to first base then go out and try to get yourself another outfielder or Crawford’s ready at that point. (Assuming he’s still here). this is like a one percent chance to happen and frankly, I think one percent chance is very high.

Without that, I’d assume he’s good as gone and is a really cheap rental at the 2025 trade deadline for a contender. To get Toronto to mail it in on their most marketable player one year early, they will have to come away from the deal feeling good. And that’s going to be priiiicey. Phillies would have to be confident they can lock him up with a long term deal to justify it. But to add that bat to this lineup…
July 11, 20241 yr Topper would probably love a Rojas/Marsh CF platoon dictated by pitching matchups, considering how much he loves that rotation as it is.

I don’t think they would be against giving him a massive contract. Because frankly, I think they’re gonna be in the Juan Soto sweepstakes this off-season. I don’t know if they’ll get him, but I would be shocked if they’re not one of the three teams that’s mentioned with him all off-season what I kind of think is going to happen is they’re gonna get another bullpen arm and they’re gonna get someone like a Taylor Ward. He hits left-handed pitching really well and platoon him with marsh
