I had read an article with some information that I either never knew, or knew and had completely forgotten and that was that constitutionally, electors can't vote for two people from the same state for President/Vice-President. So if Biden were gone, Harris-Newsom can't happen (both from Ca). To the same point, Trump-Rubio  couldn't happen (both from Florida).

Whether that constitutional 'wrinkle' is true or not, I'm not 100% positive. But if it is, he was never going to be the pick.

As for who the pick would be, I had 3 names that I thought might get it. Vance, Youngkin or as a wildcard, Haley.

I didn't think that Younkin would be a bad pick, but not specifically a helpful one either. Haley would have been interesting and likely would have been a helpful one in the General.

I cant with Vance. I just automatically think of Vance refrigeration as soon as I see the name.

they're just so darned likeable and relateable...no wonder so many people love them...

I really don't know enough about JD Vance to get too excited about the pick one way or the other.  By all accounts he's a very smart guy, seems to say the right things but he doesn't have a long enough history to be that comfortable at this point.  He'll be a good, eloquent spokesman for the campaign though.

Isolationist, far right, and something just seems nasty about him.

It is because Article II states that an elector must cast 2 votes, and one must be for someone not from his state. Once the 12th Amendment was passed, each elector voted for a President and a VP (before that the 2nd place person was VP and both votes were for President), but Article II was left unchanged. So if Trump picked Rubio, then no FL elector could vote for Trump as President and Rubio as VP. If the election were close enough, it could mean that Rubio failed to get 270 votes.

The easy fix would have been for Rubio to move and register in another state. Cheney was a Texas resident when Bush picked him, so he moved back to Wyoming right before he was picked. Rubio would have needed to move and likely resign his Senate seat.

Interesting.  I haven't seen any of that yet.  Examples?

Wait, is the eye liner thing real? I thought it was a joke. Now I kinda hope it's real though so all the trumpbots we hate on athletes for painting their nails will now be forced to vote for a guy who wears eye liner.
