If it's such a terrible job, get a better education and do something productive.  Or get a job at wal-mart.  They're qualified for that kind of work.

So, I pointed out the reality that debunks your anecdotal claim that teachers are a bunch of lazy screw-offs making 60k with cushy job security, and you deflect from the subject with a non-sequitur by saying "if the job's so sh***y, they should get a better one!"

Do you realize you've already lost the argument?

And of course, he would still be wrong even if it wasn’t true. Slander is for spoken words. Written words are libel.

Words have meanings.

the older you get the more you come to learn that words actually have no meaning at all in my experience

You've said nothing to change my mind on this premise.

So why did you bother to type all those meaningless words just now?

I have no expectation of doing so in light of your obstinance, but I have exposed the fallibility of your position.

But, hey, sure, some are what you describe. Ignoring the fact that politics limits what many teachers can do to being little more than that, there are definitely some slackers just collecting a check (like there are in every industry), but even if we accept the premise to the extreme, that we're all just a "bunch of 'glorified babysitters," well...

College educated should be in quotes

And the fact a teacher (probably) created that, it means they realize that is all they are; glorified babysitters.   Supports my position so thank you for that.

Anecdotal data doesn’t paint a complete picture.

My one and only thought on education is this. It shouldn't be so tied to property tax.

Teachers are like most every other group out there. A few excellent standouts, and a whole bunch of losers doing the minimum to not get fired. Only in the truly alpha/competitive fields where compensation is tied to performance (finance, law, etc.) is there any difference.

Teachers are just like the kids they teach. A few winners and a whole bunch of losers.

Exactly.  No fear of getting fired thanks to the unions, so they don't have to worry about being good and no incentive to excel since raises are based on tenure not performance.

What are these meaningless words you type?

180 school days = 16 weeks of no school

This is dumb for so many reasons but babysitters don’t get paid a full rate per child. That was definitely made by a stupid teacher.

A stupid "college educated" teacher

Obviously, but I'm sure they still charge additionally for more than one kid. So, cut that figure by 1/5 for 20% markup per child. You still get 72k.

Sure... 72k.  But with no benefits\pension

So....  a teacher making 60k to f'n fingerpaint with kindergarteners for 70% of the year (16 weeks off out of 52) but is getting benefits and a pension is still raking in a TON more that that 72k figure.  Which is OBSCENE.

This is so dumb.. there are benefits and vacation time and when you pay a babysitter you have to pay a higher rate or minimum to get someone to come to your house for a few hours so you can go out to dinner and a movie. It’s not going to be comparable. You’re paying a premium for the short term nature of it. I’m an accountant - if I prepare a tax return or financials for someone on the side it’s going to cost more than my "hourly rate” at work. Only a stupid teacher would have come up with that poster.

A stupid "college educated" teacher.  And the lack of glitter is disturbing.

Maybe they should have made a diorama to get their point across.

I mean, we're talking about a hypothetical here. The situations aren't actually comparable in that managing a classroom actually requires much greater expertise and ability. The whole argument that Paco is trying to advance is baseless to begin with, so I don't know why you're trying to actually break this down mathematically.

Only a "college educated" teacher can manage a room where children are literally not allowed to leave.  So much harder than a babysitter where the child has, more or less, free reign of their own house.  They should automatically make six figures!

Except your job is not just to keep them in a room, it's to instruct them and maintain an environment conducive to instruction for each student in that room, while every additional child exponentially increases the challenge of properly managing and maintaining order over the group.

Yeah.  Keep them occupied and behaved.  Kind of like a .......

Also the more I think about this 72k a year....  A babysitter is on their own.  A teacher has a whole support system in case the child acts out.  The child misbehaves they get sent to the Principles office.  So that's one cut.  Plus the Principle has an assistant, so that's another cut.  And if the child is really bad, that's detention, so someone has to watch the kid for that (lord knows the teacher isn't doing that, they peaced out by 4 pm), so that's another cut.  Stopping right there, that drops them down to $18k.  So throw in benefits and pension at that salary, and that seems right.

Why I’m trying to break it down mathematically ?? You literally posted a poster that tries to break it down mathematically   sorry that I injected reality into your stupid Facebook meme.
