On Pat McAfee show, re-airing now, they had Chuck Pagano break down a few of our defensive plays vs. Arizona .....yikes.  Their take overall is that the calls werent bad but the players had no idea what they were doing.  They illustrated that pretty well

Sigh, how good we had it. From the player, the leadership, the DC who knew how to use him.

That's what this team is really missing... a guy who has the ear of the defense AND is a playmaker.   This defense has no playmakers.  Last year, Reddick was a playmaker.  This year, he's been almost completely neutralized.   And this back 7...  just completely devoid of playmaking ability.   (Looking at you, Darius.).

Jeffery letting him go to Denver was utter BS. Yeah, he may have been declining but I still remember where I was and still remember thinking what a BS move. I don't care what Andy or Howie or anyone else said should happen....he never should have worn any other uniform.

Lurie's mistake was letting Joe Banner handle that negotiation.

Or, they have Penny 100% healthy for the playoffs.

Let's see if they activate him and PLAY him this week and maybe there is something to this.  Weird AF but perhaps.

Frankly think the cardinals game is more embarrassing for the defense then any game from weeks 12-14. Buffalo, niners and Dallas all were top dvoa offenses. So against a poorly coached and lack of personnel type defense it didn’t surprise me that they got lit up. However the cardinals were without their best pass catcher in Hollywood brown and the cardinals offense steamrolled them.

This was the Cardinals Super Bowl.   Gannon and everything.  And the Cardinals won a very close game.   Cards score a TD in the last minute and the Eagles had a Hail Mary there after that that failed.

If Maddox doesn't fall down,  and that's not a 36 yard pass,  but just a 10 yard pass,  maybe the Eagles stop the Cards and win.

I wouldn't be looking at all at THIS week.   Maybe they think that Penny needs snaps now,  but they might not think that at all.

This game, this week, isn't important.  The Eagles have secured the wild card game against the South.  They should be resting,  and giving a lot of snaps to young players who aren't tired.  Penny isn't a young player who needs to be better.   The Eagles could benefit from Penny in the playoffs,  running at 21.44 mph,  which he did last year with the Seahawks.

Mims the RT from Georgia declared. What do you think of him?

Love him. He’s raw but very athletic. He needs a year of coaching but he’s a perfect fit. There are several guys who’ll be drafted ahead of him but he’ll end up being as good or better than any of them.

This is what happens when you either ignore positions or are just poor at filling them in the draft or FA. Telling stat that 30 of the 53 active roster players weren't drafted by the Eagles. That says a lot about their drafting and player development.

No kidding...those guys are horrible. They could have at least picked Desmond Ridder, Sam Howell, and Bryce Young.

Yeah but but he hasnt touched the football. He needs live game reps?!?!  Can't just give him the ball in the playoff game and hope he has magic?

Oh please. 450 yards of offense, Time of possession almost 40 minutes. 220 yards rushing. We got crushed.

One thing I have been thinking about during the dark ages (aka the last month).  Idk if the change to Patricia helped us or hurt us as a defense.  The plays have been largely similar with an odd press coverage and totally ineffective blitz mixed in.

To me it seems like the players don't even know their responsibilities.  Like they are pointing this way and that way as the ball is being snapped.  Communication has been an issue.

Without Cunningham,  the second level of the defense has been horrible.  Tough cover for LB one on one with a RB or WR but we need someone who can be close enough and able to make a tackle.  Who the hell is that?  Idk if more Smith or Vansumeren would help but at least they have the physical ability.  Morrow didn't look as bad with Cunningham so maybe there is hope

Hurt, and I don't even think its much of a debate. Eagles played terrible offenses for 3 straight weeks and made them look like juggernauts. Hasson Reddick has been dropping into coverage at a higher clip than any point during the season. We have had no 2nd half adjustments at all, which Desai at least did on occasion. Patricia barely blitzes and when he does, Reddick is dropping into coverage on them just to send Byard or Roby.

That's what I was getting to in my last post.  Seems like they are trying communicate better before the snap but at the same time over thinking and not doing their jobs.  Run D is a matter of gap responsibility and getting to the ball.  Can't do that if you don't what your responsibility is in the defense and thus the ability to play fast.

The issues from trading up for Wentz, the failure of Reagor and the GMs mindset of trading picks at the trade deadline are writ large.   You can't acquire depth when the picks are with other teams, so you go shopping with 1 year deals to fill the gaps

Idk, but I think we need to stop with this Penny BS. They are not saving him for the playoffs or some secret plan.
They’re stubborn and want to play it their way with the RPO. Maybe Jalen can’t play it any other way?!
I just don’t get why he cannot get under center and allow the offense to run some conventional running plays.

This is why they miss Dean. At the very least he had them lining up correctly. New green dot guy every week it seems.

Sure.  Put Reddick back in coverage, like the Cardinals did at the beginning of his career that was so successful that he was labelled a bust.   Brilliant move.

They showed the very first play of the game. Avonte bites on the play fake, massively, and let's his man run right by him.

Next play they showed was a 3rd and 6, Maddox and Morrow (who was looking back at one of the safeties at the snap, presumably trying to figure out what the hell he was supposed to do) both covering the man in motion and leaving the guy Maddox was covering presnap wide open for a first down.

Overall I think there are too many moving parts. Maddox shouldnt have been thrust right back into the lineup.  Morrow never knows what he's doing.  Patricia is running Desai's scheme but it's too fresh for both the coaches and players.

I'm a big believer in consistency on defense and we've had the total opposite.   Hence why I wouldn't rest anyone this week. They need reps, beyond the playoff seeding implications

That's ideal for this team, honestly.
