Posting this here because apparently this is quite the controversial ad if the comments are any indication. I guess most people think drunk guys are getting raped by drunk girls at an alarming rate or something, rather than the other way around.

I mean that is kind of F'd up.  If that were the case, I'd still be in prison.  When you're young and single, how are you supposed to hook up without everyone getting drunk?

Not me. I was the one who got taken advantage of while I was under the influence… every single time!!!

I can’t even talk about some of the things that happened to me with my wife.

If it were that cut and dry, all a guy would have to do to take advantage of a drunk girl he finds in the bedroom of a house party would be to get himself drunk first real quick before climbing on top of her. Obviously there's a gray area, but if I'm raising a son, I'd tell him it's a gray area he should try to avoid to be safe. Kinda like I tell my daughter not to retaliate in sports if someone is getting too aggressive or physical beyond the letter of the rules. The refs are gonna see the retaliation more often than not and that's what they're going to punish. The "she started it" defense might work or it might not, but better to not even put yourself in a position of having to use it at all.

Personally speaking (and not implying this is the right or wrong way) but I was raised to never hit a woman, even if she hits me first, and also raised to not take advantage of a drunk girl even if she comes on to me first. "If you're having to explain to someone else why you had to hit her, you've already lost." Whether I'm drunk or not, shouldn't really factor in. After all, we don't use that excuse for any other crime like physical assault, drunk driving, etc.

I'm not saying I took advantage of women but you know, everyone was drunk all the time.  I had already met my wife by the time online dating was popular, so it was always at bars or parties.  I can't even imagine how impossible it would've been to hook up without alcohol.

Well so was I.  I don't know anybody who wasn't.  But sleeping with a drunk girl isn't even in the same ballpark.  I'm not talking about a passed out girl now, but I wasn't carrying around a F'ing breathalyzer.

Look, I've got a daughter too and when she's older, we'll tell her she needs to protect herself, not put herself in a position where something could happen, etc.  But if the expectation is that a young boy with hormones pumping and alcohol running through his veins is going to turn down a hot girl who's coming onto him then that's completely unreasonable.

The point is that the law will usually favor one party over the other when a dispute like this arises. When cops show up to a house for a reported domestic violence incident, they're gonna scrutinize the man more than the woman and the man is far more likely to be walked out in cuffs than the woman is. He might be able to prove later in court that it was in self defense but to even have to do so is kind of a drag when he probably could've found a better way to avoid the situation altogether (note: the ad doesn't say he was convicted of rape, only that he was charged with it.) Right or wrong, that's the reality of the situation in domestic violence disputes. Likewise, when a rape allegation occurs, the same dynamic plays out and the best way to avoid that risk it is to not engage with a girl who is clearly drunk.

I hear ya and it wasn't all that long ago for me, so I'm not completely forgetting how tough it can be, but turning down a hot drunk girl it's still more reasonable than finding yourself on the other end of a rape allegation. Likewise, it can be tough not to get behind the wheel of a car when drunk but hormones and alcohol aren't excuses for a lapse in judgement there either, or getting into a bar fight, or vandalizing property, or a number of other crimes.

1) I get it.  With your faces you need to pounce.  But this isn't hard.  If a girl is f'd up you don't take advantage.

2)

It's way easier not to get behind the wheel of a car.  We don't have thousands of years of instinct to drive home baked in.  We're literally hard wired to want to stick our D in women.  You take away inhibitions and I just think it's a bit outrageous to expect 18 year olds to give a hot girl the stiff arm when she's coming onto him just because she had a few drinks.  We're getting to the point of consent forms (and actually there almost certainly already are in some kind of app).  My son's close to the age where this is going to be an issue.  I think I'll get him that app.

I suppose it gets tough when everyone is drunk lol, bad jusgement all around.

Yes it's tough to fight back those temptations, but still the point is if you put yourself in a position where find yourself in a court of law having to say any of the following statements:

"But your honor, I was drunk too and she came on to me!"

"But your honor, I don't carry around a breathalyzer with me, so I didn't know exactly how drunk she was."

"But your honor, we have thousands of years of instinct to put our D in a V"

Then you've already lost, regardless of whether the judge ends up agreeing with you.

I get your point,  but none of this ever came up for me.  I feel like if you're A) not a complete a-hole and B) not ugly and/or fat, then there's very little chance a girl's going to regret sleeping with you to the point of calling consensual sex assault.

Water under the bridge for us, the ad is intended to warn the next generation not to take the same risks. It's the level of risk that seems to be the point of contention.

Yeah, when you drink to much the jusgement is the worst!

Werd.

In the scenario given in the meme, when both are drunk, I can't see how any blame or responsibility can be assigned to just one participant.

Didn't have @VanHammersly admitting to having to take advantage of drunk girls in order for his ugly ass to get laid on my CVON bingo card for today

Your honor, two wrongs don't make a right!!!!!

  Call me retarded all you want but I draw the line at calling me ugly.

Flat out, you're all liars if you say you never slept with a girl who was drunk when you were younger.  You're either lying or you married the first girl you slept with.

I mean, one of them may have done wrong, but if both were drunk how can anyone say which? Maybe the female involved was the one with bad intentions and the male was taken advantage of?

Where's the wrong here?  Is drinking wrong?  Or is consensual sex wrong?
