So Roe could have been codified in any of the intervening 50 years but Dems didn't do it and to illustrate that you bring up the Freedom of Choice act of 1993, a bill introduced by Dems and shut down by Republicans, designed to codify Roe?   By the way, the bill was also introduced in 1989, 2004 and 2007.

personally, i don't think michelle obama was ever in the mix. shapiro needs another election cycle before he run for the top spot, but i think he would be a wise choice for VP. 

if this decision were made earlier, the dems would've had more time to shift through the choices. but ............

In a vacuum maybe but not in reality.  The most important issue in any election is Democratic turnout.  She'll help there massively.  And any attempt to replace her at the top of the ticket would hurt there.  It's a no brainer.

Are you familar with American politics at all? When has that ever been true? Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc. My quality of life hasn't really ever been impacted by any President for as long as I've been alive. The only exception was the toxic rhetoric Trump used during covid that turned most of his supporters into a death cult that tried to pretend it was just a mild cold as they watched their older relatives die off to appease the ego of a reality game show host.

She is still the worst of the top names mentioned. We agree that passing her could be problematic, but for Trump it's still the easiest one compared to a Shapiro or Gretch. That doesn't mean he wins.

She presents way more challenges for Trump than any of the other ones you mentioned.   She forces him to go straight to the raycist/women hating stuff, which is an absolutely terrible path for someone who's hated as much as he is and who's problem is that Dem turnout is his kryptonite.

Hannity said the same thing in like 2012. I did listen to him back then commuting. I thought it would make your day to know you are on the same page as your favorite person.

Eh...obviously Michelle Obama would be the only guaranteed winner, but she clearly doesn't want the job. Newsom would be a debacle given all that is happening in California (read about Oakland in particular). Whitmer doesn't have a huge national profile. Shapiro -- I'm not sure how the Democratic base would react to a Jewish candidate (it's sad this is the case, but it is). 

Harris allows them to keep all the campaign cash. I think Shapiro as VP would be smart -- might hurt with the far left, but Harris is stronger there than Biden. If he can deliver PA, that's huge for her.

We are in completely uncharted territory here. So far, the Democratic enthusiasm is surprising, but it's kind of like a bad team getting a high draft pick -- they have hope again, but no idea if you got Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf. I've seen people calling it ~60/40 Trump, which feels right.
