If your plan to defend your home from an intruder is to give your young kids automatic weapons it might not work out so great.

Just saying

My kids all learned about firearms and fire arm safety at a very young age, that said no I don't rely on my kids

Still find it utterly amazing that people don't realize how that electricity is generated, the minerals and metals we need to mine to make the big batteries, and where those batteries go when they die.

Battery hell or heaven?

If only this showed anything about EV batteries. Sure recycling them is the preferred method but as of today not feasible with the predicted number of EVs on the road shortly.

If we were stuck, frozen in time and no other new technology could EVER be developed… you would have a point.

Fortunately, we are not frozen in time and battery technology is advancing quickly. Especially since there is incentive to do so.

Except that does nothing to help recycle the massive amount of batteries we have already and will still have in the near future. Solid state batteries are a dream as of now for car companies.

Holiday sales on track to blow past record for spending, topping retail trade group’s biggest forecast

Wait, you mean there is more $$$ spent after massive inflation?  That's wild man.....  next you will tell me there was a lot more spent on gasoline in 2021 vs 2019

Was there though? 2019 was a non pandemic year. Without using any references it wouldn't surprise me to learn more was spent on fuel in 2019. Might be wrong.

So Christmas is "stolen" when people buy presents?

A more painful (from a financial perspective) Christmas with potentially less presents, for certain.

A bit dramatic.  Unemployment's low.  Wages are up.  Market's up.  I know the right focusses on economic criticism whether it's warranted or not, but the economy's doing pretty amazing compared to where it was a year ago.  Not much to complain about.

My Christmas is gonna be both "lit" and hectic as F. Over the course of 2 days I have like 50 people coming through my house. Both guest rooms will be full and part of the basement will become a suit for 4 for 3 or 4 days. I have a buffet style meal for Christmas eve, mostly Italian foods with a smoked ham thrown in. Then Christmas I have a huge prime rib to smoke.

From what to can tell based on projections, we'll consume fewer gallons of gasoline in 2021 vs 2019. But for the year, and this is an at a glance approximation but I don't think it's far off, gas averaged closer to $2.55/gal in 2019 and more like $3.05 in 2021 (gas prices didn't go over $3 until May after starting the year at $2.31). So gas cost about 20% more in 2019 vs 2021.

So if I had to guesstimate we're paying like 15% more on gas vs 2019. Pretty significant.

Good news it's trending down pretty strongly heading into 2022 now that oil rigs are getting back online. OPEC adding to supply in Jan will help further.

How far are they up compared to inflation?  I haven't looked into any nationwide data, so just going by who's around me, very few got raises worth jack the past two years. (and a very, very quick google search looks like its trailing and the trend likely to continue next year)

Wages haven’t kept up with inflation for 50 effing years… so don’t expect that to change.

This confirms my suspicion.  Van, you can disregard my question.
