Jalen Hurts discussion (Part 2) - see new topic for contract extension

I think you guys just just like to argue. We have accepted the young man has a great year and has the potential to stick around for years. We are discussing how that could work and progress. Running as much as he did will not allow him the time. The hits accumulate and the habits stick. It has ruined plenty of QBs with amazing physical talents. Concerns aren't trash talking, it's an observation. These observations arent full of malicious intentions. We are talking about keeping him on the field and getting him paid. Most of you are talking about signing him, resigning 5-7 starters and all will be perfect....we can't do it all and he will have even more weight on his shoulders going forward. It's in the eagles best interest in teaching him to protect himself. I'm sorry if that's not as exciting as this year, but trust me when the QB is throwing 35tds instead of combining tds to get there, you will be just as excited.

Good time to remind: if you just want act like middle school cliques trolling and insulting each other go to RnR.

  • Just take a moment to realize how easy things look for this offense when the quarterback is right. This team just scored 28 points against a divisional opponent in a half. Just insane where things cou

What could we get for Jalen Hurts in draft picks this year?

I know it's up from a 5th rounder at the end of last year.

I'd say at least the next two years. QBs here seem to not last long

We don't want him to be Newton or Jackson either. Why wouldn't you want him to resemble a guy with all the rings?? He can still be mobile. It's him. 17 carries isn't necessary though when he has all the talent around him. It be one thing when he had to make all the plays. He has everything

You liked what you saw vs the Giants in the last game? You liked cautious Hurts? That's nice. I prefer the one defenses worry about.

LOL. Poor Hurts. He can squat 600 lbs, but he just can't shake off all the worrying.

You may have accepted some of Jalen, but not all of him.

I want Jalen Hurts to be Jalen Hurts. I don't want him to be Newton, Jackson, Brady or anybody else that he is not.

Right now he is Newton and Jackson.  To not be them, he needs to take the next step, pass more and run less.

Awwww poor baby. What? You don’t like what I said? It’s just "facts”. 😂

More like:

"I'm worried about his noddle arm."

"I'm worried about his accuracy."

"I'm worried about his lack of arm talent."

"I'm worried that FA WRs won't want to come here because our QB is a RB."

"I'm worried that the Eagles with three 1st rd picks, won't be willing to trade for  a real Qb this year and waste another with a RB playing QB."

"I'm worried that the Eagles didn't give Carson Strong a legit shot to showcase his arm talent."

"I'm worried that  Hurts will show a little more improvement this season and fool the Eagles into passing on a real QB prospect in the 2023 draft."

"I'm worried that we won't lose enough games to convince the team to move on from Hurts."

"I'm worried that it's the team, not Hurts, making this offense click. Any QB would have the same success with this talent around him."

... and now, all of a sudden, it's:

"The best player in the history of the world keeps risking himself to injury and he's going to gyp us of a record setting Galactic Sports Icons Hall Of Fame first ballot induction ceremony where he thanks Eagles fans for all their wonderful advice and apologizes for still leaving a couple plays out there."

Don’t forget that Devonta will demand a trade by mid season because Hurts can’t get him the ball enough.

He's going to have to run at times.  The QB sneak, the run up the middle out of the spread, the 3rd down scramble for a first - this is Jalen at his best.  Let's just hope he does not get body slammed into the ground again.  The plays in Chicago were ill-advised and the frozen tundra worse.

Not cautious but confident within the pocket. He showed he can do it. How did I get more confident in his arm than you guys?

He is neither of those guys. He does not need to pass more or run less. He needs to help this team win games. If it makes you feel better, he needs to avoid this:

Nice strawman, and false dichotomy to boot.

How about the Hurts we saw vs Green Bay and Tennessee in back to back weeks. The guy who was both smart and dominant. Played the game to exploit the weaknesses of both team. The run defense vs Green Bay, where the runs he did take, aside from 1 or 2, were smart runs where he could get down, then took advantage of a weak pass defense against Tennessee. In neither game did he play the game to be a battering ram.

How about that Jalen? Can we have more of that Jalen and less of the stupid Jalen that played in Chicago?

I have no problem with his arm, but it's the whole player that makes him special. I don't care if he stays in the pocket. leaves the pocket, throws or runs.

No, but no one is saying he has to play that way and become a total pocket passer. He also doesn't need to run 11 or more times a game. A healthy medium would suffice. Is that unreasonable?

All that squatting and he's gotten injured/missed time in every season he's the full time starter. Strange. That feat doesn't mean much if he can't stay on the field.

This next bit isn't really directed at you, but I think it's funny that people have been so hell-bent on others eating crow, but when we talk about wanting Jalen around and healthy for the future, people lose their collective minds.

Just seems silly.

He did that all year until the Giants game which he played differently.

Actually, he is.  A run first QB who peaked early, and injury concerns are now part of the conversation.

List all the QBs that have not gotten hurt the last 2 seasons, please. Even Jake Elliot got hurt this season. Why? Because injuries are a part of football for everybody at every position no matter how they play.

To the 2nd part ... Honestly, after a lot of things that were said before this season, specifically the criticism related to Hurts' play style which involves a larger dose of QB runs, the whole claim that those critics "just want him to be healthy for the future" comes across as disingenuous and a way to back-handedly criticize a play style his critics never liked. I didn't want to bring this up because I have no way of knowing how sincere anybody is. But surely you can understand why I would doubt their sincerity under those circumstances. Even more curious is that some of the same people that criticize Hurts for running like he does were vocal critics of "Siri-soft."

10 minutes ago, brkmsn said:

Disagree. He was not a battering ram all year taking the brutal hits he took in Chicago. He had moments here and there, and there were even some complaints about the few he took, like against Minnesota, and one or two vs Green Bay, but in no game did he play as stupid as he did vs Chicago.

You're the one with injury concerns. I have none. I hope he gets his extension ASAP.  You're also saying he has "peaked?" LOL

I know for a fact, with no research, Hurts, Lamar, Murray, Fields and Lance have all missed games this year.

No, I said his two closest comps peaked at this point in their career.

Those are YOUR 2 closest comps. Or rather, your NEW closest comps.

of course not too long you swore his closest comp was Tyrod Taylor so wtf do you know?

You're missing the point though, whether intentionally or you truly aren't understanding/I'm not communicating it.

No one is arguing that injuries can happen. No one is arguing that he should never use his legs. No one is arguing that he can do nothing other than passing the football.

So again, if we're to be giving him 50 million a year and move forward with him as the guy, why is it unreasonable to try and have him be as healthy as possible? I don't expect or want him to run twice a game. That doesn't mean he needs to run 15, either.

The assignment was to list all the QBs that didn't get hurt the last 2 seasons. The list probably won't include Dak, Winston, Wilson, Burrow, Wentz, Tua, Rodgers, Stafford, Tannehill, Jimmy G, Mac Jones ...
