I agree with @Iggles_Phan about the tush push being an overused issue for this offense.  When I say overused, I don't mean they use it on too many 3rd and 4th and 1's.  It's a play that should be used when they are in that situation.

It's not, however, a play that you should build your offense around.  Siri has literally owned up to calling an offense that is aspiring to short yardage situations.

If it was a 4th & 1 play that they used sparingly, I don't think people would be making such a stink over it either, nor would there be any conversation of it possibly being looked at by the competition committee. However, it's legitimately a part of their offense now. I feel like they call 1st and 2nd down just go to get to 3rd and short rather than trying to get a 1st down. Not that 3rd and short is a bad place to be in but it just seems like that's their goal.

What about turnovers, penalties, and situational awareness?

We are up a half a turnover per game and half a penalty per game over last season. Which do you think has been more impactful?

And despite that, we have been just as productive.

Gives you some optimism that a clean, dominant playoff game is out there somewhere.

As long as they can finish with TDs consistently they can survive a turnover or 2 against almost anyone. Thats basically how they played when they beat Miami, Dallas the first time, etc.

Id love them to be better, but Id be happy if they can get back in to that form this year. Theyd have a punchers chance at winning the super bowl that way. They were 10-1 that way, against a bunch of good teams. Then the wheels fell off.

I'd prefer we actually find a way to fix the turnovers. We had 19 giveaways during the regular season this year (10 fumbles and 9 interceptions) but 23 already this year (13 interceptions and 10 fumbles). I really believe turnover margin is something that reverts to the mean over time and isn't a sustainable method to win/lose. Now the bigger issue is we generated 27 turnovers last year versus only 16 this year, and that likely isn't going to change. But if we can just hold on to the football, we are basically unbeatable - we got hammered by SF when neither team turned it over, but we were -4 against the Jets, -2 at Dallas and -2 against Seattle. Hell, even -1 we can survive.

Basically, when we lose, we beat ourselves.

Yup. And the root cause is the lack of pass rush. Our d-line went from hero to zero in one year.

edit: and obviously Jalen turning the ball over too much.

The lack of pass rush has been the most concerning part, and I really don't get it other than the high number of snaps. Earlier in the year we were getting pressure but not finishing -- now, we aren't even getting pressure. That's why I don't see our turnover created numbers jumping. It means we have to stress hanging on to the ball.

I prefer that too, but thats been a consistent issue all year even when the offense was consistently scoring points. Its too late in the year to believe itll be fixed. Especially considering Hurts' regression. Ill just be happy for this year if he starts putting it in the end zone again.

If we do that AND stop turning it over, then we basically have last years team and are a legit super bowl contender, and by far the best team in the NFC.

Covey can do some of the stuff CMC does, about as well.  Outside running,  pass catching.  Not between the tackles running.

What the 9ers do,  quite often,  is get the ball outside, very quickly, to the fast and agile CMC.   If the Eagles were to try doing that,  Covey would get good results, as the 9ers do.

That's enough EMB for me today

the other 2 are questionable. Boston Scott is a definite completion if he does it right.

Wrong. Look how long that route takes to develop. Hurts is wrapped up by the time it did.

I get BG aging but HR and Sweat should nit drop off this much. Barrett was out last year as well so him being cut can't be why. Not having good LB and S like last year could have translated into more snaps. Still confusing with Carter being a force in the middle.

wrong. you are seeing it as if a QB shouldnt be able to throw with anticipation and timing. The ball CAN be thrown just before the receiving option makes his break so it arrives on time. Something you arent used to seeing with this QB, and for some reason dont expect him to be able to do. A real QB slides up and delivers that ball.

You don't agree Covey would be an MVP candidate if not for this coaching staff?

No one has dropped off a lot. They ALL inexplicably are not finishing with sacks. So people in here arent noticing a lot of good rushes from Graham, et. al.

I get your note but he made a catch for 7 yards and they never went to him again. He could be used more successfully but like wirh many things Nick amd BJ don't stick with what is working

I guess offenses adapted to quicker passes in the middle where they are weak as well so that keeps them from finishing.

It seems like we are allowing guys to escape the pocket and make plays a lot more this year; guys aren't disciplined in their rush lanes. Part of what worries me a little about Kyler Murray this week. Reddick and Sweat get near the QB a ton, never get them on the ground lately.

sometimes.

other times they are missing the tackle and letting the QB escape and make a big play. Theyve let a lot go that way too. So its not all just teams quick passing them to death.

Can't remember who Tweeted this, but 100% agree -- when Maddox is activated to the 53, Nick and Howie should send a message and cut Watkins.

They have never recovered from that 90+ snap game

Part of that is playing better QBs this year for sure, but I also think we just aren't rushing with enough discipline. Everyone is trying to race to the QB and lanes to escape are wide open. I wonder if that is one of the main differences between Carter and Hargrave, or maybe we miss Joseph eating up space.

He gives them nothing. 100 percent agree

You joke but Ben VanSumeren lead blocking for Covey would fix this offense faster than signing Zach Ertz

He's worse than nothing -- he's a net negative. It was a bad throw by Hurts on the deep ball in Seattle, but if he fights to come back for the ball at all, it's an incompletion or a PI flag. The guy shows zero effort (the screen against the Rams where he ran out of bounds) and hasn't since the fumble against Washington last year. Let Oz and Julio have his snaps - they may not add a ton, but they give effort (Oz for sure, and Julio is a pro and hall of famer). Better yet, go with more 12 and 13 personnel like we did against the Giants.

That reason alone will make this a game when it shouldn't be close. Murray isn't as good but I can see his scrambling ability being a huge thorn in the Eagles side.

I've been saying that everyday for over a year
