Jalen Hurts discussion (Part 2) - see new topic for contract extension

Andy Reid is one of the greatest coaches of all-time.  And he's always had a mobile quarterback, including McNabb, Vick, Smith, and now Mahomes.

I'd say his coaching and mentoring of mobile, athletic QB's has been top-notch.

Good time to remind: if you just want act like middle school cliques trolling and insulting each other go to RnR.

  • Just take a moment to realize how easy things look for this offense when the quarterback is right. This team just scored 28 points against a divisional opponent in a half. Just insane where things cou

Does anyone have the stat regarding how many of Jalen's runs were either QB sneaks or kneel downs? I'd imagine the # has to be close to 30. That would bring his "true" run number to about 9 real runs per game ... and out of those 9 runs per game, how many are of the run out of bounds variety (many of his runs) where he doesn't get hit? 4? That leaves about 5 runs per game where there is a chance Jalen gets hit as he is "actually" running. And how many of those runs are slides as Jalen is a pretty smart QB? 1-2? So realistically we are talking about 3-4 plays per game where Jalen actually gets "tackled as a runner".

As his passing keeps sharpening (no reason it won't after seeing his progression in year 2 as a starter) ... those true QB running plays will likely dwindle. Jalen's a high IQ QB with good weapons around him; like I said in an earlier post, just make sure to keep a solid OL around him and he'll be just fine.

I have no doubt the running attempts will go down over time for Hurts since he made such massive strides as a passer this year.  The coaches will likely adjust the offense accordingly going forward.

I think the timing on this s^cks. Focus on playoffs. Get paid later.

How about Jalen focus on winning his first playoff game?

Rather than being distracted by his agent.

Go show us that you deserve more money.

Rather than creating commotion in public.

Maybe she's smelling a payday for both of them.

First things first. We're trying to win a Super Bowl.

I think the only one getting distracted by random tweets is you and your fellow Washers and chicken littles.  The QB is focused on what needs to be done.

There are 14 NFL coaches who have won 10+ playoff games with a single franchise. AR is one of them. If he wins next weekend he becomes 2 of 15.

Imagine what that guy could do if he'd ever adapt to anything. 👀

This is confusing to read. What point are you trying to make? I'd say Andy has had phenomenal success and I believe if he gets another ring, probably lands in top 5 coaches of all time.... He has taken runn first QBs and has adapted their style to fit what works in the NFL.

Relax dude. Could be about a lot things or a different client. Up to this point though I’m not all that worried about Jalen’s focus. Nothing he’s done so far makes me question that. Minshew makes me question his focus like his dad openly talking about how he wants to go someplace else and compete and all of his other shenanigans. No wonder why he couldn’t just beat the Saints or Dallas. More worried about the hype and the attention than the task at hand.

My guess is Jalen gets less years but a lot of guaranteed money.

That's what I am thinking too.  Howie doesn't want to get stuck with a Wentz contract again.  Needs some maneuverability if need be.

Andy Reid did not stop McNabb from running. McNabb's psyche dealing with the Rush Limbaugh fallout did that. The numbers are crystal clear.

Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes have always been passers who sometimes run. Nothing changed during ARs tenure.

Mahomes top 2 rushing yards years are 2021 and 2022.

Smith's highest rushing numbers in KC were year 3 and his 3rd highest was year 5.

Vick ran for 1597 and 11 TDs in Philly under Reid in 35 starts.

Its amazing how strong the self delusion is in some people about QBs and running.

Yeah, myth busted by Mahomes running less than 4 times per game.

:roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

Yeah, myth busted by McNabb having his career high in carries for a season after Limbaugh's comments

Yeah, myth busted by Vick going from 100 carries his first year starting for Reid to 76 his second year

Lol that would be basically the Wentz contract. 😂 The only way I see Hurts take a lesser deal in years would be with a shorter term contract with more guaranteed money. Howie probably writes it up in a way that allows the Eagles to either get out of the deal and restructure or move on from Hurts after a point if it’s not working out. I just don’t think Hurts would deep six the deal just after one season like Wentz did cause he’s soft.

The first thing Hurts did after Sirianni gave the coaches and the team off when they won the bye was to request to do film work with Sirianni at the Stadium on Monday. Losing focus isn’t a problem for this dude and regardless it is his agent’s job to get money for her client. Obviously the better he performs the more money he makes. I’d be more concerned if while he were out he was jealous that his team was having success without him (but that didn’t happen) and he was selfishly complaining about it. Or if he was out duck hunting with his buddies and his favorite MLB friend. Alas people around here love that kind of behavior from their quarterback so long as they’re obsessed with his arm talent.

I wonder how much the coaching staff changes their ways in this manner too though. We have seen a lot of quarterback runs this year by Jalen that we’re designed one. Not just quarterback scrambles. I don’t care as much about the runs as long as Jalen is doing a better job of protecting himself. I don’t need to see him out there trying to challenging linebackers and safeties trying to run them over especially in regular season games. The last guy kept doing that and that has a lot to do why his career is basically in the trash now. Jalen needs to play smarter or the injuries will pile up. Fortunately he’s done enough so far not to have injuries that he hasn’t been able to return from.

Just another one of those options some of y’all wanted more than Hurts.

I still can't figure out wtf he was thinking. This guy does dumb **** every year. I guess he thought Hockensen would break the tackle?

Now you are being dishonest.  Not one person wanted anything to do with Cousins.

Same old thing with this guy. Makes a lot of money, puts up numbers, and wins little to nothing.

Yeah. I don't recall anybody suggesting we go after him. There were some that ranked him higher than Hurts on their QB lists, though.

Plenty of people around here wrote anyone but Hurts, and a few wanted Cousins. Doesn’t it matter because NONE of the options they wanted did much of anything. They won’t admit to that though.

Starting that Giants Game was just what Jalen needed.   Now it's time to rise to the next level.

I sure they’re going to deny this one too, but here another one of those "anyone but Hurts” guys they were begging for.

No one wanted Cousins or Baker.

Either find proof or STHU.

I truly wonder if the Eagles kept their SB winning head coach instead of trying to keep and appease their mediocre former starting quarterback how things would have turned out with Jalen. I mean he’s already placed himself well into the top ten with a head coach that isn’t big on quarterback development, but I wonder what might have been if Doug got a full season to work with Jalen.

Do you believe Jalen would be even better than he is now? Or the team for that matter? We’re 20-2 since week 10 of last year in games Jalen starts
