FWIW…

Dan Marino was the original, gold standard perfectly polished *high IQ* passer.  And the guy was/is a complete meatheaded moron.

Ryan Fitzpatrick graduated from Harvard (overrated accomplishment, especially for a football player, but I digress), scored a perfect or near perfect wonderlic…probably the smartest guy on every team he was part of.  And he was a notoriously streaky, emotional, gunslinging "screw it someone will run under it” kind of QB.

It’s not intelligence.  But QB processing defenses, reads, quickly targeting the right guy….it has nothing to do with intelligence.  With all the millions of dollars in scouting…for the most important trait for the most important position…no one has figured out an objective off the field test to approximate this.  Just have to rely on film and the word of college coaches.

With special forces and surgeons are training on VR, the NFL is really lagging behind.  That is a way to approximate processing reads, targets…and to try to objectively evaluate it in prospects.  I’m really surprised the NFL isn’t trying to innovate in that space.

Is Dak a success story?

Not until he wins it all, and if he doesn't he is just another long line of failed QBs at Dallas since Troy and Roger no matter that stats.

How did we beat Dallas once, the Dolphins, the Chiefs and the Bills?? Seem like there’s no way that happened this season.  So bizarre.

Dallas for whatever reason couldn't score from the 6 with 00:27 left..so they lost it more than the eagles won it.

Dolphins the defense and a surprisingly good game, but I don't remember much about the offense.

Chiefs I didn't watch.

Bills let the eagles hang around and made some critical gaffes at end like not connecting on a wide open, OT winning td pass.

Our crap ass screen game. It’s always been terrible but the TE screens to Goedert would pick up nice chunks. I can’t remember the last time we tried it.

Too soon, man. 😭

Dak stepped out of bounds, Miami’s offensive line was hurt and they got the benefit of some calls, MVS dropped a wide open TD, and Josh Allen missed Gabe Davis for a TD in overtime.

Most of those opportunities came up because we literally couldn't manufacture any TOP when the offense had the chance to seal the game. Usually ran some vanilla, ultra conservative BS and then punted the ball away.

Howie is taking heat for his off-season this year and rightfully so, but the fact that this team got to two Super Bowls with two total dolts as head coaches is a testament to incredible roster construction at times. Looking at Doug’s Jags collapse this year and post 2017 and Sirianni looking like he couldn’t tell his head from his ass this season, man.

And their ability to build a good staff.

Imagine if they get over the insecurity and actually hire a smart coach instead of puppets and yes men.  But I don’t expect that ever after the Chip ordeal.

Good excuse for me to cancel Peacock.

Right?   It’s amazing how I’m 6 short weeks we went from sb favorite to peacock wildcard underdogs (are we underdogs because I feel like we should be getting like  7 points) and it isn’t even because of a catastrophic injury to a key player.  It’s because the coaches were exposed as frauds.   Ugh.

Err.  Pederson is a good coach.  That Super Bowl team was riddled with injuries and Doug was able to get Foles to  provide two of the best performances of his entire career (NFCCG & Super Bowl)

For a Dallas fan, he’s not a success story until he wins it all.

For an outsider evaluating how he is as a QB…he doesn’t necessarily need to win at all, but he needs to do better more consistently.  Definitely needs to win more playoff games.  And probably needs to beat SF this year.

I don’t think Marino was a great processor with a high IQ.  He had the prototypical QB build, the fastest release ever, and an all-time great head coach who perpetually built the roster around the offense Marino wanted to run.

Agreed.

None of this has to do with the players we were 10-1, it’s coaching. I can’t remember the last time aj brown had a td he is a top 3-4 wr in the entire league. The coaches scheme and game plan are trash and even the worst opposing coaches can easily expose it.

Why do people keep bringing up that he stepped out of bounds as the reason they lost? Didn't they have the ball from the 6 with :27 left?

At least have the decency to have the game next Saturday so I can drink away this season properly and nurse my hangover on Sunday.

I brought this up a couple weeks ago. You look at the passing numbers it’s pretty close to Dak’s numbers last year. Only difference if Dak missed a couple games so his would’ve likely been really close to hurts. But the way hurts has played has been similar to Dak in 2022. Moments and flashes of greatness. And then inconsistencies and turnovers.

Yes...pretty dang close comparison. I didn't see every Hurts pick this year but I am assuming a few were tipped passes, which is still on the QB but in some cases it's not always on the QB...Iknow there were 3 or 4 last year for Dak that were on the receivers. Kind of like when DG slipped down a couple of weeks ago...

Hurts is still a good QB, just needs the right QB coach/OC/Offiensive scheme IMO. Some guys are plug and play, your prototype pro QBs, others need to have a system tailored to their strengths until they round out, again, just an opinion.

Perhaps, but he knew how to take care of the hands that took care of him.

What 2017, and 2022 proved, is that Howie can make a series of good FA signings and trades, provided he has a QB on their rookie deal who follow things up with near MVP seasons. What Howie has never shown is sustainability, or the ability to build a team around a QB on the dreaded "2nd contract".

Harbaugh discussion

Harbaugh could be suspended for the signal scandal the day the signs a contract to an nfl team anyway. The league has made up rules and suspended for pointless crap before. Wouldn't surprise me if they suspend him for trying to avoid the college penalties

They would have been able to kick a FG and send it to OT if he didn’t step out of bounds on the earlier two point conversion play.

To add to this, both teams had very good OCs who were lost after year 2, exposing the HC as more of a figurehead who wasn't near as good as we had hoped.

What pisses me off is that our quality coordinators always end up getting poached and we're stuck with garbage inside hires that no one wants

Don't think that's something we'll need to worry about this season though

Outside of Stoutland and maybe Clay all of these need to be shown the door once we're eliminated
