What can go wrong? This team is the most trainwreck of a 10-4 team I've ever seen.

I went to my dispensary today because I’m not letting them ruin the remainder of my Christmas after losing to My Cousin Vinny.

You can't change a scheme at the end of a season lol.

Better chance at what? Only way that play works is if aj catches it and he had two defenders on him. If he doesn’t catch it it wasted like 8-9 seconds and only play left is a shot to the end zone. Or it ends like it did. Only positive play on that is if aj comes down with it against 2 defenders. I’ll take my chances with smith 1 on 1 where he has  creates a lot of space then Aj going against a double team on a deep pass

based off what sirianni just said they wanted a PI call in situation. If that’s the case dumb when you just need 15 yards for a field goal and multiple timeouts

Yep, the correct read is to Smitty. The safety is on the near side hashes, clearly shading to AJ, so you take your chances with Smitty on the out singled up against the corner with no possible help from the safety. Not gonna kill him for missing Gainwell who is the third read after releasing, but 10 times outta 10, you gotta go to Smitty in that situation.

I know on the surface it sounds dumb, but it’s too late in the year to install his own defense. He can add some wrinkles, but he’s pretty much going to have to run Desai’s play sheet with some wrinkles.

Now if that was how this offense works... you would be on to something. You know damn well that's not it lol. Going up top to AJ was the call and they're sticking with it lol.

Such a horrible excuse

And people are really blaming the QB for that ish show.

As they should be. You honestly think Sirianni got on the mic and told Hurts "Make sure you force this ball to AJ even if the safety is shading that way, that way we might get a DPI call" ? Of course not, he's clearly covering for Hurts. Again, not everything about the poor play of the offensive side of the ball can be attributed to the QB, but on this particular play? Yes, we are blaming the QB for it.

This isn't a problem. I know there's a lot of people here who are super old hat, but this is simply based on the problem presented. Not sure if you heard the reports, but the players apparently like Desai overall - they think he's actually pretty smart schematically. They just have had issues with his calls on gameday. But for players, unlike fans, there's 6 days of work in a week. It's not just gameday, it's all the preparation beforehand too.

So for that reason, they're handing over calls to someone else and making a more collaborative structure.

I'm pretty sure I already know the problem. Desai mirrors Sirianni and that's why he was hired here. Sirianni is first and foremost a teacher. People seem to not understand this, but it should be noted just how many more players we have being developed than any other era in the 20XX's. Reid was not good with developing players with us - we only rarely got late round picks or mid round picks that turned into substantial players. Ditto for Chip. Ditto for Doug.

But now we have all kinds of players developing into making contributions. Why is that?

It's because teaching is an emphasis. Desai was likely hired because of that same thing. But of course, schematics (X's and O's) are important too, and that was overlooked a bit. But this isn't really a problem if you recognize it and adjust accordingly to support that structure. That's effectively what this does. It's unorthodox but not really all that weird if you consider that they only dislike the stuff on gameday from Desai.

I think Nick just worded it weirdly, he probably just means that the gameday play-calls are Patricia's and he holds the final say there.

Edit: If you read the reports that first talked about Patricia getting calls, it mentions that the players like Desai and think he's good at the mental part of the game, but don't like that he doesn't 'carry himself with confidence' which we can assume extends to his play-calling based on how Patricia called the game. Context for those who missed it.

Watching the Washington game, it looked like Hurts audibled to the AJ go route.

I think 99% of what Nick says is BS in these press conferences to protect the players and other coaches.

Without a doubt, 1000%

They can stick all the colors up their asses.  INCLUDING the vaunted Kelly green, which can S my D today.  They should have to wear scarlet LOSERS on their jerseys.

   An eagles fan saying the color Kelly Green can suck his D today is objectively the funniest thing I've read in a while.

We'll beat the Giants, we're playing bad but not that bad.

Is that little Jon Marks?

Part of me wonders if they don’t really have any clue on how to use motion to generate advantages and they just implemented it pointlessly to combat criticism.

Eh, that's not entirely accurate. Short motions like that at least help to indicate man v zone. Even in man though, defenders might pattern match so realignment isn't always gonna be a tell, but no movement whatsover can be mean the chances of zone are higher than what you might've expected pre-motion, and a defender following motion means a higher chance of man. Not a 100% guarantee (as we saw, this ends up being cover-3 seems like), but something to consider. Yes, crossing the QB is a better indicator, but it's not as worthless of a motion as the tweet impies. Many teams utilize short motion like this, including the Niners (but to a lesser extent.)

This makes me feel better.  Could you do the offense now for me too as I am having a bad day. 😁
