It was actually a worse version of the Trump ramble. Trump will go off on tangents and speak in incomplete sentences at times, but you get the point he’s trying to make and sort of chalk it up as goofy Trump. Biden crossed the line from goofy old man into, "oh my God, don’t let that man cut his own steak,” territory because he was so incoherent. Yeah, we will take your word for it as to what happened.

Trump sucked as we all knew he would but he clearly made a big gain last night due to just how horrible Biden was at just being present and aware.

I wish the US would go with a 4-2-3-1, Adams and McKennie in the double pivot, Reyna as the number 10, and use Josh Sargent at RW. He would do well in that role I think. Play farther back and let his energy and intelligence influence the game. In defense, collapse to a 4-4-2 with Pulisic and Balogun up top. He wouldn’t need to be the finisher or playmaker with Pulisic, Balogun and Reyna. Plus we would still have Pepi and Wright to bang in goals off the bench, and Weah could use his pace against tired defenders in the second half. Seems obvious to us, and yet US Soccer's exhaustive search led them right back to the genius of Gregg Berhalter.

Biden crossed the line from goofy old man into, "oh my God, don’t let that man cut his own steak,” territory because he was so incoherent. It was basically the first 20 minutes or so. Watching it in real time it felt like one of those baby races where one baby falls flat on his face and starts crying while the other one marches methodically to the half way point and everyone thinks its over. Then the lead baby just starts crawling in circles while the crying baby zigzags at a snails pace towards the finish line until he catches up. I came away thinking that IF Biden could be forgiven for that opening meltdown he'd come away with the draw, but that clearly wasn't the case.

This isn’t the Oxford Union. It’s a debate for a couple hundred million Americans to vote. It’s about impressions. Yes, the early short circuit was the biggest moment, but it was made worse because that framed the debate, and then every time Biden stuttered, stammered, momentarily lost his train of thought, spoke in a slow/raspy voice, etc. it was framed by that moment and confirmed the notion that the man is not there mentally. Right or wrong, fair or unfair, that’s how it plays to the public.
June 28, 20241 yr Biden did have some great answers and even better counters to trumps lies but his mental capacity will overshadow that

Not to mean you can't win on just style like Reagan used to, but Bill Clinton for example would whip your arse with well phrased substance. When Mitt Romney destroyed Obama in debate 1, he whipped him on BOTH. Granted Obama was playing with a much bigger room for error and had 2 debates later where he won, but I personally had this a much closer score than the pundits have it.

I was talking up going to another candidate six months back but of course I was hoping Biden could somehow find some clarity and strength once that moment passed without change. It is 11th hour now but I can't see the Dems allowing him to go forward. I suspect they won't be very forthcoming with any info for a few days or maybe even a week or two as the pressure builds but in the end they are going to pull the plug on him. They won't do it unless they know they have a unchallenged replacement to crown at the Dem Convention, if that happens they'll ask Obama to take Joe out to the woodshed, while somberly thanking Joe for his service but talking about a duty to the voters. If however they see a risk of say Bernie throwing his hat into the ring at a straight run off at the convention without the safety net of primaries to stage manage him out of the process, then they'll ride Biden into the abyss, because ultimately if the choice is between fascism and mild left wing reform, the Dem leadership will take 4 years of fascism thanks very much (albeit while making sad faces on the evening news).
