I picked my backup QB based on who has a sad opponent on my starter's Wk 7 BYE (Mac plays the Jets). I didn't even realize Derek Carr plays the Eagles DBs which basically means 500yds and all the touchdowns... I may need to re-consider...

I considered Murray (my other comfortable Rd4 option) but Lockett never made it to me at 44 in any mocks and I had him ranked a couple rounds above the next crop of WRs available, so I’ll see if taking Locket and Herbert instead of Murray + someone like JuJu or devonta smith ends up working in my favor or not

This was literally the first draft in decades where I didn’t go into it with a "plan”. I’m always RB heavy up top (RB RB WR RB is my norm with a flex), fade QBs and really really fade TEs. This year since I don’t know s*** I just let the draft come to me.  I took a second QB where I would normally considered taking my first. Took a TE and Defense a bit higher.  No wacky trades (because, well, the league wasn’t set up for them this year)

At the 5 spot, unless a RB fell to me at pick 20 (which happened), the guys left at 20 all score within 1-1.5ppg of the RBs that will still be available around pick 55-60. But the WRs from picks 15-30ish are soooo much better than the ones in the mid-50s, so I just wanted to make sure I got them. And even if you took 3 RBs early (either first 3 rounds or something like RB-RB-WR-RB, your 3rd WR drafted in like round 7-8 probably still is going to score the same points per week as your RB3 taken in rd3-4, so while he’s great "depth” on paper if RB1 or RB2 goes down, you can quite possibly have a 3rd/4th round pick that sits on your bench 6 weeks of the season while your 8th round WR is starting in your flex spot… I feel like anyone taken in the first 6-7 rounds of the draft should be a 100% lock in my lineup every week unless they are officially OUT.

I had a total of 2 mock drafts leading up to tonight. Picking at 7 I tried RB/WR/WR/RB and RB/WR/RB/WR. I felt that the WR's available in the 4th were comparable to whatever WR I would get in the 3rd, the RB's in the 4th were a step below the guys in the 3rd. I was hoping to get one of Montgomery, Carson or Robinson so that panned out.

TE's after the top tier it's a bit of a crapshoot. Andrews was the last guy I would have considered as high as pick 55. After Agent grabbed him I felt QB was the position we were going to see a run with Jackson going the pick before mine so I grabbed Dak and waited to grab whatevef crap was leftover at TE when they fell to me.

I did 2 mocks at work from #5 probably the day or day after you did our draft order. In both cases, I used the generic rankings in the espn draft window and because of doing them at work, I maybe made it through round 4 before something came up and the rest of my team auto-picked.

On Fri last week (working remotely from back in NY) I finally put together my color-coded spread sheet and did 4 mock drafts yesterday afternoon and early evening when I got home from work, using my player rankings instead of the default ESPN one, and doing different positional strategies like what you just listed. Where I have waited historically for QB and TE, what I learned from the spreadsheet and the mocks was that the drop off in respective tiers for both positions is so drastically huge (TE especially) that if you don't target them by like round 5ish, you are effectively ish out of luck.

So using my 4 mocks yesterday, I compared each of them to see at which point the QBs and TEs started to deplete, and if I did NOT get those players (and instead got a "better" RB3 or WR3 to play in my flex, or maybe even a WR2), how would my team look with a sub-tier TE or whoever else. So I basically looked at who was taken in the mocks to get an idea of who I could have taken at my pick each time and tried to determine which position-targeting strategy was the best to take. Note: they all have Jones as my top-4 RB were universal with everyone elses, with Jones being my #5 RB, and NOBODY in a single mock let one of the top-4 fall to me... nor in our draft
