I really love Smitty's comments the more I read them. He comes from a winning culture at Alabama, he knows what it takes, and he knows this team doesn't have it. It's hilarious some fans just keep pointing at the 11 wins when you have a dude on the team who basically just said those 11 wins don't mean jack ish.

AJ knows they don't have it this year too. I wonder if they're as annoyed with Hurts and his faux wisdom after the games as I am.

When I commented about DeVonta not being happy earlier I was thinking the same thing. The Bama mindset is just different. They EXPECT to win the SEC and the the Natty. They don't just want to win 10 games and make a New Years Day Bowl. Anything less than a Championship is a failure. That's embedded in them from day one on the Bama campus. People can hate Saban and Alabama all they want, but he's developed not only a culture of winning but a culture of domination and championships. Nothing else is good enough. When they win but don't play well, Saban is pissed. I get the same feeling from DeVonta now. Winning isn't enough.

I heard that BAL was playing C6/C2 and Humphrey was doing an excellent job in run support to contain the outside runs. I could see Ringo/Bradberry being able to do this… Slay, well he can play quarters.

Really?  McCaffrey was cooking the Ravens. Only positive thing in the game for the 9ers. Man avg'd 7+ yards per carry. Ravens were fortunate to get out to a lead so they abandoned running him.

If they knew the team didn't have it, they wouldn't be talking like they do have it.

Also, where did Jalen Hurts go to school?

The ravens were also playing a light box, so taking acceptable damage in the run game to limit the easy throws.

I'm trying to figure out the excellent run support comment when they gave up 7 per.

Can WFT's D still beat teams up?  I haven't paid much attention to them. Who did they let go on D once they figured out they weren't going anywhere?

Probably not bc they were terrible even before they traded away two of their best players oct 31.

But if Williams and Banks are out that may make it easier. Maybe they start Brissett and his mobility causes problems for their defense like Jackson did.

I’m not convinced Smith gets along all that well with Hurts

He got 39 on one play, so not all the plays were getting 7 per (Humphrey was helpful in this regard).

a high pick could provide elite backup QB play for a small price (3rd round rookie contract).

Hurts showed all the weaknesses that made him a 3rd rounder during his starts in his rookie year. And his first full year starting ("basically a rookie" year) was rocky. He played...exactly how he has played these last 4 weeks.

Hurts MVP season last year is for sure looking like an anomaly. But, at least we got to witness it. We have never experienced elite play from Barnett, or anything even close to it.

2 rounder. whatever. doesnt matter.

Still averaging 5ypc even if you take that out.

Why has everyone turned into a freakin' armchair psychologist -- reading faces, interpreting hidden meaning and inferring relationship issues. If the Eagles don't have 2 bad luck turnovers, and they had a lot of good luck earlier in the season, that resulted in immediate scores, they win walking away. The worst play of the game was Blankenship forgetting how to play safety. The D looked better. I liked seeing Smith at MLB -- Patricia knows how to make the LB position work. Ringo looks good. Ringo and Ricks or Ringo and Slay on the outside with Maddox returning would be better. Bradberry needs to sit. The main problem, IMHO, is that BJ still has nuts the size of birdseed and calls scared game. Admitting two whiffs on coordinators is probably too much to ask but it should happen. The team has enough talent. The scheme on both sides of the ball dropped a couple of levels since last year. Fix it coach, that's what you are paid for.

One more thought -- for those needing to call Hurts a POS, watch more football and get a better measuring stick for QB play.

Whenever I'm a big supporter of a draft pick, I also completely forget which round it was made in. The more I liked it, the more rounds I'm off by.

interesting. thanks for sharing.

I don't know about anybody else, but I haven't fully trusted the coaching staff since the first game. Seems like most people forgotten, but these clowns were giving Swift the penny treatment and had Gainwell as the main back. If Gainwell didn't get injured and swift didn't go off in the next few games, imagine where we would be now. This coaching staff don't how to fully utilize our players strengths.

I like that Patricia is putting athletes on the field. And putting them all over the field. Sydney Brown might suck at tackling and we will see if that ever improves, but he has the freakish athleticism to be a weapon, and Patricia had him in a variety of different positions. If he becomes a player, he will be someone defenses have to game plan for and they wont know where he is coming from.

It seems Patricia will try similar things with Nolan Smith. Moving him around the formation makes sense. Its what youre supposed to do with these freaks we have. Use their versatility to our advantage.

Good to see someone being imaginative with how we use players. We often lack that in coaches.

SF wasn’t able to run BAL out of their light box plus C2/C6 - and Purdy struggled passing with that many defenders covering in the short/immediate area. It’s a balance that are defense couldn’t maintain because we wanted to play soft on the outside but couldn’t tackle following the pitch/catch.

I don’t think Brown is near the requirements of a freakish athlete.

I think you must be nuts. His athleticism jumps out in every game.

Well he’s not earning the $250m so at least he’s giving something back.

Him bouncing off ball carriers feels like the primary thing that jumps out.

I get that. covered it in my post. But that doesnt take away from his ludicrous athleticism.

Hes not unathletic.  But running around out of control at full speed and out of position doesn’t make him a ludicrous athlete.  His objective measurables are good but nothing special.

You gotta pay attention to the range he shows in coverage. And the play where he missed the tackle on Kenneth Walker in the backfield, and then still ran him down to tackle him down field. Walker ran a 4.3 at the combine.
