Quite possible. In the hockey playoffs, you can win the Cup as an 8 seed.

Yep.  If your goalie gets hot and stands on his head in the playoffs, watch out.

Yup.

Younger people will never understand the 2002 loss to the Bucs. There is no close 2nd to worse loss in my lifetime.

'08 against the Cardinals was up there too, even though they weren't as good as a team as the '02 one. Dawkins' last season, Jim Johnson passed away that summer, and they had beaten Pittsburgh earlier in the season so would have had a good shot in that Super Bowl. That team felt like the end of an era and their last shot, especially for McNabb. He was done a year later.

For me I was also living in the Tampa area at the time and had to watch a bunch of bandwagon fans who never watched football before buying up jerseys and celebrating.  They didn't deserve it.

Before that game... the most frustrating loss I watched live is probably the MNF "Tommy Hutton fumble".   IYKYK.

The Fog Bowl, of course, sits as likely the most frustrating/maddening.

That's why Mayor Kenney should have commissioned a parade in Februrary for the Eagles. The Eagles didn't lose the Super Bowl, it was stolen from them. A boss of a mayor would've had his own Lombardi Trophy made and had a parade anyway so the city could celebrate the Eagles. You shouldn't allow corrupt referees and a joke of a field overseer to dictate your happiness. The 2022 Eagles are every bit the champions the Chiefs are and the NFL arbitrary engraving the Chiefs names in a trophy or refs declaring them their champions after the final whistle doesn't change objective truth.

It would've been the biggest boss move if he did that in the history of planet earth. Better than Spartacus' uprising.

That was a very tough loss.  That team looked so good going into that game and then - bam.  I was in denial for almost a week after that game.  Complete shock.

Watched the re-run of the last game on NFL Network.  On the last series when the Seahawks had the ball, under 2 min and 80 yards or so to go, our defense could not protect a 4-pt lead!  That really made you losing confidence on this team as a good team.  What they could do now to right the ship?  Heads will roll, if not right away, in the off-season?

To me, nothing has and probably will never be as painful as that 2002 loss at the Vet in term of sports. That was supposed to be our year and it should have been a Hollywood ending, instead of a horror show.
If possible, I would rather have had the Eagles win the SB then instead of 2017/18.

That was gut wrenching for quite some time.

i think this year is one of the most frustrating years though, when you look at the season. We have a good record, but haven’t played one damn good game all around. With all the expectations and the talent on offense it’s just extremely frustrating week in and week out.
Of course it’s not heartbreaking like some of the losses in big games, but throughout a season I can’t remember feeling this aggravated by their play.

For me, I would've picked 2008. Dawk is my all-time favorite player of any sport ever. It was his last season here, towards the end of his career, and would've been a crowning acheivement for one of the most passionate dudes to ever put on a uniform.

The 2008 loss was the one for me.

Obviously, being from the UK, the loss at  the Vet to Tampa didn't mean quite the same.

I completely understand how hard that must've been for you all though.

(Was enough for me that the Buccs,  the BUCCS, could win it all. Seemed impossible as they'd always been a joke of a team 🤷‍♂️).

But 2008, honestly thought it was the Eagles time.

Way they backed in, going to Minnesota and New York and winning well......

Yeah, I was gutted with how the Arizona game went, couldn't believe they lost.

And the Bucs had never won a playoff game where the temp was below freezing. So many things were in our favor that day and then it went straight downhill after our opening Duce TD…

An underrated playoff loss:

1996 Wildcard

14-0 at SF

Mud Bowl

60 mph winds

Eagles actually outgained the 49ers. But had a missed FG and two costly INTs in the red zone by Ty Detmer. Should have pound the rock more with Ricky Watters.

Both were brutal.  That '08 loss was worse for me because we were at that game.  Got jumped at halftime in the bathroom so I watched the 2nd half with 2 black eyes.  Thought we had them only to lose in the end.  The walk out was tough

And we already smoked them in the regular season that same year

I think off-season is when the changes will be made if this current trajectory holds.  Nick will stay head coach, but the coordinators will change.  I think we would see two experienced coordinators brought in as OC and DC.

As frustrating as some of these seasons can be, we have a Super Bowl.

It's different now.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's because I'm older now, or that my kids have made me realize there are things far more important in life to worry about, or the fact that we did finally get that title five years ago, but I generally handle these losses far better than I would have a decade or two ago. I used to be an absolute maniac before, during, and after games. I know that fan is short for fanatic, but I embodied it far more literally than I should've. Just wasn't a healthy way to appreaciate what should be a hobby or form of entertainment.

Phillies first spring training game is in 66 days. RTK is really excited

Yup.   My fandom passion has absolutely paled over the past two decades (my son turns 18 in 2 months).  And, I've lost friends and family to death.  Somehow the loss of a football game doesn't compare to any of that.   Just grateful that I was able to share a Super Bowl victory with some of them before the end came.

The closing of the Vet made it worse for me, even though I was never able to watch a game there. All the history and stories that had to do with that stadium made it sickening when it had to be closed in that type of way. Dawk could’ve had his SB back then already.

2008 was bad because it seemed like destiny that we would end up in the SB, defying the odds etc. And in old Eagle fashion, we came up just a little short.

2002 was the worst loss of my lifetime with the eagles. Only thing close was joe Carter hitting a walk off homer to beat the Phillies in game 6 of the ws

100% the same for me.  Above all, I've realized at the end of the day that the vast majority of these players don't give a single hair off a rat's ass about the fans.

I'm more down on the Phillies than I am Eagles and Sixers tbh. They're winning nothing with that lineup as currently constructed. And Nola and Wheeler aren't getting any younger.

Here's one thing I'll guarantee though: they'll be better than the Dodgers.
