I’d like to see Bradberry in the slot for the balance of the year.  That’s where he should have been today.  He’s going to be a cap anchor next year either way…if he could actually do that while on the roster and serviceably filling the slot, that would be a win.

Slay is probably well equipped for the slot, but I’m going to go ahead and hot take it that there’s a 0% he’s enough of a team guy to make that transition.

100% chance he definitely is not, dude is all about himself.

Sadly both are back next year unless the eagles bite the bullet and post June 1st cut bradberry. Would be 4.75 mil dead money but you get 0 cap relief.

Id most likely be keeping Slay. Hes still useful. Find the least harmful way to get rid of Bradberry, and do it.

Least minimum harm is post June 1st trade. Saves 1.2 mil. But don’t see that as realistic option. It’s likely post June 1 cut and that’s $4.75 mil dead money but $0 cap saving

Thats minimal dead money, and I dont think you need cap relief. It actually sounds like a pretty good deal.

I dont think hes as bad as he looked this year. I think like most people on this team, he has been misused.

But fact remains, this CB duo has just become stale and theyre old and you have to start moving on.

Need to take stock of what they have and what they might have…

Ringo, Steen, Blankenship, Brown, Dean are all young players that have varying degrees of potential and certainty in becoming (or remaining) viable starters.  Steen has zero experience.  Ringo and Brown are huge question marks but very talented.  Blankenship IS a starter but has major coverage deficiencies to work on.  And Dean is both underwhelming and injury prone…but still deserves a shot.  There is a chance the Eagles will have to ask all of them to start next year.  But they do all have ability.

Then there is Jobe, Ricks, Gainwell, Bradberry, Maddox, Opeta, Driscoll.  These are guys who are around next year (on paper, at least) who can stick around for depth purposes, but really should never be projected into a starting lineup moving forward…but are very much in danger of finding themselves playing major snaps.

Next up are Slay, Kelce, Lane.  Kelce and Lane are playing at a far higher level then Slay, but they are also a much bigger risk to be snatched away abruptly…Kelce due to retirement, Lane due to injury or retirement.  Need to look beyond all 3 when hammering out the roster.

Last is Swift.  The lone UFA worth a damn.  (Not counting Kelce or Graham due to retirement and no disrespect to Cox).  Unpopular take, but I wouldn’t do it.  No one ever doesn’t regret a second RB contract.  Too much other work to do.  Find another talented 2nd chance RB.  There are just too many to pick from.

So they drew the afternoon 4:25pm slot next Sunday. Hopefully Dallas gets the early slot so they can 100% rest the starters for the game.

Edit: Disregard, DAL/WAS drew the afternoon slot as well.

If I’m Smitty, I’m flat-out refusing to block on screens after what happened today.

He likely won’t have to. This year anyway

They always seem to schedule all games with playoff implications for the late afternoon time slot in the final week of the season. It makes teams play their starters since the other outcomes aren't decided. Basically, it's going to be all crap at 1PM next Sunday.

Bradberry can't play in the slot. We've seen him in the slot and he's worse there than on the outside. I don't understand why this keeps coming up he's not a slot corner. He'd be BBQ chicken even worse than he is now.

One thing I know for sure from this season. Let's never break the blog into two parts during a season again. Fate delivered an ish show.

Really wasn't a blue print defenses been doing the same ish all year. I think that's when the coaches lost the team however in that stretch.

Happy New Year everyone.

Would be nice if half this team went in to the transfer portal.

Interesting story line setting up for the WC round if it holds. Currently:

6 LAR @ 3 DET

Stafford going back to where he built his career before leaving for a SB victory a few years ago with the Rams. Goff leading DET against his former team in a home WC game.

6 LAR (9-7) finish @ SF this week

7 GB (8-8) hosts CHI

SEA & NO are also 8-8 waiting to claim a WC spot should GB or LAR slip up. I haven’t looked at tie breaker but if SEA wins @ ARI this week and NO wins against ATL there is a possibility of LAR, GB, SEA, and NO all with an 8-8 record. That of course assumes GB wins and LAR lose.

The fact that may have been Kelce, Cox, and Graham’s final home game makes that one of the worst regular season losses in a long time, if not ever.

I just don't understand how you call a timeout before a 3rd and long and the best play you can come up with is a screen pass to your RB2, who's longest play of the year is 19 yards.

This play makes me so furious. I think it's safe to say I've been the loudest against the Eagles screen game going back to last year and have been saying over and over again that it's going to get DeVonta Smith hurt. I hope to never see him put in that situation again.

I really think the locker room is gone. I think there's a big disconnect in attitudes between the vets and the young SEC guys on the team who are going to be the new nucleus of the roster for years to come.

Happy New Year, all.

James Conner celebrated by dragging three Eagles into the New Year with him.
