Sorry this was a dud of a deadline

I didn't say it wasn't.  No splash.  Lots of others moving.

Of the players who were traded this year, who would have moved the needle for you?

The fact Nola somehow got 7 years when no other starting pitcher touched 5 this offseason is a feather in the cap to his agent. I’m positive no one else would’ve given him more than 5 years

Not sure the beef with Nola.

I wanted arozerena. I’d have done a similar trade. He had multiple years left on his contract. He also after 3 games is hitting .455/.538/1.357

Not a beef literally one pitcher who has two cy young’s didn’t get more than 2 years. Yamamoto was only one that got that type of deal and he’s 25. he was younger than Nola and less were. I don’t believe anyone was giving 31 year old Aaron Nola 7 years. Frankly i think if he went to the market he likely topped out at 5. Especially off the year he was coming off of

Ok.  But, let's not forget he was hitting 0.211 for the Rays.  3 games is a really small sample size.   Let's see where it all lands in the end.

He was hitting close to .300 since June 1st. His start to the season sucked. He’s been red hot since June 1st. He was coming back to the player he’s shown in the past. Austin hays has what he has since last all star break.

since June 1st his slashes .296/.406/.528/.935. Some of the best numbers for an OF over that time. Cause he was never as bad as his early season numbers indicated.

Yes.   But, he's had a declining BA each season... 0.254 last year, 0.265 the year before.  I don't think he's going to finish the season with Seattle having anywhere near a 0.300 average.

Tie game!    Go BOHM!

His OBP didn’t. Neithee did OPS. Been pretty consistent. His slashes since June 1 are some of the best in baseball and the mariners didn’t give up their top tier prospects either. It’s ridiculous to sit here and say they didn’t need him. He’s also playoff proven in the past. His analytics beyond BA say that was a good trade for mariners.

he doesn’t have to hit .300. He hits 260-270, can play vs. RHP and lhp and is productive it’s a massive upgrade. Just pointing out he’s hit .296 for 2 months now. So there’s a chance he would hit around where he normally does per season. Which is a good upgrade. Move marsh to CF with platoon with Rojas it’s an upgrade.

also they’ve said hays isn’t a platoon.

Never said that they didn't need a player like him.  The Mariners made that move quickly.  We knew the Phillies needed to improve their offense from the OF.  He could have done that.   They ended up with a different playoff experienced former All Star LF.  Hays doesn't excite people, but as I said earlier, they made the move for the "what" (aka, a LF), just not the "who" people would have preferred.  Hays hasn't done anything here, but Arozerena has done a lot in Seattle... but its been 3 games.

At this point, all we can do is sit and watch, because its over.  You are on record.  Arozerena > Hays.

(BTW, I hate analytics.)

As fans, we always want the flashy moves, but they aren't always what gets the job done at the end of the day.

👀

Homerun Hays!

Ha! That will shut you people up! Lol

Frankly I’d have made both moves tbh. Hays has played CF before. You could’ve had hays/marsh platoon in cf as neither marsh or hays are great center fielders by analytics and arozerena in LF. Rojas should realistically be in the minors working on his stuff everyday.

No doubt, especially if he's not going to be playing at the MLB level now.

I honestly don’t hate Austin hays for what they got him for. Worth the shot. Dominguez had been wildly inconsistent for 1.5 years now. And pache was getting cut anyway. Frankly i thought they should platoon him and get a CF. If you weren’t going to get a CF he played CF for the orioles in the past so him and marsh can platoon there and make a splash at LF

Phillies won’t say this but i truly believe they are gonna make a strong push for Soto next offseason to play LF. They didn’t want to add someone who couldn’t be moved to CF or easily moved due to cheap contract.

Had a feeling tait was close to untouchable. Realmuto is declining and closer to the end. Tait is likely ready when realmuto’s contract ends.

That was my hope as well... but, it is what it is now.   Gotta hope it works out.

Tbh i really wouldn’t be shocked if they sign Soto in FA if marsh/hays platoon in CF. They use Rojas to get a bullpen arm during the offseason. Reason i say that Crawford is eventually coming up and he’s a CF. Can have Soto, Crawford and marsh/hays(whoever at that point platooning) when nick’s contract is up.

How far along is Tait? JT only has 1 more year on his contract. Would Tait be ready to take over in 2026?
