It's so crazy to me that "they read a speech" is what MAGA considers to be a solid punch. I give presentations for a living. I bring notes or use a Keynote to guide me, and I go off-script a little just so it sounds more natural. I don't know if these guys are pumping gas for a living or what, but generally in a professional environment you have some form of preparation before giving an important presentation. You don't just wing it like open mic night at a comedy show. That's how you end up saying that veterans have been "hit too many times by bullets, or are dead" when discussing medals of honor.

You're going to be able to find a handful of clips of them stumbling over their words or saying the wrong name etc. Obama was arguably one of the best orators in recent US politics and yet with 2 minutes of searching the internet you can find this: They used to use the same "off script he doesn't know what he's saying!" line in him. Listen to a full speech from Kamala and a full speech from Trump. Preferably several. Then come talk to me about "word salad" and "dei hires".

The problem is I don't see his hardcore maga loyalists accepting/acknowledging another candidate. They'd either stay home, or more like go out to protest and write in Trump. And there's enough of them that fall into that category that it could seriously handicap another Republican candidate in a national election. They need Trump to either die or endorse another candidate. One of those things seems very unlikely.

As long as he's lurking around, the primaries are his. In order to change that, the GOP needs to aggressively purge the weirdos, speaking some harsh truths to them. Then maybe the more normal conservatives start thinking "Hey, maybe we're getting back to real-life policies." and start voting for (or winning elections as) regular republicans. It's one way or the other way. You can't straddle the line between MAGA crazies and regular people who lean conservative.
