Philadelphia Eagles 2024 opponents | PhillyVoice

Top is home, bottom is away

So the NFCE plays the NFCS and AFCN...DAL gets @SF, DET, and HOU for their remaining three opponents...I read earlier this year DAL hasn't had an Int'l game in 6 years, my guess is that when they do get their next Int'l game it will be in Mexico City...

Was reported yesterday no fracture, at least that's what I saw.

Please don’t make me calculate it right now.  Need to wash the stench off Sundays game first.

Had a meeting in an otherwise packed day end early so I took a REALLY quick swag at it.

Disclaimers:

1) Howie has changed his structuring a bit making it a bit more tricky to find which contracts are truly the void ones.  So I had to go in one by one for the top 7/8ths of the roster.  I'm telling you this in case I missed someone but also so you appreciate I had to put some f'n work into it, you ingrates.

2) Cox and Kelce, assuming both are gone, will likely be post June 1st cuts, so the dead cap will be lower going into the year. This list simply shows the total dead cap incurred for 2024

3) Finally, I had to use both sportrac and overthecap.  Overthecap made it easier to determine the void contracts, but sportrac has a better list of the known dead cap (Only Barnett and Johnson were listed on OTC).  And since we have seen discrepancies before (Barnett is listed as $3,990,765 on spotrac), that may impact the #s as well.

So yeah, the word of the day is swag with this list:

Cox $14,300,000
Kelce $24,866,000
Brandon Graham $13,216,000
Marcus Mariota $767,000
Derek Barnett $4,004,766
Kyron Johnson $104,964
Joseph Ngata $20,000
Ben VanSumeren $20,000
Tristin McCollum $12,500
Mekhi Garner $11,666
Ty Zentner $10,000
Jadon Haselwood $8,334
Trevor Reid $6,667
Brady Russel $5,334
Noah Elliss $3,334
Josh Sills $3,334
Total $57,359,899

The NFC-S is about as bad as it gets, but they still have a division winner with a winning record.  This happens every once in awhile, I think the moaners should just deal with it.

The last round of moaning was weaponized by the NFL to go to a 14-team playoff format, which honestly is garbage most years unless you are making money off it.

I was thinking the same about the NFCS. The NFCE was pretty solid last year sending three teams to the playoffs. Back in the day when the NFCE was a grinder for so many years, I could see three double digit win teams coming out of the NFCE with the 17 game schedule, the conference was that strong.

It would suck to be a double digit win team to have to go play the NFCS champion honestly, PHI should get a home game this week.

Just like in college football it isn't always beneficial to be in a dominant conference, there are drawbacks. You play a tougher schedule but the reward isn't equal.

How about this, keep the conferences the way they are, play a complete conference round robin which is 13 games, then add 4 out of conference opponents...take the top 6 from each conference, give a bye to the two top teams like it used to be done...

Kelce gotta come back right? That's if he retires or is that already on the books? Damn...

Be interesting to see what happens with Kelce. I have a feeling he'll be back

Was Fred Johnson playing LG the second half of last game?

Fred Johnson has a 2023 PFF of 75.0  on the year.   Not sure when or where he played,  but maybe RT for Lane in the last game.   Driscoll played,  I think maybe Sua Opeta played LG.  So,  maybe,  2nd half was, left to right,  Mailata, Opeta, Landon, Driscoll, Fred Johnson. Maybe.

He was just recently 77.3% and 3 TD passes against the Cardinals.

What a much easier looking schedule than this year. If that Jags game is in London, I'm definitely going.

You rooted for dallas. Never let that be forgotten

Amen.

I said the same thing a couple weeks ago when you play like 9 out of first 11 games down to the wire then have the back to back high energy and highly emotional games with KC and buffalo then Sf then Dallas (really 4 back to back to back to back if you don’t have the bye week sandwiched) you are eventually going to begin to run on fumes. No excuse for them to lose to the Seahawks with a backup, cardinals and giants but I’ve thought when watching them they look like they are running on fumes. Besides having poor coaching and bad personnel on defense they just look like they have nothing left in the tank

A player retiring is treated as, from a cap perspective, the same as a cut.  What is likely to happen is (assuming he and cox are gone), kelce won't officially retire until after June 1st.  Also, if Cox is gone, they will likely cut him right away to allow him to find another team, but then designate the cut as post June 1st.  So from the time of the cut until June 1st designation, they will have to carry the entire $14.3 million dollar hit, and then it drops down to $4.2 million for 2024.

2024 dead cap assuming the two post June 1sts stated above looks like this:

Cox $4,200,000 $1,500,000
Kelce
$10,828,000
$1,500,000
Brandon Graham $13,216,000
Marcus Mariota $767,000
Derek Barnett $4,004,766
Kyron Johnson $104,964
Joseph Ngata $20,000
Ben VanSumeren $20,000
Tristin McCollum $12,500
Mekhi Garner $11,666
Ty Zentner $10,000
Jadon Haselwood $8,334
Trevor Reid $6,667
Brady Russel $5,334
Noah Elliss $3,334
Josh Sills $3,334
Total $33,221,899

The "savings" you will see on the right is the minimal base salary assigned so they can carry the player (in this case Kelce) to June 1st with a lower hit.  (I can go through the strategy doing it that way vs a flat out $0 void year as well)

2025 dead cap hits for Kelce and Cox would then be:

Cox $10,100,000
Kelce $14,038,000

boys get to play at santa clara again in '24 season..

hopefully they're not in santa clara if niners make it to NFCCG

Looks like a cake walk schedule as of now.   But too early to tell.

Playing possum.

Rope a dope.

Appear weak when you are strong - art of war

Things like that.  Those 3 things aren't identical,  but they're similar.

Intentionally not trying as hard as possible at all times.

Also similar - running a marathon,  playing chess, not checkers.

I've been saying something similar to that for a long time.

Sleepwalk through the entirety of the regular season,  using only the 5 best skill position players,  who are good enough to get enough wins to make the playoffs.  And then when the playoffs come,  unveil the fresh and new which gets you over the top.   Most teams can't do that,  but the Eagles can.    Let's see if it works.    The Eagles have been letting a lot of talent sit,  now they use it.   Maybe they do this, maybe they don't,   but all season it looked like they were only using part of an offense.   I've been talking all year like this.

The Eagles should beat the Bucs.   They'll have to break out of the slump to do that,  but they're the better team.   The 9ers,  with a QB,  will be a challenge, the Eagles did not look good against the 9ers earlier in the season.   If the Eagles did take action and figure out a way to beat the 9ers,  the toughest team,  a team the Eagles knew they'd be facing,  knew they'd have to beat,  they've got a good shot to beat the 9ers.

I think this is about salvaging some self respect and winning a playoff game.  They're not likely to go into DAL or SF and win in the Divisional Round, but Tampa is not a particularly difficult opponent.  The Eagles won 25-11 in Tampa in Week 3 and I don't see that the Bucs have made any significant improvement since then.

I see the Eagles winning this game.  How competitive they can be the following week is yet to be determined.

This is something I've said a number of times.   Because of the shittiness of the Philly fans,  it's better not to have the home field disadvantage.

Just now, Sack that QB said:

I think he’s a good coach and should quickly find a new HC job somewhere else. I think he clashed with the FO since he seemed pissed about the AJ Brown trade and probably feels they are running things into the ground. Hope he doesn’t go to Washington.
