October 4, 20241 yr Let's just clear up something else while we're at it -- this idea that Trump is going to bring prices down. First off, he has articulated no plan for that, and the few plans he has talked about would dramatically increase inflation (higher tariffs, lower rates). More importantly - a reduction in prices is deflation, which is catastrophically worse for the economy than inflation. Japan's experienced deflation for decades, which leads to lower growth. People spend less because they know prices will go down, the economy contracts, and unemployment spikes. Deflation almost always ends in recession of depression. Inflation is now at around 2%, 3% excluding food and energy. 2% is a normal, healthy level for inflation. This idea that prices are going to go back down...it's idiotic.
