But I feel like this is the same thing I said a couple weeks ago. their plan was we’re gonna run it back in 23-24 with the main core (unless they get a star package in a trade) with Nick nurse and see where the chips fall. Likely not good enough still. But when the season is over they will have a ton of cap space and flexibility for the 2024 off-season. it would be the first time since 2019 when they signed Al Horford and extended Tobias and Ben Simmons that they would have that type of flexibility and cap. I 100% that’s the plan and what was sold to Joel Embiid. 

that said, I think there’s a more significant chance it doesn’t work and blows up in their face. But I’m guessing they view it as a better way then trying to build up a 23-24 roster that they likely believed wasn’t good enough even if they added 1-2 pieces

You don't want to be. They both will ask for extensions and barely play at this point. Kawhi's quad is done and would bet money it is atrophing.

They didn't want to throw in Thybulle and/or other pieces for Haliburton

I wouldn't especially Kawhi. He just had his torn meniscus surgery on top of quad injury and ACL tear. 

Team doesnt know when he wants to play, when he was getting that ACL surgery, heck they didn't know he needed surgery, his rehab. He is the top of the food chain prima donna.

I’d guess morey and the sixers they don’t want Powell as he has three years at $54 million left. If they take on Powell it decreases some of their  flexibility and cap in the 2024 season.

I’d add you’d be doing the clippers a favor because they put out there just before free agency they wanted to unload Powell due to second apron and financial implications. So they’d help the clippers taking powell’s contract and hurt their cap flexibility in 2024. I’m guessing they’d want to be compensated for doing such as they likely think mann is mandatory in any harden trade anyway. 

It’s more realistic they’d want Covington, Mann, morris/batum and a pick(s) for harden as it keeps their 2024 flexibility and cap open. Likely not getting a pick or picks unless they are like swaps or second rounders

I think their ultimate goal in the 2024 off-season is to get Pascal Siakam.  I think it makes embiid happy

In that case Clippers can go pound sand. Do not want Powell without picks and Mann. Rather they just let Harden walk after year end in that case.

I was going to mention Whitmore won some league MVP because he was one of the guys I was dating I would actually trade Maxey for to get a top 7 pick. 

I figured I'd let it go. But now it's relevant.  Interesting that the 6ers were interested. Not surprised they failed.

I still say Harden for Siskam, Harris for LaVine. Instant contender.

 the week before the harden situation blew up, was a report the clippers (someone made the mistake of leaking out) they wanted someone to take on Powell’s contract due to financial implications of the second apron. 

Powell’s contract isn’t a bad contract for what he is especially with cap going up. the issue is the sixers want as much flexibility and cap as possible for the 2024 offseason. That’s pretty obvious part of their plan. You could trade powell next off-season but you would have to do it before free agency so you would have maximum space going into FA. I think teams would know that and team with the space just to take on that contract will ask for some sort of asset to just take on the salary otherwise have to match salary to do it. 

Powell the player would be a solid addition. Powell’s contract makes it harder to have the flexibility and cap they want to go into the 2024 offseason. And the clippers putting out they wanted someone to take him on due to second apron implications. 

I'm starting to hate morey more than harden at this point
