Why even post this?  The head coach needs to get fired because the OT holds somebody to put the offense in 1st and 20, then the $255M QB thinks he can pick up 20 yards by being a RB instead of a QB?

Sirianni probably called timeout to ask Hurts to throw the football and pick up some yards instead of sliding down and losing 6 yards.  The play got Elliott an easier FG and put the team ahead.  If the defense was any good at all, that would have been the winning FG.

But sure — the head coach held a guy to back the team up 10 yards, then rolled right and slid down to lose another 6 yards.  That damn coach.

You could tell AJ Brown was pissed about the call when walking away from the huddle. This was a called QB run all the way. Hurts isn't changing to that play there in this situation. That came from Siri getting conservative for whatever reason.

For me Howie is the one whose job should he on the line.

The Eagles could have won this game even with the defense being laughable.  The sequnce after the onsides kick was awful.  It didn't cost us the game, but it didn't give is the best chance to win.  Therefore, I am not on the Fire Siri boat.

Consider our back 7 yesterday: 1 undrafted rookie, 1 4th round rookie, 1 3rd round rookie, 1 undrafted 2nd year player, 1 returning from a long injury recovery who likely should not be playing yet, and linebackers who are all fringe roster players right now.  So more than half the defense are bench players at best, with unemployment a close 2nd.

Howie and the team chose the wrong guys to resign or give more money (Slay more $ and Bradberry).  Bradberry's $$ alone would have covered Edwards and White and our front 7 would have been much better.  Losing both safeties and filling them with fringe talent killed us.  Choosing aging CBs over younger, less expensive,  better players is all on the GM.

Does it matter if the next DC is brought in and is forced to do the same thing?

One thing I know for sure from this season. Let's never break the blog into two parts during a season again. Fate delivered an ish show.

If I recall correctly the blog was split last season due to performance issues with the thread being so large.

I really hope this was a wake up call that LBs are important and need to invest more at that position.

I also really miss an aggressive, smothering defensive philosophy. I feel like for years now the defensive philosophies we’ve hired have been, keep everything in front of you and wait to see if the offense makes a mistake. I can’t stand it.

As bad as the defense was, we didn't lose because of the defense. Nick and Brian should just resign after the play calling following the onside kick. The offensive play calling has been really bad all year but that sequence was just shameful. Run the ball on the first play to ensure you get the clock rolling ... good ... but following that they need to be aggressive and make Arizona pay for the onside kick.

Yeah it's been this way for years now. Philosophy: Invest in offense for big play high scoring. Invest in DL to pass rush when in the lead. Bend but don't break.

Problem is obvious when the offense isn't getting out to big leads and the DL isn't getting home. Hate the passive approach on D.

It's the coaching.

I think your are wrong. The defense lost the game.  Arizona held the ball for 40 minutes, scored 28 in the 2nd half, and there was never a doubt AZ would score at will.  Eagles offense had the ball for 2 minutes/ 1 possession in the 2nd qtr and scored a TD.   All the defense had to do was make one stop in the 2nd half and they couldn't.   To a 3 win team!  A 3 win team holds the ball for 66% of the game, runs for 200 yards, allows 2nd string receivers to be wide open the entire game, scores TDs and a 2 point conversion on 4 consecutive drives.

Well, I picked a good weekend to cut the cable...

And the talent, or lack thereof.

Yep. You can’t absolve any part of this. Every level has sucked. What did Howie do this offseason that was particularly good other than take advantage of Carter being radioactive to other teams? Clearly this is a poorly coached team. But those guys aren’t making the players drop passes, jump offsides or run slowly off the field, miss tackles, blow coverages.

It's a total system failure.

F yeah it's serious.

There is only 2 ways Nick gets fired

1- He lost complete control over this team. The team lost all faith in Nick, his process and no possibility of getting it back

2- The Dougie P effect- FO gives Nick the facts that his staffs lack of success and ownership will not be accepted. Nick will be forced to let BJ and Patricia go and FO will help select a new staff. Nick does not take this well and refuses.

Nick seams like a "yes" sir kind of guy so I don't see option 2 playing a role.

Lost to Seattle and a SB in similar fashion

How bout those Eagles?

This might be far fetched but it's had me thinking. The Eagles used to avoid SEC players and the obvious top caliber players in the draft. It hasn't been until recent that they started to really dive in to the top dogs in the SEC. The current roster has 6 Alabama players, 7 if you count Jalen Hurts. They have 6 UGA players. Nearly 25% of the roster has played for Nick Saban or Kirby Smart. They have played for arguably one of, it not the best coach in college football of all time and a guy sniffing his heels in Smart. It's safe to say their coaching styles and approach to the game is the complete opposite of Sirianni.

Are these guys, who are used to the absolute best coaching college football can get you, starting to see through Nick Sirianni and his circus routine? Are they buying it and saying OK, I'm all in with this cheerleader?

I just keep going back to DeVonta Smith and how IMO, his attitude has just completely soured. He seems fed up with this coaching staff. He's gotta be thinking why am I here? Why should I be running pop warner routes and blocking on screens? Do I want to stay here or should I sign somewhere else in a few years/demand a trade to a team that uses me right?

Again, just spit balling here and thinking about the state of this team. Something is off. I think the coaches have lost the locker room. The vets are doing everything they can to sound positive but their words have never sounded emptier and almost embarrassing at this point. You can hear a clear difference in message between the vets and the young guys. The vets are also on their way out the door so this new young nucleus is going to be the louder voice in the locker room. I just don't think they buy in.

I think Lurie and Howie need to move on from this coaching staff. Their message is stale. Their schemes don't work and they have no idea how to get the best out of these players.
