Trying to stay without the support of your own party seems foolish. It would be one thing if his approval rating was sky high and he could just blow off the "elites” but it’s not. I think it sucks that the party abandoned him, but they did. It’s over. If he’s on the ticket, I might just stay home at this point if I can’t vote by mail. He has no chance.

Seems very dumb when PA matters

Plus his eyeliner wearing trans VP pick.

The Gay Old Party is lit, yo!!!

That was, without a doubt, the worst convention speech I have ever seen, and probably the worst speech Trump has ever given. Basically, he followed the script for 10 minutes while he talked about the assassination attempt and talked about unity. Most commentators liked that part even though it seemed to suck all the life out of the building. But had he kept that up, and kept it under an hour, he would have been lauded for striking a new tone, reaching out to undecideds, and not risking his base by being boring because they worship him. But then...the next 82 minutes of ad-libbed, stream of consciousness rambling was a train wreck. Putting aside the lies, the mental flubs, the insane promises that reveal his ignorance (seriously, an American Iron Dome?), he was the one thing he can't be -- boring. He might as well have been low energy Don.

Most of America hasn't seen a Trump rally. They haven't seen his insane rambling and stream of consciousness BS. Normal people saw that for the first time last night, and well..."rambling" was the top trend on Twitter. After that debacle, we have an actual race again. Trump could have delivered a knockout blow last night but instead punched himself in the face...repeatedly.

I will give credit to Trump for being more subdue this time around. But this is must a matter of common sense. The man is in his mid 70's he's not changed; whatever we saw the first time around is probably going to be that X2 especially with the ruling from the supreme court and this being his last term.

Thankfully for him, no one was watching.  From what I've seen, their convention has gotten really low numbers.  Sad.

I heard that on the radio as well. Viewership wasn’t terribly significant. I don’t think undecided people on the sidelines really watch the convention for either side.

Add on the global IT crisis, the RNC has largely been bumped from media coverage today it seems.

I know some Republicans who didn't even watch the convention and only heard/saw highlights, especially about Hulk Hogan. Since we're in Idiocracy already, that's what people remember.

He went on until after midnight on the east coast. But the clips will live on Twitter and Youtube. It was so odd -- they amped the crowd up with Hogan, Kid Rock and Dana White (it worked for the audience), and then Donnie put them all to sleep.

For the most part, yeah, but if the Dems really do have a brokered convention or even just unveil Kamala as the new candidate, I think you'll see a pretty high viewership for the DNC.  With the RNC, the whole cult thing is, while funny, pretty played out at this point.  We're almost 10 years into the Trump show and most of the country just wants to change the channel.

seriously. all the Dems need to do is have a capable adult as a nominee and they'd be a shoe-in.

seriously, an American Iron Dome?

What was he even trying to say here? Who's launching rockets at us that we would need that? Is Hamas taking up residence in Windsor or Vancouver now?

The Iron Dome works on short range rockets. So...we're worried about rocket attacks from Canada and Mexico?

I know the Canadians are salty about losing the Stanley Cup, but...

Is that what he said? How is this not a bigger headline today? I swear the media has been functionally broken at this point.

He said we're going to build an Iron Dome for America. He has no idea that it only works on short range rockets. Because he is an effing imbecile who is bluffing his entire way through life. It's like the nuclear triad thing.

No matter how many examples we get that Trump is an ignorant fool, it never seems to matter.

Jesus how bad of a speech do you have to give to negate getting shot? That's wild.

Bed of nails. Say enough crazy crap and it's hard to focus on any one comment. It's his bread and butter.

His odds to win the election on bovada have dropped, from a high of -300 just after the attack, now down to -215, which is a stone's throw away from where it was at the beginning of the month (-180).

Pretty much

Also, this...

One more. Nate Silver couldn't even stay with him.

Which is absolutely bananas considering it hadn't even been a full week since he was almost assassinated in front of the whole country.

If the Canadians decided to invade Florida I'm not sure I'd object.

He says so many stupid things that at this point people are like "oh that's just Trump being Trump". It's no longer "news"; it's been normalized.

That should frighten anyone paying attention but human beings are horrible at risk assessment.

Didn't watch a single second of Trump's speech.  Was it boring, or was it typical Trump rambling?  Or both?

I know for a fact that some people in here wanted Biden, and said that he was perfect after Trump, BECAUSE he's boring.  So which is it - do we want boring or don't we?
