eh. Kelly looks older frankly.

lot of younger guys have gray hair and hair loss, but you can see his face is still youthful (relative to his age) and he's energetic on camera. I'm not that concerned.

I would have liked Shapiro, but also glad we'll have him as our governor still. I don't hate the Walz pick.

shapiro's responsibility to get a recreational marijuana bill passed in pa supersedes any move to VP.

I think the Walz pick is fine, I'm mostly F'ing around. And yeah, agreed that Kelly wouldn't have played well on camera either. Him and Shapiro were my first preferences, but I don't mind Walz as the bronze medal winner.

The energy is coming from the far left, Shapiro would have stopped that in its tracks. The left loves Waltz and he's a guy who can make their platform palatable to widwestern rural types.

It's a national campaign you have to win

In some ways, but for Dems, the election has usually run through only 3 states. Get those three states and it's tough to find a pathway to lose.

I feel like some of the posters here are ahead of the curve.

Walz is a good pick. Pretty much anybody would be a good pick when standing across JD Vance.

You're so brave, but you still need a D in your arse if you want to say Fa***t.  rules are rules.

I get it, if the data said they absolutley had to take Shapiro I would have understood the choice.  I just think people are underestimating how good a closer Joe Biden is going to be for Pennsylvania, he's only going to have to stump for a few weeks and he'll do it as the hero that stepped down.

this. any of the top three would've been a good pick.

Democrats always make the wrong decision.  I hate being in a party this perpetually dumb.

man, you really know these rules well.

My biggest fear here was that they were going to go with Bashear or someone else who's terrible on camera.  That would've been the Hilary move, picking someone who looks good on paper but can't actually get it done under the lights.  Walz and Shapiro were both strong in that regard so thankfully that wasn't a concern as the process played out, but for whatever reason (cough * antisemitism * cough) the far left was going to implode if it was Shapiro.  And if that had happened, Harris may have lost momentum.

Her #1 job here was to keep that momentum going, whereas Trump's #1 job was to appeal to people who think he's an un-serious radical.  Trump obviously failed at his job (what else is new) but I think Harris nailed hers.

And Shapiro's a better bet on the top of a ticket one day.  Hard to project this far out, but I could see him running in '32 against a big field and consolidating the moderate vote.  This process has only raised his profile.

You'd think smoking a pole would be a lifetime pass, it's only good for like 3 years. That's not even a passport!

I could see him running in '28 against an incumbent Harris. The Jewish thing was absolutely a factor.  So was Shapiro's ambition.

Incumbent primary challengers are a joke.  No serious contender wants that on their record.  He'll have to wait until '32.

agreed, unless harris is a complete failure, there's no way he runs against her in '28.

This paints the lead in PA and WI as almost identical, but for reference, in 2020 Biden won PA by 1.2 pts while he only had a 0.6 pt margin in WI.

Really like the pick and I think Harris played it perfectly.  Teasing Shapiro and pivoting to Walz will gin the base.  Harris has much better political instincts than I would've thought.  And Walz is great on camera and has a solid background as a vet and a former teacher.

Lol I think you would have liked the pick no matter who she selected

The overarching message with Waltz is that Harris wants to keep it upbeat.  Harris at her best is is all giggling admonishments, Waltz is a really f'ing funny dude who explains the sausage in laymen terms a la Bill Clinton.  But as a prosecutor and a teacher they can get technical so they are going to be smiling and laughing their way through some serious topics while Trump quintuples down on rage and grievance and totalitarian abstractions.

That's the strategy and I like it.
