But the Phillies do a good job identifying guys with good stuff but poor control. And work on fixing their control. So I’m guessing we have a couple guys in the system similar. To me keeping painter, Crawford, miller, Caba and tait is a win. Unless we are getting a star I’m not willing to just give those guys up.

The issue with giving up top prospects every year is can’t replenish as fast you are giving up. eventually you’re wanna have some bullets in the gun in case a big name becomes available to make a splash and they want your top prospects. I’m fine giving up top end prospects if you’re getting a star level player back. If you’re just getting solid players, then you shouldn’t have to give up your best prospect. Like if Juan Soto was available heck trade whoever you want to get him (assuming you can re-sign them and he was gonna be here long-term). However, I’d be irritated if they dealt miller or painter to get someone like estavez even with how good estavez is he’s a rental and he’s not someone like mason miller
July 28, 20241 yr This trade, obviously, would have rendered Seranthony useless. They clearly lost confidence in him. You can sort of think of this as the two pitching prospects for Hays plus Estevez. You can argue they should have gone bigger game hunting, but it’s pretty likely they will get a lot more mlb production from the guys they just acquired than the guys they gave up will ever give you.

Yup. Upgraded the right handed bat OF with Hays vs. Pache. Upgraded the RHP RP with Estevez for Dominguez. And with Estevez, you eliminate the question mark about the closer. Tyler Phillips trying for something special.

July 28, 20241 yr Complete game shutout for Phillips. That was as impressive a start as we’ve seen this year from the Phillies.

July 28, 20241 yr What a difference a day makes?! Just for a little reality check. Last 10: Top teams in the AL: Orioles 4-6 Yankees 4-6 Red Sox 4-6 Guardians 4-6 Twins 5-5 Astros 5-5 Mariners 2-8 Top teams in the NL: Phillies 4-6 Braves 3-7 Mets 6-4 Brewers 5-5 Cardinals 5-5 Dodgers 6-4 Padres 8-2. (Won 7 straight, they are the only 'hot' team right now) Not many top teams have a lot to crow about in their last 10. I think a lot of it comes down to them playing each other right now. It's going to be a fun October.

It's going to be a fun October. Dbacks are 7-3. And are close to getting Merrill Kelly and Eduardo Rodriguez back. Also added Aj puk to their pen. Have had the 2nd best record since June 1st and done it largely without gallen, Kelly and Rodriguez tbh rooting for them to not make the playoffs. Their rotation if Kelly and Rodriguez are healthy is pretty nasty. Puk helps and been rumors of them going all in on tanner scott. That fixes a massive issue. And their lineup is good. Add on experience coming into Philly.
July 28, 20241 yr My rant on bullpen arms: I think more casual fans overlook the importance of the bullpen in favor of flashier rotation pieces and full time lineup fixtures. But I also think more diligent fans can overrate it sometimes. Look, bullpen arms are critical in navigating October (and in protecting regular season wins)….BUT…sometimes the blame and emphasis on the bullpen feels like saying the Eagles lost a 10-7 game because the damn CB gave up a touchdown pass in the 4th quarter. Maybe we should be looking at the QB and the offense. I still think the Phillies, as currently constructed, are going to go as far in October as a hot streak with their bats can take them. When that lineup ices down, it’s over. And the more dangerous bats they can stack on top of each other, the better chance they have of that offensive fire lasting through the winds of October. Unless you have a near historic bullpen, you are going to give up some heartbreaking 8th and 9th inning runs against elite offenses. And you win those games by getting those runs back. In 2008, it felt like Madsen and Lidge just erased the 8th and 9th inning away from games. They may have a really nice (and deeper) arsenal of arms in the bullpen this year (deep enough to really command some bullpen games too)….but they are not going to have that same level of shutting games down after the 7th inning.
July 28, 20241 yr Marsh and Stott need to stop with the childish BS until they consistently hit worth a crap

Get focused and stop with the immature crap until you do. Maybe it's just me but I can't stand the look of it right now.
