September 29Sep 29 F off Andy Dalton. Do you even know which team you play for? Get all the way down the field from the 1 yard line and you throw a pick in the endzone. GET HIS ASS OUT OF HERE
September 29Sep 29 I'm still pissed at the result of this game. There are a laundry list of problems with this team right now
September 29Sep 29 A couple of thoughts post gameIt is pretty easy to overreact to some poor performances. In the season they won the Super Bowl they struggled early in the season and had the god awful game against the Bucs before sorting their crap out. I think coming off the extreme heat against the Titans and being on the road they were always going to look sloppy. Having said that, there are still some really worrying signs and question marks and losing to Keenum is pretty horrendous. The D looked like complete ass all game. They had one drive where they forced the 3 and out and looked like they were finally going to play with some fire before getting ED and deflating like Brady's balls the rest of the way. The line is getting barely any pressure, Woolen had been solid before turning to crap in this game, they bailed them out with penalties and other than Q it didn't feel like they had a winner on the defensive side of the ball. They have gone from being a dominant force to being inconsistent at best. No one should be surprised that a first time play caller in Mannion is looking like a first time play caller. We saw it with Patullo, there were some signs last week with the way they drove the ball and even in the first half that he may be okay. However the second halves the offense has been inept for the majority of the time and that was no different. You could see the frustration on Hurts' face on the 4th and 1 call, it was a complete what the f are we doing here? The bubble screen to Lemon needs to be torn up and never see the light of day again. They were able to get the run game going in the first half and in the second Barkley had something like 4 carries for 9 yards. That brings me to Barkley who has been an absolute liability in the pass game and when he is running the ball he is either getting hit behind the line or shows 0 decisiveness to get downhill leaving yards on the field. They have to pull him out in pass situations because he has been below average as a receiver and downright awful as a blocker. Teams are happy to blitz and force him to pick it up speeding Hurts up. He has struggled to pick up short yardage most of the time he has been here which is why they are so reliant with Hurts on short yardage. He had two opportunities from the 1 and lost yardage resulting in Dalton throwing the pick. They are almost better off bringing in Bigsby in that situation. The line has been disappointing and the interior (Jurgens in particular) have been turnstiles. The change in blocking scheme was supposed to revitalize these guys listening to how they were talking in the off-season and instead they look confused and unable to do what is asked of them with the current scheme. These are tractors being asked to play as finesse guys and they don't have the lateral ability to execute the scheme more often than not. Add in the penalties or allowing defenders to shoot the gaps resulting in 2nd and 3rd and longs, the offense can't get any rhythm. I think Jurgens needs to sit down with Kelce and work out where he needs to go from here. Kelce had similar issues where his play drastically fell off a cliff in 2016, he was almost out the door and then in 2017 he was amazing. It may not be the same for Cam, but considering Kelce hand picked him as his replacement, there would be that opportunity to mentor him and hopefully get him back performing at a high level. Hurts was ass in the 2nd half. Outside of a few big chunk plays, he missed some throws and that interception was a disaster. He just ignored Edwards who listened in to the call and knew exactly where that ball was going. They are giving the ball away and still have 0 takeaways on the defensive side of the ball. I worry that Howie has gone the 2018 route and given contracts to guys who deserved the payday for their performance during that season, but aren't worth the current output. He ended up paying Alshon, Wentz, Brooks, Peters and a few others during that run, before having to use some creative manoeuvring to get out of the poor contracts. Jurgens and Dickerson are the two that will be spoken about the most, but we currently have Barkley, Carter, Davis, the whole Brown situation and Greenard has been injured and hasn't had a chance to show anything while being on decent money. The rookies from the last two draft classes haven't exactly been impact players yet which they were able to get from Q and Coop to make that 2024 run. Drafting Campbell also meant they let Dean go and they looked drastically different with Nakobe in and out of the lineup last year. They really appear to be missing him and the disruption he caused on the defensive side of the ball. Anyway, rant over. There is every chance they come out and beat the Rams by two scores and we all look like morons for over-reacting.
Tuesday at 07:47 PM5 days My 2 cents, this team looks to me like they're still hungover from winning the Super Bowl 1.5 years ago. They look like a team that has zero huger and loves to smell their own farts.
