June 28, 20241 yr So I suppose I should worry that we are seeing bad things at levels we've never seen before, in maybe forever in the history of the life of our country... Well, at least I can take solace in knowing that...Finally, we beat Medicare. Oh what a night...

He should never have debated, and anyone who told him it was good idea should be fired. I'm sorry if your candidate lacks the basic mental acuity to debate policy then the issue isn't that they agreed to holding a debate. Jesus just find a candidate that can beat Trump on policy by articulating a coherent case for their platform.

I wish the US would go with a 4-2-3-1, Adams and McKennie in the double pivot, Reyna as the number 10, and use Josh Sargent at RW. He would do well in that role I think. Play farther back and let his energy and intelligence influence the game. In defense, collapse to a 4-4-2 with Pulisic and Balogun up top. He wouldn’t need to be the finisher or playmaker with Pulisic, Balogun and Reyna. Plus we would still have Pepi and Wright to bang in goals off the bench, and Weah could use his pace against tired defenders in the second half.

June 28, 20241 yr Forget November. President Biden's obvious and serious cognitive deficiencies has me concerned about what he may decide is a good idea next week. Is he fit to finish this term? I certainly don't want that giggling 2nd rate beauty pageant contestant Kama-lama-ding-dong to take up the oval office. So, can the President's handlers keep things sane for 4+ months? I guess we're gonna find out. After that, oh boy...

I guess that whole notion of Dark Brandon trying to steal the narrative that he was "challenging Trump to debates" is out the window now, isn't it? It was fun while it lasted
June 28, 20241 yr A good description of last night. https://www.yahoo.com/news/how-did-trump-and-biden-do-in-the-presidential-debate-3-takeaways-from-2024s-1st-big-clash-042242422.html Trump’s strategy was simply to spew more shallow superlatives than anyone could keep up with. His economy was "the greatest economy in the history of our country.” His environmental numbers were "the best environmental numbers ever.” His tax cut was "the largest tax cut in history.” Overturning Roe v. Wade was "something that everybody wanted.” And so on. The problem is that much of what Trump said was untrue. Biden tried to fact-check his opponent in real time. "I’ve never heard so much malarkey in my life,” Biden said after Trump accused him of enabling Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. "Every single thing he said is a lie,” Biden said after Trump attacked his position on veterans’ benefits. "It isn’t debunked,” Biden said when Trump tried to deny that Biden's 2020 run was inspired by the deadly white supremacist riots in Charlottesville, Va. three years earlier. "I ran because I was worried a guy like this could be president.” But Biden wasn’t deft enough to pivot from correcting falsehoods to making a clear, proactive case for his own campaign. And the debate’s polite new format — with each candidate’s microphone muted when it was the other’s turn to speak — didn’t do him any favors. Meanwhile, the moderators floated above the fray, declining to speak up and set the record straight — unlike in earlier, more fluid debates. As a result, Trump largely skated by on style, making little effort to appeal to swing voters who couldn’t care less about, say, Hunter Biden’s laptop.

They went back and forth on this one like a 12 shot tennis point but Biden clearly won the point by specifying the name of the bill and the numbers and what they bought with it and what it was for. That came on the back of clearly beating him on Ukraine and the global strength of NATO and punishing him again for Charlotsville comments. I dunno, I have read a couple unemotional takes that saw what I saw, Biden winning plenty of points in the back 2/3 of the debate. But the headline is Biden's short circuit meltdown in the opening minutes and I understand perfectly that debates often come down to that one big moment.

I think it's naïve to think Biden has made any consequential decisions at any point of this presidency. He's obviously declined further than anyone could imagine, but even in 2020, he was really bad.

I wouldn't lose sight with just how bad and diminished Trump looked as well, this was not the fire breathing dragon who took on Biden last time. As the night went on Trump devolved, couldn't specify anything, couldn't stay on track to answer a single question, and basically made all of his points on the backs of ridiculous BS testimonials. Agreed. I was talking up going to another candidate six months back but of course I was hoping Biden could somehow find some clarity and strength once that moment passed without change. It is 11th hour now but I can't see the Dems allowing him to go forward. I suspect they won't be very forthcoming with any info for a few days or maybe even a week or two as the pressure builds but in the end they are going to pull the plug on him.

If that someone is the President of the United States, the turmoil is magnified. That's my point. Nothing more.

That was the big one, but it set the tone for Biden rambling completely incoherently. It was actually a worse version of the Trump ramble. Trump will go off on tangents and speak in incomplete sentences at times, but you get the point he’s trying to make and sort of chalk it up as goofy Trump. Biden crossed the line from goofy old man into, "oh my God, don’t let that man cut his own steak,” territory because he was so incoherent.
