This is such a crap quote by Schefter just carrying water for the team. People aren’t necessarily upset about the losses or them not playing at the same level as they were last year. People are upset about how the losses looked, being non competitive against SF and Dallas, the defense turning into the worst defense in the league the past six games, losing to two of the worst teams in the league in NYG and AZ, and completely falling off a cliff. Losses happen and it’s a part of the game. They were never going to go 16-1. But this team has turned into a bottom three team in the league over the past month and a half while remaining relatively healthy.

This quote seems like it was based on looking at the final record rather than watching any of the games.

Correct.

On the surface, 11-6 is about where a lot of us thought this team would end up this year before the season began.   However, there's a lot of context for how that 11-6 happened.  And its almost all bad.

Yes, exactly everything you said.

Schefter, F you.  We were blown out by the 6 win Giants and were vastly outclassed by the 4 win Cardinals.  Good opponents exposed our bad schemes and personnel deficiencies, and now it's blatantly obvious.  We could squeak by the Bucs because they're not that good, too.  If we do, I expected to be blown out by Dallas the following week.

Expectations were high because the talent and deservedly so. Coaches failed and players quit

I said 10-7 and I feel like I was more spot on because of the way it went down

They’re gonna wind up bringing back Justin Fields. And in a year they’re gonna have to pay him something like $40-$50 million or he’s not gonna be good enough but they’re not gonna be bad enough to be picking at 1 to get the quarterback they want. and then they’ll have to give up a crap load of picks they got from trading out of 1 this year.

I figured they'd give him another year.

Bears have lots of holes in their roster.  I'd absolutely trade the pick and stick with Fields for another season.

I don’t even care about the record or the expectations anymore. I’m tired of stupid, sloppy football for 18 weeks straight that somehow keeps getting worse

A source said they expected Martindale to resign following Monday's incident. The Giants had still not heard from Martindale as of Tuesday evening. He returned to his home in Sarasota, Florida, on Tuesday afternoon.

If they come out with no plan against the blitz, QB draws, bubble screens, and dropping Reddick into coverage again I'm going to be rooting for them to get blown out purely out of spite. I just have no tolerance for their BS anymore. I'll be rooting for total humiliation to hopefully get everyone canned.

The more I've thought about this season as a whole, it really has been one of the most unenjoyable that I can remember.

As you said, they simply have not been good at any point this year, regardless of the W-L.

Then you think about all the crappy weather games.

The awful schedule. Absurd number of prime time, MNF, etc.

Then I take my son to his first ever game (he really started liking the Eagles this year) and they lost in humiliating fashion to AZ. I'll never forget the look on his face at the end of that game.

This years team has taken more out of me as a fan than any season I can remember.

I'm done with them. I do not want them to win this week. And not really sure if I ever bring myself to invest the same again.

I doubt there's a change in anything. They've had the whole season to. What makes you think they finally do it now?

I look at it this way, Justin Fields if you keep him this year and he plays well (This isn’t even he plays like at a level Jalen hurts did in 2022), just plays well you’re gonna have to pay him like $45 million. As that’s what Daniel Jones got and he only played well for one year. And that’s like one of the better scenarios.

so if Justin Fields is the same player he’s been or is just not good, you’re likely going to have to give up all those pics you’ve got trading number one and some more to move back up to get the quarterback in 2025.

I much rather take the chance that Caleb Williams winds up being a really good player at 1/4 of the cost. After three years, Justin Fields has really been the same player throughout his career. He still doesn’t complete a high percentage of his passes. He misses weeks of the season because he can’t stay healthy. And I don’t think you’ve seen a big enough jump for to pass up the potential of Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams might be a bust. But Caleb Williams is also imo is a way better prospects than what Justin Fields was when he came out. I think Caleb Williams potential ceiling is significantly higher than Justin Field. And I don’t think he’s gonna have the durability concern Justin Fields has.

I'm supposed to fly into Chicago on Friday.  And it's supposed to snow, something like 5-8".  What are the chances that I actually get into Chicago?

Depends where you are flying to\from and the airline.  When I was going DIA -> ORD I was a lot more successful than PHL -> ORD.  That's because I was going hub to hub and they prioritize those flights.

Like others have said, the quote isn’t quite true.

Would some fans have been disappointed had they not made it back to the Super Bowl? Of course, fans want their team to win and perform based on the talent and expectations.

But the way the season ended - virtual collapse - makes it so much worse.  No way would there have been any sort of the current fan meltdown had the team gone 11-6, played hard, good football and lost sometime during the playoffs vs how it went down this season.  We went from a top team in the NFL - to performing among the worst - within a 6 game stretch at the very end of the season.  That’s the issue.

That said, if this team somehow turns it around and makes a strong playoff run, it could likely lessen the blow to a lot of fans - giving them hope that this thing can come back together - if not this season - next season.

 My 2 cents.

Listening to Tim McManus it sounds like he has a pretty good hunch that Jason Kelce is retiring at the end of this year. I already kind of thought that. But listening to the Philly special podcast with him and sheil, I think he has a small inkling of what’s coming.

They'll trade Fields; he simply hasn't been good enough.  It's just a matter of whether they can find a sucker interested in buying.
