Not comparable situations due to the nature of the sports. And evaluating the quality of a player based on playoffs is overrated anyway.

Can anyone tell me who the OC is for the league best 49ers?

Christian McCaffrey

He’s also won two mvps. And likely gets to a second ws if guys around him didn’t completely disappear which also effects him.

The blog when they were winning: Who cares what the coach says in press conferences, it's coach speak, means nothing, nobody pays attention.

The blog after losses:  OMG Nick's comments in the press conferences aren't giving confidence, did you hear his horrible answers? He should be fired during this press conference!

SF lost OC Mike McDaniel to the Dolphins for the 2022 season.  They had no OC in 2022 and lost their passing game coordinator, the closest thing they had to an OC, Bobby Slowik to the Texans as OC.

Is their offense reeling?  Is Purdy having a regression year?

Brian Johnson may not be good, but the angst is misplaced on him.  The coach/QB combo aren’t getting it done and it’s not a green OC’s fault.

I still think it's the change of the QB coach. It's kind of strange that when the change happened everyone thought he'd be doing great because Brian would be able to tailor the offense even more to Hurts since they're close

Plus with the talent on offense it's really frustrating how Nick and Brian can't create a top offense

I don't understand when I see comments about Sirianni making bad play calls.

Last I knew he doesn't call plays.

Nick isn’t a scheme guy in the way Andy, McVay, and Shanahan are.  He’s a teacher/psychologist/emotional intelligence locker room coach.  That’s why I believe the next coordinators need to be experienced X and O guys

For whatever reason Hurts isn't playing good.   That has alot to do with offensive struggles.  Not taking blame from BJ or Sirianni but if Hurts isn't seeing guys open, making wrong reads or just forcing it to AJ its not helping.

The offense would probably be better and we wouldn't be criticizing it as much if Jalen would find the open guys, make quicker decisions and hit a check down or easy throw once in awhile.

I think part of that is coaching. He was doing all of that last year so we know he can do it

True, but have you noticed how poor the Eagles tackle early on in the year? Has to be some relation to how they practice.

They prioritize health early on. Considering how banged up they got this year I don't mind that.

Gotta love the media and fans after losses. Annoying as all hell.

This game is only fun when you’re winning.

Let's fight for years for the kelly green and wear it twice, great

Be honest with yourself... the FANS fought for years for the Kelly Green, not the Eagles.  I think Lurie still prefers the black, and I think that he only did the Kellys because he saw it as a huge money maker.   And now keeping the black too... more $$.

Shanahan.

Is there anyone that thinks that Sirianni even holds a candle to Shanahan in terms of X's and O's?

Yes, and past the age that other teams will try to steal them to be their next young ascending HC.

Nope.

But no one in the league thought that. Even Steichen didn't have that reputation last year.

Nobody was ever mistaking Sirianni for a Mike McDaniel or Kyle Shanahan. He's never been known for his in-depth schematic creativity in the same way those guys are. And pragmatically speaking, you just can't fire or demote the coach of a 10-4 team who is still in contention for the #2 seed.

Likewise, you can't really bench the QB of that same team for similar reasons given who's available to replace him with. But demoting the OC and handing over some of his duties to someone like Frank Reich is absolutely on the table and frankly should've happened already. It's the one lever we can still pull right now which is obviously why you're hearing so much about it. So no, it's not misplaced angst, it's just the only worthwhile proposal that has any realistic shot of happening.

If you want to feel better about our personnel and worse about coaching...

I'd argue that luck has a lot to do with health too. They took all of those precautions by not having OTA's, minicamps and a light TC yet STILL got banged up. I want to prepare the best I can despite the risks. Players are going to get hurt. I'd rather them be fundamentally sound and a great tackling team.

I tend to agree that the Sirianni hate over the last few days is a little over the top, imo.

Agreed, but I think Steichen is acquitting himself nicely to be a lot closer to Shanahan than Sirianni.

Frank may not be interested.  And I wouldn't blame him one bit if he chose to just wait out the season and see what the offseason coaching carousel brings to his door.   He's also 62 years old, played in the NFL for forever and has been HC twice.  And, Carolina is likely on the hook to pay him next season as well, as long as he isn't employed elsewhere, and so he may choose to just walk away from the game at this point and enjoy his retirement.

I'd love Reich back here, but I'm not sure he's interested in returning.     Not sure who else would make sense to be brought in mid-stream either.
