July 13, 20241 yr JFC i don’t know wtf Bryson is swinging at there. That ball wasn’t close the entire way. Again he also shouldn’t be in the 5 hole. He’s not a big rbi drive in runs guy. not going to lie Marsh and Stott have been brutal at the plate today

Get his some rest I don’t know if we get Skenes for the first game of that series but i wouldn’t want him facing him right now. That said I will bet the Pirates go on a run. Don’t know if they’ll make it to the playoffs but they are much different team with Skenes and lately. They've been playing better baseball even in some of their losses. I feel like they’re gonna ride the wave of momentum brought by Skenes and be competitive down the stretch. They have a chance to be at .500 at the AS break
July 13, 20241 yr I don’t know if Alvarado has any options left but either they need to just sit him for like 2-3 weeks so he can get rest and maybe that fixes the problem. Or he needs to go back down to the minors and figure out his crap again. Because he has been awful lately.

And instead, he nearly imploded.
July 13, 20241 yr Congrats to the kid for winning in front of his home town and big thanks to the bats to help him get it

July 14, 20241 yr How does Turner’s current streak compare historically with other Phillie torrid streaks?

Topper seems to be of the mindset that people get right by keeping at it. I get that he wants to give them something positive to build on before the rest. Sometimes that’s true, sometimes you need a rest.

You’re up 11 to 4 so there’s no pressure. it’s not a high leverage situation. You could just throw strikes and work on your stuff and get your yourself right. Yet Alvarado couldn’t do that and nearly got them into a close game as they had their best player at bat with the bases loaded and it was only a six run game.
July 14, 20241 yr What would it take to swing a trade with the Royals swapping 1st round picks so the Phils can draft Chase Burns?

Any reason they can’t do it NBA style and trade for him (or anyone else) right after the draft?

The only picks that can be traded are the Competitive Balance picks and they can only be traded by the team who owns them and it has to be for a player/a and not for cash. These picks are awarded to the bottom 10 teams in revenue and there are 2 sets, one after the First Round and the other after the Second. As far as trading recently drafted players, the earliest they can be traded is after the World Series the year they were drafted. It used to be an entire year. You can name them as a Player to be Named Later. Ironically, the first player to be traded like this and prompted the rule change was Trea Turner in 2015 https://www.mlb.com/news/trea-turner-nationals-padres-trade-revisited
July 14, 20241 yr Any thoughts on Jack Leiter within the Rangers organization? He pitched at my HS and his team broke our wins record, so I watched his career with great interest. He had a fantastic combination of pure stuff and pinpoint control…#2 overall pick…had one rough year and a brutal MLB debut. Would be nice to see him still make it, although he has fallen off the top 100 I believe. Probably still a better shot than someone like Abel at this point.
