It wasn't just the blitz it's how far he had to come from. Even if he was completely unblocked he wouldn't have reached the QB before the pass was thrown. Amateur hour.

Honestly... I'm not so sure about Reich either.

Me either.  He was definitely burnt out in Carolina but I get the feeling the new owner is a real jack ass.  Reich definitely would bring a different element to the passing game.  There are 2 big issues on offense for me.  The over reliance on limited play calls.  Their inability to have a solution to a blitz.  Their is also an issue executing things they do repeatedly call like WR screens.  I think part of this might be a combination of Hurts, Sirianni and Johnson.  Reich would at least add a different voice that would register with Sirianni.

My 12 year old son would be an improvement over Johnson on playcalling, so I would have zero issue bringing Reich in.

I think DeVonta Smith is likely to miss against the Giants, so the Eagles should lean more on the running game.  As far as the playoffs go, that trend needs to continue.  The Eagles identity offensively should be built around their OL, mobile QB, and RBs.  Run a complementary offense and use the running game to set up the pass.  The problem is, the Eagles see their offensive identity as Hurts, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith -- and the running game is an afterthought.  A direct result is the defense spending too much time and too many snaps on the field.  The old TOP argument.

Defensively, I think the Eagles need to pull out some tendency busters in the playoffs, especially on crucial 3rd downs.  They simply cannot defend the pass and they should move toward a more aggressive defensive approach to get some more turnovers.  The tough part is they don't really have the athletes for this.

They should sit of all of their starters.

Busts in the 3rd is a wild concept.

Dean when healthy has been darn and away our best linebacker.

I'm not ready to call Dean a bust yet but it is concerning that we will be going into his 3rd year here and he's barely played. I feel like we still don't know much about him as a player and I'm not sure you can rely on him to be LB #1 next year.

Burned out or not doesn't seem like his concepts from almost 6 years ago yielded good results. League has already caught up to that just like they caught up to what Siri and the Eagles were doing last year.

I'm so tired hearing about Hurts' 40 TDs. As a team, the Eagles rank 15th in total TDs. That is the very definition of mediocre. They are 18th in passing TDs.

How many of Hurts' 40 TDs are beyond replacement value by an average NFL QB (passing) or even by a RB (rushing)?

Bro Hurts ain’t the problem the guy had another 3 tds

You see the defense? See that’s what lost the game. I

I think he is too small and injury prone.

Two things can be true at the same time.

The questions need to be directed toward the $255M QB who decided to run QB draw on both first and second down, leaving them in 3rd and 20.

Right.  Because those weren’t called plays?  lol

Maybe you’re right, Hurts should just start running his own plays - would likely have much better results.

Never liked the total TDs stat. Now with Hurts getting easy goal line TDs from the sneak it shouldn't be mixed with passing TDs IMO

OK, well, some thoughts after yet another catastrophe and looking forward on where this team needs to head in the offseason.

1. I've accepted it -- we're losing at Tampa Bay in the Wild Card round. I'd almost rather that happen then win, see LA beat Detroit (Stafford revenge game), and then get smoked in Dallas while they finally get back to an NFCCG. Just end the pain.

2. I don't think Sirianni will be fired, but it's not a 100% lock he is back. I will say this -- amazingly enough, I don't think the team has quit. You still see frustration, anger and desire from the team. They haven't quit, but the are realizing the coaches don't have any answers. The play calling on the 1st and 20 sequence...that was pathetic. I'd rather stop the clock with incompletions so we'd get the ball back with more time. I can see calling the QB power on 1st down...OK. But on 2nd and 16, it's time to throw the ball and try to win the game. Give AJ, Smith or Goedert a chance FFS. Once we kicked the FG, I knew we were done.

2a. I feel like the coaching staff is chasing ghosts. Against the Jets, they throw it and Hurts gets picked to let the Jets win the game. So now they go super conservative. But...the defense held Zach Wilson (not a challenge) all day. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are marching up and down the field. Just no ability to adapt to the situation.

3. We played the Cardinals. We won the turnover battle (until the hail mary), had a defensive score, and the offense played a B game (scored on 4 of 6 drives before the last one). And we still lost. That's amazing.

4. I seriously have no idea what we are doing defensively. None. Reddick and Graham dropping into coverage over and over again. Same single high look all day. It wasn't that coverage guys were getting beat -- they had no chance. We can talk all day long about not having the personnel, and we don't at LB, but this defense should be middle of the pack at worst.

5. The sad part -- this team is capable of beating anyone. They are that talented. Hurts played a good game, Swift/AJ/Smith all over 1,000 yards. The inability to hold leads has been stunning. But, if this team went to Dallas and won, I wouldn't be surprised. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they lost by 2 TDs to Tampa Bay.

6. Cunningham needs to come back yesterday.

7. Screw resting the starters in week 18 -- put them out there and try to figure crap out.

Better question is when did Nikobe Dean start playing better than Cunningham at any point in time this season? Cunningham hasn’t been great but he’s been average when healthy. Dean was better than morrow but not Cunningham. I don’t like pff usually and they aren’t the end all he all but Cunningham had 71 grade and Dean is down at 61. Seems about right

That was the Eagles defense worst game in terms of success rate since 2006, against the Colts apparently.  Manning and Harrison?   This game, Murray and Gaylord Dortsch, trash

Wasn’t Patricia helping out on the offense side of the ball in NE, he’s awful btw, if you have to take someone from there give Mayo a shot, Howie and Jeff allegedly liked him a few years ago when he interviewed here, make him the DC.

If not they have to get a Flores type that isn’t tied to one scheme and will do the best he can with no talent at LB since Howie refuses to put talent at that position.

That's fair to say right now for sure. He'll be here next season so hopefully he turns it around. But I don't think that should preclude the Eagles from trying to address the position further. Hopefully they agree but I worry they'll see him as the solution to LB issues and just do what they have done in the past without really upgrading there.

Should’ve never demoted desai knowing Patricia was inept when he didn’t have belichick saving his ass. I’m not a desai is a world beater nor do i think he’s going to be a good DC at any point in time. But i already knew Patricia sucked. At least desai was somewhat inexperienced at the DC and you could’ve possibly hoped he learned some sort of lessons after getting smashed by 3 top 5 dvoa offenses and applied it going forward and grown from it. Kind of like you saw with his second half adjustments before the niners game. Even Dallas game he made better adjustments and they weren’t completely useless. Patricia is what he is. He’s not going to be magically good when without belichick he’s regressed and got worse and worse.

I'm not sure how much credibility Brian Baldinger has, or how much stock to put into this, but on his podcast with Anthony Gargano he said he's heard Jordan Davis has been getting fined weekly for being overweight.
