The assignment was to list all the QBs that didn't get hurt the last 2 seasons. The list probably won't include Dak, Winston, Wilson, Burrow, Wentz, Tua, Rodgers, Stafford, Tannehill, Jimmy G, Mac Jones ...

Why hurt, why not games missed ??

Good time to remind: if you just want act like middle school cliques trolling and insulting each other go to RnR.

You're missing the point though, whether intentionally or you truly aren't understanding/I'm not communicating it.

No one is arguing that injuries can happen. No one is arguing that he should never use his legs. No one is arguing that he can do nothing other than passing the football.

So again, if we're to be giving him 50 million a year and move forward with him as the guy, why is it unreasonable to try and have him be as healthy as possible? I don't expect or want him to run twice a game. That doesn't mean he needs to run 15, either.

I'm not missing the point. I just disagree. I don't believe running = more games missed due to injury. I honestly believe that the hits that QBs sometimes take as passers (in or out of the pocket) have a higher potential for serious injury than the ones QBs take as runners because they can't protect themselves and have farther to fall. You don't see a lot of RBs break their clavicle, but it's actually pretty common for QBs. Hurts had a grade 1 shoulder sprain because of an injury he suffered as a runner. He was able to play with the injury, including passing. You can't play with a broken clavicle. I also see how the Eagles' offense tends to control the clock longer with an effective running game that utilizes the QB and that brings down the offense's total plays for the game, minimizing the risk of injury for all players out there by lowering the number of plays.

So, let me get this right. We have a QB who is setting all kinds of records, has lost one game starting in goodness knows how many, while being an MVP candidate and making second team all pro.

And this message board is crying about how much he runs and his injury risk?

Let me tell you - QBs that last forever like Brady and Rodgers - they are outliers. That longevity is freakish.

Hurts is in his third year, his second as a starter. What he offers is so much more than being a pocket passer. He's like Randall 2.0, the ultimate weapon, recast for today. He'll get injuries, every player does. So, enjoy him for what he is. His passing will keep getting better, but it's his running ability *matched with his passing* that makes him special.

Give the man his money this offseason. It's not our cash, right? And for what he offers, including in terms of a potentially shorter career, he's worth every penny. And if he gets injured, well, so what? Aside from wishing him to get well soon, we thank him for the electrifying memories.

It's been a wild ride this year, and a lot of that is because of Jalen. Roll with him for a while, he has earned that much.

Because a grade 1 sprain is not as big a concern as people are making it out to be. The Eagles clearly thought they could coast through the remaining schedule, lock up the number 1 seed while resting Hurts for the playoffs. We all know he would have been playing if it were a must win situation like the giants game turned out to be. People look at Herbert and praise him for his toughness, playing through the rib injury, but here a grade 1 sprain a month before the playoffs = "limping into the playoffs."

You're the one with injury concerns. I have none. I hope he gets his extension ASAP.  You're also saying he has "peaked?" LOL

You aren't the only fan on this board dude lol I mean you post like it sometimes the way you take it personal...I get your take. Every player is an individual and every player will deal with an injury. Our discussion isn't that at all. Our discussion is equivalent to the guy who wears a large chain going down a dark alley at night. Should he get robbed (aka get injured from an unnecessary big hit) no....but does it increase his chances significantly.... absolutely. We are supporting the kid as fans of the eagles. It doesn't even have to be as Hurts fans cause at this moment who knows what the kid will be one, but sharing concerns for his long term health isn't a slight to his game at this point. We get it. He makes flashy plays. You prefer the ones on the ground, we prefer the work he did in the air....thing is, he is now hurt going into the playoffs....that style isnt great for his long term health. This isn't Madden. These injuries accumulate and stop progressions in careers. There is no disingenuous remarks coming from any of us at this point. We've actually been supportive most of the year.

I don't "prefer" either over the other. I prefer that he plays the style of football that he has been playing that makes things harder for defenses. He can do both, but only the game should dictate whether or not he runs more or less. In most cases, it's his call and he he has earned my trust. I'm not telling him to do something he doesn't want to do. I'm supporting what he does do.

Once again you are claiming he's "hurt" going into the playoffs. It was a grade 1 sprain. Those are day to day injuries. Yes, the Eagles were cautious, but they were going to be cautious and rest guys once we had the #1 seed anyway.  Hurts will be a full participant in practice every practice remaining which means they'll be done "resting" his injury and confident in his health.

"I'm feeling better," he said. "It's a day-by-day thing. Just taking it day by day. I think the whole world knows that I'm dealing with something, that I've been dealing with something. I think the whole point of that game (on Sunday against the Giants) was coming back and getting done what we needed to get done and obviously getting some time to rest, so here it is."

"I think it's a lot of time for us to grow as a team. I think when challenges and different things are thrown in front of you, ultimately, you have to find a way to overcome them," Hurts said. "We have a lot we want to accomplish as a team, so this is good for us."

"We have to be unwavering and diligent in this whole entire process," Hurts said. "We have to be the same, approach it the same. We've been a team that has focused on getting better every day this whole entire time, so nothing changes now."

"I want to give it everything I have," he said. "Keep the main thing the main thing."

"You just kind of want to be consistent," Hurts said, "do what you've done this whole entire time. I want to go out there and be the quarterback that's prepared the way I've been from Week Zero to Week 18, play the same way, have that same intensity, have the same type of leadership, create that same type of energy for the team."

"I think, in the end, I have that mindset where my pain gives me strength. Failure motivates me. That's the mentality that's passed towards this team."

That should be obvious.

No one's asking him to never run. It's apparent that it adds some dynamic to the offense.

A healthy medium isn't really that unreasonable, is it?

I am of the view that Hurts does most of the time protect himself when running, certainly more than Allen does. But I agree an average of 7-8 rushes would have to lower the risk. I also think the Eagles as a whole need to work on dealing with blitzes and particularly zero blitzes.

Where are you on the extension Swoop? I think the Eagles will definitely at least try and get it done this off-season. Be really risky to let him go into his final year without an extension

That's where I'm at. If people are as confident in his throwing as they claim, I think cutting the number down some is reasonable and lowers the risk. He ran 15 or more times I'm six games this year. Its too much. He needs to let some of those options go and the coaching staff needs to help him out, too. I also think that moving around as he does helps get him into a groove. Something to keep an eye on.

I think they will reach an extension that works for both parties, but a lot depends on where we end up in the next few weeks. Should Hurts win the Super Bowl, I imagine he'll (rightfully) get paid a ton. Should he play poorly and we get blown out, I'd imagine they're more cautious given his injuries the past two years as well.

If I were to guess, I'd say that Howie will give him an extension regardless, but in a way that allows his bigger payday to occur down the line some. I'd guess there will be "outs" of some sort. I'd also guess that based on the drive he seems to have with winning, he won't be as expensive as people are guessing. That's not to say he'll be cheap, but he's not going to sniff 55/60 million like some have suggested.

Yes pretty much agree with everything you say. I just think it’s crazy for some people to say they wouldn’t look at extending him until next year.
It sends out all the wrong messages, will probably result in a bigger contract and I’m not sure we will be in a position to tag him anyway.

As you say the offer will be adjusted by the playoffs and outs are sensible given he’s had a couple of injuries.

280 million extension with 190 guaranteed over 6 years feels about right with an out after 4 years.

Agreed on the six years with an out after four and given we will likely push the big, big money down the road some...it's not a bad deal.

If they don’t win a playoff game, he will have to wait.

Remember what happened to the last almost MVP second team all pro QB the Eagles paid to soon.

It's pay Hurts now for a cheaper price or risk having to pay him more.

All of y’all thinking that Hurts won’t get paid is living in a fantasy world. Mike Vick took them to the playoffs once and he got a 100 mil contract. Wentz got 107 guaranteed over 4 years before he ever went to the playoffs. Hurts might not get the years of Mahomes, but he’s going to be paid and it will be by the Eagles. The sooner they do it the better overall, because the longer they wait (although I get the reason why) the price will just go up.

And how did it work out for those QB’s after they got paid ??

How did it work out when Josh Allen got paid?  You know, the guy Hurts finished ahead of in the All-Pro voting?

I wonder if Jalen’s agent is trying to tell us something? 🤔

Yes.  Quinnen Williams about to get a huge contract.

@brkmsn why do you think Andy Reid always insisted his mobile QBs learned to play more from the pocket than rely on their legs? Wouldn’t you say he’s been pretty successful at developing QBs? Maybe he knows a thing or two?

My guess is Jalen gets less years but a lot of guaranteed money.

Because Andy Reid invented abandoning the run. Reid also was a system first guy and never designed around player strengths during his time here.

Seems to have worked for him....

Does anyone have the stat regarding how many of Jalen's runs were either QB sneaks or kneel downs? I'd imagine the # has to be close to 30. That would bring his "true" run number to about 9 real runs per game ... and out of those 9 runs per game, how many are of the run out of bounds variety (many of his runs) where he doesn't get hit? 4? That leaves about 5 runs per game where there is a chance Jalen gets hit as he is "actually" running. And how many of those runs are slides as Jalen is a pretty smart QB? 1-2? So realistically we are talking about 3-4 plays per game where Jalen actually gets "tackled as a runner".

As his passing keeps sharpening (no reason it won't after seeing his progression in year 2 as a starter) ... those true QB running plays will likely dwindle. Jalen's a high IQ QB with good weapons around him; like I said in an earlier post, just make sure to keep a solid OL around him and he'll be just fine.

Right?

I think the timing on this s^cks. Focus on playoffs. Get paid later.

How about Jalen focus on winning his first playoff game?

Rather than being distracted by his agent.

Go show us that you deserve more money.

Rather than creating commotion in public.

Maybe she's smelling a payday for both of them.

First things first. We're trying to win a Super Bowl.

Andy Reid did not stop McNabb from running. McNabb's psyche dealing with the Rush Limbaugh fallout did that. The numbers are crystal clear.

Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes have always been passers who sometimes run. Nothing changed during ARs tenure.

Mahomes top 2 rushing yards years are 2021 and 2022.

Smith's highest rushing numbers in KC were year 3 and his 3rd highest was year 5.

Vick ran for 1597 and 11 TDs in Philly under Reid in 35 starts.

Its amazing how strong the self delusion is in some people about QBs and running.

Reid is the worst, except for all the other guys not named Belichick or Lombardi. So he's 3rd least worst maybe?

There are 14 NFL coaches who have won 10+ playoff games with a single franchise. AR is one of them. If he wins next weekend he becomes 2 of 15.

Imagine what that guy could do if he'd ever adapt to anything. 👀
