Your optimistic self is consistent in all things. Tech is not a train wreck. Job growth within the tech sector is still growing faster than other sectors. There is a huge investment going into the AI technology transition that will both help and hurt other sectors of the economy and the one ailing area is startup capital because money is expensive right now -- for all sectors but tech startups rely more on this than most. I think polling people who were recently let go might skew the results one way, possibly.

You are f'ing full of crap. The people at CISCO and Intel who just got let go will tell you the same. All the devs about to lose jobs thanks to AI will say the same. I'm not polling people I'm one of them and have many friends from the Big 5 to small startups who have as well. You people can tell me I'm wrong on a lot of things and I'll usually say I'm open to being wrong, but when I'm living it I don't want to hear crap.

cisco got too bloated while rival's tech caught up to and/or exceeded their own. luckily our company's portfolio is diverse enough to deal with the dip in business from them.

Maybe the folks being let go are dead wood. Its a dynamic sector. The Devs about to lose their jobs are the ones not embracing the multiplier affect of AI for their work. The creative ones will be in great demand. The code sloggers will not. It happened with accounting as well with the rise of online tax filing programs. Their is always change going on, it doesn't mean the sector is tanking. It means that it is highly competitive.

Well, he is a convicted felon. I agree, that is disgusting. Not Biden, but a convicted felon candidate is disgusting beyond belief.

Looking forward to Day 2. Biden Rocked out last night. :D

That's IT. Always has been. As someone mentioned earlier, innovation makes people redundant. You have to keep up.

Yeah, which will probably happen sooner than later, but it's not fun when you have been in tech forever.

Yeah it’s not fun and tbh, it’s scary making job/career changes. I’ve made more in the past 12 years or so, than I did the previous 30. All but 1 was a huge mistake, but I was able to get my old job back with a nice boost in pay so it worked out.

All BSing aside, know it’s rough for many people, and that I lose sight of that at times. I’m really close to retirement, the house is paid off, no car loans….  I forget the sheet I went through to get here. Good luck to you, I’m sure you will come out ahead.

True. Doesn't mean tech isn't a dumpster fire right now. I'm not crying that I lost my job but I also don't to hear people say the economy is great. Some may be doing alright, but many are in deep crap right now.

RFK Jr. has always been an agent of the Trump campaign, knowingly or not.  He was always going to bleed more support from Trump; his policies are idiotic, he's a conspiracy nut, and an anti-vaxxer who probably thought Trump did a good job during COVID.

She's just stating the obvious as far as when they figured out they were helping the Democrats they suddenly sit there and say "we have to think about leaving the race".  But she's full of B.S. when she tries to say that there's motivation to stay in to "build a third party" -- neither of them have any interest at all in building a movement; they're interested in money and notoriety.  All the two of them are doing is taking their masks off; Kennedy doing a sit down with Roseanne Barr (of all people) and now Shanahan saying outright she supports Trump.  Astute people recognized that as soon as RFK Jr. said Biden and Trump were "equally bad".

She's remarkably 'un-bright'.  Did 95% of her wealth come from that divorce settlement?

Good point.  She said to "throw" the Dems on one side, presumably out west, then the Conservatives can have the midwest and the entire east, so I guess that leaves MAGA in Alaska.  Actually, I think that works for me.

You are a good guy, and I appreciate that. I'll be fine. I was lucky to have a great job for a long time, and thankfully, I'm still in a place to take care of myself and the two kids I took in.

I understand, man. It's tough but skilled workers in IT normally do not stay unemployed long. I'm wishing you all the best for a short search.

It's honestly pretty wild that they're considering pulling out.  It's not like he's polling well but compared to most 3rd party runs he is.  RFK's polling anywhere from 5-7%.  If that held, he'd have more 3rd party votes than anyone since Perot.  The fact that they're thinking about dropping out is all the proof you need that he and Trump planned on him tanking the Dems but it's all backfired.
