GOP in 2024:  we have to nominate Trump because he’s the only one who can beat Biden

Dems in 2024:  Biden has to run again because he’s the only one who can beat Trump

We are screwed. How come we can’t do any better than Trump, Clinton, and Biden as our candidates? At least Biden already has a track record of beating Trump in an election. WTF are Republicans thinking?

The GOP is demanding Trump, and no one but Trump. They will accept nothing else, and will change their own rules to make him their king.

Why the Dems are sticking with Biden, is a mystery to me. I guess the party muck-mucks feel he is their best shot, which is telling.

Why would this possibly be a mystery to you?  How many times has an incumbent President been replaced as his party's nominee?  How many times has he even been seriously challenged?

Given how well he polls against a 91 x indicted guy ought to give the party pause, you might think.

Polls are largely meaningless.  He beat the sheet out of that 91x indicted guy before he had 91 indictments.

And replacing Biden would've meant moving further to the left.  A recipe for defeat.  No thanks.

That's the second part no one can answer - if you dump Biden, then who is the nominee?

Newsom? He'd get smoked as he is buried with all the insanity in CA.

Whitmer? She has no national profile and Trump will savage her.

There's not an actual candidate named "Generic Moderate Democrat"

I could see them making a move if they had a winner set up at VP whom they could seamlessly pivot towards, but Kamala ain't it.  I'd love a better candidate too but it's not exactly bad political strategy to stick with the incumbent.

And I would argue that re-nominating Trump isn't that stupid either for the GOP.  Mostly because if they didn't he would neuter any other candidate they put up right out of the gate.  He has them by the short and curlies and they know it.

Newsom's a really skilled politician but California's a pretty massive albatross around his neck.

And Whitmer wouldn't have a shot.  Putting aside the fact that she's a woman and there's roughly a 0% chance that a Dem woman will ever be elected President, she has no lane.  She's not far left enough to separate herself from Biden and Biden already occupies the moderate lane.  There's was just never anyway anyone but a far left loon would have had a shot at the Dem nod and F nominating a far left loon.

Newsom is smart enough to wait for 2028. Gives him distance from the CA insanity, and he's likely running against either DeSantis or another Trump imitation.

I think DeSantis is done.  He should never have gotten in this cycle.  It was obvious from the get-go that a cheap imitation Trump couldn't go toe-to-toe with the real thing.  Now he's only gonna embarass himself if he gets in in 28.

Haley, on the other hand, was smart to get in this cycle because she's a reasonable alternative who, under normal circumstances would've been too boring to compete.  But being boring is a good thing if you're going against Trump.  She'll still probably be out of the race in a couple weeks but this was the best shot she had.

Some of us non-Democrats are amazed that this is the reality.

DeSantis proved that he can't hide the fact that he's a massive weirdo

Biden basically said he wouldn't be running if Trump wasn't the nominee.

Call me a citizen of Idiocracy but I am totally down for a Trump/Haley live TV IQ test Brain-Off.

Honestly this could be Haley's opening.  Screw the decorum, take the gloves off and spend the rest of your campaign challenging him to an IQ test.
