I would vote for Checkers over Trump. Hell, I'd vote for Nixon over Trump.

It seems I am not alone in that.

For sure about Nixon over Trump.  At least he had the decency to resign when he saw the handwriting on the wall.

He's losing his mind. Maybe he has retained enough sense to see the writing on the wall.

That’s because the GOP leadership bailed on him, unlike the spineless FH’s in the GOP now.

I don't think he would have if he had Fox News and Twitter.

Nixon would never have done anything close to what Trump did with the election. First, there was plenty of rumor and innuendo about the 1960 election, and Nixon was the sitting Vice President. And yet he conceded to Kennedy (who he personally hated) and presided over the session to certify Kennedy's win. Second, Nixon was driven primarily by hatred of his enemies and a belief they were conspiring against him, which justified his actions in his mind. But underneath it all, Nixon was a patriot who believed strongly in American exceptionalism. He would have cheated his arse off to try and get more votes, but he wouldn't have tried to overturn the will of the people after the votes were cast.

Donald Trump, August 8th, 2023: "I could have been relaxing at Mar-a-Lago or in the south of France, which I would prefer to being in this country frankly."

I think Goldwater seemed instrumental in seeing that he be gone.  It would truly be refreshing if others would follow him as a role model of leadership.

Likely on point with this assessment.
