You can still play zone behind a blitz.

It depends if you are sending 5,6,7, or even 8 in a zero blitz.

Its hard to believe they lined up Metellus on AJ in a man situation but I guess they could have forced it with scheme and motion?

Jalen Hurts playing well last couple games.

I have not been his biggest supporter.

Another highly efficient game.

Last week Jalen has a perfect passer rating, nd by the end of the week they were trashing him on WIP. Now this week he throws 4tds. What will the haters trash him for by Friday. A bye week to boot!?! The haters will be calling for McKee by Election Day.

Hurts Update: Career Passer Rating

The two reigning 2024 QB MVPs came into the season at the same career 93.9 passer rating.

18 - Rivers 95.2

19T - Allen 93.9

19T - Hurts 93.9

21 - Warner 93.7

8 weeks later:

18 - Hurts 95.6

19 - Rivers 95.2

20 - Allen 94.0

21 - Warner 93.7

Note: Hurts has a higher % of his career being in year 1 and year 2 (year 1 as a starter) compared to guys like Allen.

QBs besides Dak ramp up after year 1 and 2. Dak started at 104.9 and its been about 97.6 since. (thanks to Dak stats)

Since the start of 2022, Hurts is a 99.5 rated passer (Burrow 101.5) (Mahomes 98.0) (Allen 97.2) (Lamar 107.8) (Stafford 94.5) (Goff 104.1)

Since the start of 2024, Hurts is a 107.7 rated passer. (Burrow 107.6) (Mahomes 96.3) (Allen 102.0) (Lamar 121.5) (Stafford 98.6) (Goff 113)

FYI, this dip spit was calling Tom Brady washed up and a game manager from about 2013 on...

Morons don't stop because reality proves them to be morons.

I can't wait for Hurts to get paid again, so he can really be done.

BREAKING NEWS Bo Nix leads the NFL in total TDs with 21 ... cough, in 10 games.

He is tied with Stafford (8 games) and Mahomes (9 games)

SHHHHHH! Don't say who has 20 in 8 games. We hate him and his mean fans! Let me tell you what happened 57 years ago instead!

One time a bunch of Vikings fans went to Philly with middle fingers raised yelling 'FU!"... and the Eagles fans were not nice to them!

Sure, 20 TDs in 8 games would be really good but they were "limited QB" 20 TDs. They still count for 6 and they still lead to wins but so limited...

You know how 8 times a week you watch a QB throw a 3rd down pass into traffic in the middle of the field and 3 defenders have a chance at a pick or a pick on a deflection...

He throws those passes less! I can make a chart that shows his good passes are more outside! I really got him! I am the hero of statistics! I saved the world from the "limited" Eagles QB!

Personally, I would think having to rely on up to 30% of your passes at or behind the line of scrimmage would define limited QB. That's college garbage.

Why be like Steve Young, Favre, Warner, or Marino when you could be like Matt Leinart?

Its OK with making all the easy throws and losing. You can make the tough throws at the bullseye robots in the pro bowl games while Hurts is prepping for the Super Bowl.

I wish there was a Next Gen stat for how far QBs throw the ball down the field on average. We could call the ones outside the top 15 or so "limited QBs"

How about another next gen stat that shows how difficult their throws are... I wonder what QB is year in and year out in the elite top of both stats?

Maybe its the morons who are limited?

Imagine if Stafford or Mahomes was about to play back to back games vs a division and they had a career undefeated record vs that division (8-0 record (9-0 counting playoffs)) as a starter.

We'd hear that stat 20 times a day. Shhhh! We hate Philly!

If you only looked at 2 stats to define how good a season a QB is having as a passer, these are probably the best.

Yards per attempt

TD to INT ratio

Mahomes 2018-2022 was the GoaT for a QB as a starter years 2-5 (he did not play much year 1)

His YPA was 8.1

His TD to INT was 192 to 48 -- 4 to 1

Mahomes 2023-present is a shell of himself.

His YPA is 7.0

His TD to INT is 70 to 30 -- 2.33 to 1

Hurts 2024-present

His YPA is 8.0

His TD to INT is 33 to 6 -- 5.5 to 1

2024-now Hurts is playing like GoaT Mahomes... as a passer.

This is the all-time list for YPA

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_yds_per_att_career.htm

The list above 8.0 is very small. Young led the league in YPA 4 years in a row and 5 out of 7.

We like to make fun of Jimmy G but look at the 49ers records with and without him during those seasons.

29-35 overall from 2017-2020 22-8 with Garropolo 7-27 without him.

Kurt Warner just missed out on 8.0 with 7.9 (probably because of 9 games on the Giants) but he was 8.6 as a Ram.

Go to the career page for Drew Brees. Sort by YPA... now watch almost all of those 7-9 or 8-8 seasons fall to the bottom.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BreeDr00.htm

This is nuts:

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/tam/2019.htm

That is the Jameis 33 30 season. He was at 8.2 ypa. They lost 6 games by 1 score, 2 of them in OT.

If he was 33 24 that year, they could have easily won 10 or 11 games.

Joe Burrow got to a Super Bowl in 2021. He led the league in YPA at 8.9

The rest of his career he is around 11th or 12th in YPA every year.

2024 Hurts had 3500+ yards 32 TDs with a 100+ rating and 12 wins as a QB. (He did not try for win 13 and more stats because they did not need game 17)

Has another QB in NFL history had a season like that and been insulted all year?

I think it rises to the level of propaganda. Its a weird combo:

  • They really hate Philly.

  • They really trashed the draft pick and were dead wrong.

  • They really got hung up on the Tua thing in college.

  • They really can't add rushing yards to passing yards and rushing TDs to passing TDs. (unless its their special boy, Josh Allen)

  • They have been told to hate the Tush Push and insist its not because Hurts is the strongest athlete to ever play the QB position.

  • They sniff at the altar of PFF and QBR which are all pretend statistics (actual TDs are worth less to them than EPA predicted TDs)

Watch that 67.8 rated SB joke QB Matt Hasselbeck talking about Hurts after the Super Bowl.

He insists on bringing up the interception.

He has to qualify the incredible game by talking about how Hurts was playing with a lead.

Never in my life have I heard a qualifier that Joe Montana or Peyton Manning or Tom Brady or Mahomes or Allen were playing with a lead. Not once.

I was waiting for him to say that Hurts can't read defenses.

He just looks like he hates his life having to say something good about Jalen Hurts.

He knows that Hurts is better than he ever was and it just kills him.

2024 Hurts averaged 206.7 passing yards in the 14 starts where he did not leave early with a concussion.

Hurts 206.7 + his 42.1 rushing was 248.8.

Stafford averaged 235.1 and 2.6 for 237.7

Herbert averaged 227.6 and 18 for 245.6

Herbert and Stafford were elite.

Hurts was a freeloader... at more yards per game.

Allen at 266.4 combined was MVP. 17 1/2 yards per game drops you from MVP to freeloader?

Counting his joke start week 18 game so he can keep some kind of start record, Allen averaged 219.5 yards per game.

The MVP voters don't care about passing yards per game. They just care when its Jalen Hurts.

Soft spot for Wentz? Pshht. Please remember how bent out of shape he was went we drafted Hurts. Instead of declaring that he welcomed all competition, he moped and pushed his way out of town.

I have nothing but contempt for him.

He was having an MVP caliber year in 2017 and was a key to the team getting the 1 seed. The haul Howie managed to get for trading him resulted in key players for the Eagles next SB win. He never recovered from that Clowney hit, he was basically a shell of himself after that.

Anyway, back on topic, if Hurts has a month of play like he did the last couple of weeks he could potentially add regular season MVP to his SB MVP

Wentz also did some serious work in 2019. That was not a great team and he willed them to the playoffs.

He's a mess now and he got injured often but 2017 and 2019 are a couple gold stars.

I cant find playoff TD to INT anywhere so I did some research. Here are the guys at or above 2.0 that I could find.

Hurts had a magical season last year and what he did for the franchise will be immortalized. He earned the silence in criticism until now. It’s time to face the reality that he is a great game manager, but he isn’t elite. He has had the luxury of elite playmakers around him. The excuse making for him (OC, Oline, etc, etc) should stop.

Needs to be benched

Get this bum out of Philly. I’d rather be a bad team with no expectation than a bad team with great ones.

They needed to bench him at halftime to give them any chance to win that game. With him at QB this offense is going nowhere this season. And I know benching him likely ends his time in Philly but like you have to do right by the time the rest of the way?

Obviously this was a terrible game and there is no point defending Jalen after that. While I know he can play better, right now whenever we throw, I'm not very confident at all. If we absolutely have to throw, my expectations are low. The offense deserves no days off between games. They get enough rest during the games.
